Full Moon in Libra ~ April 6, 2012

Scales via Tattoo Donkey

Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what may have been initiated during the previous new moon in Aries which encouraged us to not only make a change, but also to have a plan and be smart about the actions we take. This full moon illuminates upon the balance between the identity of the individual self with the shared self (who I am and who I am with another) -- being in relationships without losing our identity and/or being brave enough to be in relationships without compromising our own core values.

The Full Moon in Libra occurs at 18° on April 6th at 12:19 p.m. Pacific / 3:19 p.m. Eastern. Those born within 3 days of April 6 or October 10 or with natal planets and/or house angles on or around 18° of cardinal signs may feel the effects of this full moon stronger than others.

Elsewhere in the sky, retrograde-Mars (motivation/action), Venus (relationships/finances), Neptune (dreams/sacrifice) and the North Node (life path) are all locked in an intense mutable grand cross. In previous posts, I explained a grand cross as the combination of (at least) four squares and (at least) two oppositions. A square is the most difficult and challenging relationship between two planets. It is an impatient energy that requires action. It is conflict, war between two (or more) celestial bodies. There is a need to create something birthed from inside us and to manifest that creation out into the world -- may it be in your own personal world, your immediate environment or something that influences many. An opposition is a tense relationship between planets that require balance. Unlike a square where agreeing to disagree is sometimes the best solution that can be hoped for, an opposition can be satisfied by finding the harmony/balance between the two polarizing energies. This full moon phase can be one filled with insight (Neptune) about the true state of our relationships or finances (Venus) which may trigger aggression/determination/action (Mars) that help ultimately result in a change in our life direction (North Node). However, with Neptune, there is a thin line between insight and illusion; recognizing truth and escapism; vision and delusion; intuition and denial. Whether this Libra-full moon proves to be a help or a fruitless difficult experience is really quite up to you.

For me, this Full Moon opposes my natal Moon (heart/emotional core) and squares my natal Mars, triggering the mutual reception (give and take energy) and square (tense/aggressive energy) between my natal Cancer-Mars and Aries-Moon; and falls in my natal 1st house of the self/will (as a Virgo-rising) and solar 4th house of family/feelings (as a Cancer-Sun). Transiting Uranus continues to square my natal Sun while opposing my natal Uranus, forming a cardinal square which shoves my natal Sun up against a wall that aid in causing a very trying day to day for me!

Saturn Direct ~ June 12, 2011

Mr. Stone Cold Reality stations direct on June 12 at 8:51 p.m. PDT / 11:51 p.m. EDT, after being retrograde since January 25th. Saturn represents our limitations, boundaries, obligations, responsibilities, challenges, and the hard work and perseverance required for success in endeavors. As written on previous Saturn posts:

Saturn, the taskmaster, teaches us lifelong karmic lessons. His approach is thorough through accepting our realities and applying disciplined, practical and hard work to rise above what limits us and be a success in our endeavors.

In the sign of Libra, Saturn's focus is on our significant relationships and the obligations that come with our commitments to them. It is the less romantic approach to love but with the lesson learned comes longevity and strength of union. The same holds true for other platonic but committed partnerships. Despite personal difficulties, hurdles to jump over, broken pieces to pick up and sweat poured from the hard work, this relationship (with a best friend, business partner, parent, sibling, etc.) endures.

While Saturn was retrograde, we may have found it difficult to move forward with our plans, especially during the station days (June 12-17) when Saturn must adjust to his change of direction/pace. Don't be frustrated. Consider that things are not moving forward as quickly as you'd like because, despite what you might believe, you or the situation may not be completely ready to move ahead. Take the opportunities presented to you, limit actions, take smaller strides, and leave negative thinking/energies behind. Saturn's actions and steps are measured which might, at times, be at the speed of molasses, but they will likely prove to be effective and successful.

On the day Saturn stations direct, the Gemini-Sun (ego/conscious will) blends energies with Mercury (thought/communication) while Venus (love/money), who is also in Gemini, makes friends with Uranus (awareness/radical change) in Aries. With the Moon also waxing for an eclipsed full moon on June 15th, things may get a bit tense and intense, especially within our significant relationships, interactions with superiors, or money matters. Watch out and avoid becoming a player in the blame game. Assess if situations truly needs action taken at the present moment; if not, opt for tackling the issues another day with, hopefully, a clearer head.

While retrograde, Saturn went back through 18 to 10 degrees of Libra, and will now revisit those degrees for a third and last time until September 21. Where do 10 to 18 degrees of Libra fall on your birth chart? Those with natal planets/house angles in Libra or cardinal signs between 10 and 18 degrees have been getting an extra workout from Saturn, especially those going through their Saturn Return! How has Saturn's retrograde cycle been for you, thus far?

Full Moon in Libra ~ April 17, 2011

The moon, seen from Terminal 3 of Manchester Airport, rises from behind the hills of the Peak District via Anorak News

Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what may have been initiated during the previous new moon in Aries which encouraged us to just do it! This Full Moon in Libra casts a spotlight on our relationships (with one another as well as with ourselves), our value system (what we value in life and why), and our worth (materially and spiritually speaking). In our relationships with others, the Libra-Full Moon may be shining upon issues about balancing the identity of the individual self with the shared self -- being in relationships without losing who we are and being brave enough to be in relationships without compromising our core values or silencing our voices/desires for the sake of another.

Elsewhere in the sky during this full moon, Saturn (reality/commitment), who is also in Libra, is locked in a challenging alignment with Mercury (thought/communication) who is in Libra's opposite sign, Aries. Both planets are retrograde (introspective). We may very well have love and relationships on the mind -- the relationship we have or wish we had, the commitment and hard work that goes in to a fostering healthy connections, and/or how our relationships have changed us -- for ill or for good.

This Full Moon occurs at 28 degrees of Libra on April 17 at 7:44 p.m. PDT / 10:44 p.m. EDT. Those born within 3 days of April 17 or October 21 or with natal planets and/or house angles on or around 28 degrees of cardinal signs may experience the effects of this full moon stronger than others.

For me as a Cancer-Sun, this Full Moon falls in my solar 4th house of home and family, the past, my roots. Family ties can get complicated. That's an understatement :) Love and obligations, intertwined. Communication/ideologies get lost within the generational and cultural gaps. Religion divides. And still through it all, I am the dutiful daughter; my sister, the understanding one; my brother, the bridge; and our mother doing her best to be a better parent to us than hers might have been. We all mean well. Hearts in a good place. But it's all still complicated. hmm...

Jupiter Oppose Saturn ~ March 28, 2011

Image via dog.com Forum

Jupiter expands. Saturn restricts. Jupiter idealizes. Saturn realizes. Jupiter, adventurous. Saturn, pragmatic. Jupiter, gigantic and playful. Saturn, stern and determined. Now these two celestial bodies are in a tug of war one final time.

Jupiter first opposed Saturn at 28 degrees of Pisces/Virgo, respectively, on May 23, 2010. With mutable signs at the helm, their energy was demanding but not necessarily forceful as with the now cardinal energy. A few months later, they were opposite one another again in mid-August 2010 at 3 degrees with Jupiter in Aries / Saturn in Libra, and that opposition was part of the Cardinal T-Square. This t-square was at its most intense and powerfully influential period from June to August 2010, of which the longer term impact in our personal world, as well as globally, have yet to be determined.

This time around Jupiter opposes Saturn on March 28 and occurring at 15 degrees of Aries and Libra, respectively. An opposition is challenging. It's conflict. But unlike a square (as with last month's Jupiter-Pluto square), an opposition can have an ideal outcome of harmony, balance, a win-win for parties involved. What do you want? (Jupiter) What are you gonna do about it? (Saturn) It's win-win when your aspirations are grounded enough in reality and you don't allow the limitations to become a source of discouragement. Instead, you rise up to the challenge by using the knowledge of what the restrictions/blockages may be and commit yourself to the hard work ahead on the way to achieving set goals, despite how daunting going for it seems to be. Let Jupiter fuel your determination and Saturn plan your course of action.

With this Jupiter-Saturn opposition being a repeat occurrence, perhaps what was brought to light or what might have begun last year, especially between May and September, has a chance for completion now. Or maybe another look, if it's been neglected or put on hold. Or even still, perhaps it's time to take things to the next phase. However this energy may manifest in your world, it is an opportunity to bring about change/improvement to your situation. It will require commitment, perseverance, hard work and openness to new ways of thinking/communicating/doing things.

Although Jupiter and Saturn opposing each other influences us all, those with cardinal sun signs or have natal planets/house angles on or around 15 degrees of cardinal signs may experience this opposition more strongly than other.

For me as a late-decan Virgo-rising, this opposition happens in my natal 1st (self/potential where Saturn transits) vs. 7th (others/relationships where Jupiter travels) houses and as a Cancer-Sun, happens in my solar 4th (family/the past where Saturn is visiting) vs. 10th (career/the future where Jupiter transits) houses. Transits/activity in angular houses (1, 4, 7 and 10) tend to have a more forceful, powerful impact -- who we are (1st), who we are within our relationships (7th), where we've been (4th) and where we are going (10th). So, this opposition and last year's t-square, plus the Cancer-Capricorn eclipses that started in 2009 and Pluto opposing my Sun while Neptune squares my Neptune have all been rocking my world! I'm so used to my ground shifting that I wouldn't recognize stability if it fell on my head like an anvil. Okay, I wouldn't really want anything falling on me, let alone like an anvil :) But I want a win-win with this Jupiter-Saturn opposition. So, I will make an extra conscious effort to get out of my own way (1st) and really figure out what of the past remains useful (4th) and only take those going forward (10th). And note to self - Accept help when offered for no man or woman is an island (7th).

How might this opposition manifest in your world? Look to the houses where 15 degrees of Aries and Libra fall to see where in your life this energy might be experienced and whether there are links made to natal planets/house angles. Unsure where 15 degrees of Aries/Libra are on your chart or if you have natal planets/house angles around 15 degrees of cardinal signs or which signs govern your natal houses? Saturn Retrograde ~ January 25/26 to June 13, 2011

Saturn's Rings copyright to NASA

Saturns stations on January 25 at 10:10 p.m. PST (January 26 at 1:10 a.m. EST) in preparation for retrograde motion. For the next five months, the planet of reality and restrictions turns his focus inward.

While Saturn is retrograde, we may find it difficult to move forward with our plans, especially during the station days (January 25 to February 1) when Saturn must adjust to his change of direction/pace and periods when Mercury is also retrograde (March 30 to April 23).

On the day Saturn stations retrograde, Mercury is square Saturn. When the planet of thought and communication is at odds and combative with the planet of hard work and limitations, frustrations, misunderstandings and misinterpretation of intentions may occur. It's not realistic, at least for most of us, to hide under a rock on this day and avoid interactions. It becomes necessary for each of us to be aware of our own thoughts and way of communicating with others. Are we being too stubborn or unteachable? Are we truly listening to what's being communicated to us? Are those we are communicating with being more difficult than necessary? How can we adjust our reactions/words/demeanor so that real communication/exchange of ideas can actually happen?

From January 25/26 until June 13, Saturn retraces his steps from approximately 18 degrees back to about 10 degrees of Libra; then, as he becomes direct beginning mid-June, he'll go over these degrees again for a third time until about late September. Where do 10 to 18 degrees of Libra fall in your birth chart? Those with natal planets/house angles in cardinal signs between 10 and 18 degrees

For me, 10 to 18 degrees of Libra falls in my natal 1st house (self-will/potential) and my solar 4th house (home/family). Since the zodiac sign Libra governs my natal 2nd house (income/values), Saturn's retrograde may also influence my finances and/or I may find myself redefining my personal values/self-worth. It would make sense that a long, hard look at myself (natal 1st house), especially with regards to my relationship with my family or the past/my roots (solar 4th house), may result in a change of priorities/values (natal 2nd house). Pluto remains oppose to my Sun and square my Uranus while Neptune is also square my Neptune. So, there are things I'll still need to purge (Pluto) in order for changes (Uranus) to happen and effect the needed personal growth (Sun) in my life. Neptune's influence can be confusing at times, however. So, I need to continue watching out for that As some of you may know, I moved back to my hometown where my family still lives. The last months of 2010 have been an adjustment -- making room and time for family without compromising the time/energy I need to put in to my work/my goals, etc. Because I do enjoy spending time with family, it's easy to lose sight of boundaries that are necessary to balance the self with relationships.

How might Saturn's retrograde impact your life? Look to the Libra-ruled house/s in your birth chart. Match the sign with the house cusp/s on your birth chart. Venus Direct ~ November 18, 2010

Hemispheric View of Venus via NASA

Finally! Venus stations for direct motion on November 18. She's been retrograde since October 8. More recently, she returned home to Libra on November 7, where she remains until the 29th.

As written on a previous post,

Venus represents our relationships (all types -- intimate, platonic, family and that with the self), our material wealth, our value system/s, our self-worth, our capacity to see beauty in the world, and our desires.

While retrograde, Venus urged us to seek within and reflect upon issues related to our relationships, finances and self-worth. In Scorpio, Venus' focus may be in "value" -- what this object, person, belief is worth? how much influence does it have on the self? is this influence a positive one that nurtures personal growth or provides true happiness? what attachments (material or otherwise) do we cling to and why? In Libra, Venus's focus may in our relationships -- how do they enhance or limit our lives? how does the dynamic of this relationship promote self-growth?

From November 18 until approximately December 20, Venus will pass through the same degrees from 17 degrees of Libra to 13 degrees of Scorpio for the third and last time. This gives us a chance to apply what we may have learned while she was retrograde.

On the day Venus changes direction, Jupiter in Pisces, who has been retrograde since July 23 will also station for direct motion. Elsewhere in the sky on this same day, the Scorpio-Sun (ego/potential) squares Neptune (hope/enlightenment) and Chiron (wounds/healing) while also trine Uranus (radical change). Avoid getting lost in your head/dreams/visions. Life is about living ... and sometimes, living out loud! Although solitude may be necessary now, make sure you're actually spending quality time alone and not hiding or escaping. Otherwise, you might miss out on opportunities from unlikely places/sources. Expect the unexpected. It's ok to have an abrupt change of mind or feel the need to break away and venture on your own.

Look to the astrological house/s where 17 degrees of Libra to 13 degrees of Scorpio fall into. This should give you an idea of where in your life Venus' transit may be influencing you and/or where you can make the most of its energy. If you don't have your birth chart handy, cast your own -- birth date, time and place required.

Alternatively, I am available for personal consultations. Schedule your session for a 3-chart package, Solar Return (birthdays), Saturn Return (major life event) or Synastry (relationships) reading. Or you might also consider giving a loved one the gift of insight.

Have a question or need a quote for a more customized reading, ask me here. Or feel free to cruise on over to the AstroCreeps and TarotFreaks Forum* to start or join a discussion.

Venus Returns to Libra ~ November 7 to 29, 2010

Libra via Sodahead

Venus has been retrograde since October 8 and remain so until November 18. Beginning November 7th until the 29th, Venus retraces her steps from early September when she returns to her home sign of Libra and revisits 27 to 29 degrees of Libra before re-entering Scorpio on the November 29 to stay until January 7, 2011.

What were the first ten days of September like for you? Do you have unresolved issues or unfinished projects from that period? Or maybe, you did work then that you haven't been paid for yet. Much of November may be a time to help you gain some closure or arrive at a solution.

Venus symbolizes love and money, while Libra represents relationships, so these may be the areas in life that Venus' return to Libra will trigger this month. With Saturn (reality/structure/hard work) also in Libra where he's been since July and where he'll remain until 2012, some of us may be learning or re-learning how to relate with others; how to be in a healthy relationship with another/others or even with money; or how to put away our blinders and "see" our relationships as they truly are. Perhaps, finances being tight becomes a lesson in values and priorities; a relationship on the rocks finds solid ground to rebuild the relationship structure or crumbles; or a failed relationship, a lesson in self-worth.

However, Venus' transit may manifest in your life and whether these events/issues are related to Saturn's transit, take this time reassess finances and what course of action, if any, may be necessary to take; gain understanding on the nature of your relationships, whether they are healthy or not and what you can do to improve things; and/or be open to re-establish a new value system...perhaps, what you once deemed super important may no longer be at the top tier of your priorities.

Those with natal planets, especially natal Saturn, and/or house angles within 27 to 29 degrees of cardinal signs may experience Venus' return in Libra stronger than most. In addition to Venus' transit, Chiron and Neptune will now also be direct and transiting the last degrees of fellow air sign, Aquarius, during this period when Venus is also in Libra.

Also today, Neptune stations direct, after five months of being in retrograde motion.

To get an idea of how Venus' transit may influence you (along with Chiron and Neptune's transits), look to the solar and/or natal house governed by Libra (and Aquarius for Chiron and Neptune) and which house/s 27-29 degrees of Libra falls in your birth chart (26-28 degrees of Aquarius for Chiron and Neptune). For those without a birth chart handy, cast your birth chart at http://alabe.com/freechart.

Alternatively, I am available for personal consultations. Schedule your session or Request an estimate for a more customized reading.

Venus Retrograde ~ Oct. 8 to Nov. 18, 2010

Venus Unveiled copyright to Magellan Project, NASA

My very first post on this blog was last year's Venus retrograde. Has it been 18 months already?! Time flies ...

Venus retrogrades about every 18 months. Her last retrograde cycle was March 9 to April 17, 2009 in the sign of Aries. This time around Venus retrogrades from October 8 to November 18. She stations at 13 degrees of Scorpio, revisiting all the way back to 17 degrees of Libra. Venus returns to Libra on November 7 and re-enters Scorpio on November 29 to stay until January 7, 2011.

Venus represents our relationships (all types -- intimate, platonic, family and that with the self), our material wealth, our value system/s, our self-worth, our capacity to see beauty in the world, and our desires.

As with any retrograde planet, this period is a time for the prefix "re" -- reflection, reconnecting, reviewing relationships, redefining worth, and re-examining value system. So reassess, as necessary and as much as you want, but avoid making any major financial, relationship or other life-changing decisions during this period. You might just have a change of heart later.

When Venus is retrograde, it's a time to reflect upon issues related to our relationships, finances and self-worth.

This retrograde cycle happens while Saturn (maturity/reality) is also in Libra, which happens to be one of the signs that Venus governs. Saturn in Libra teaches us about our relationships by showing us the reality of our situations, the flaws within these partnerships and the cracks on the foundation that these relationships are built on. Through gaining a full understanding of what truly is, we're able to assess our situation with sobering honesty that, ideally, should help us make wiser decisions going forward.

Venus' retrograde cycle might pose more challenges to those with natal personal planets or house angles within the degrees of Scorpio and Libra that she'll be revisiting, especially on or around the station days (October 8 & November 18). Those with natal Saturn between 8 and 13 degrees of Libra may also find this to be an extra difficult period because you are also going through your Saturn Return. Those with their Libra-Sun and Ascendant at 8 to 13 degrees of Libra would also be subjected to Saturn conjunct (blending energies) with their Sun/Ascendant, while their Sun/Ascendant ruler, Venus, is retrograde and extra introspective.

For me, as a Virgo-rising, this Venus' retrograde cycle falls in my natal 1st (self/potential) and natal 2nd (income/values) houses with Libra governing my natal 2nd house. Ouch! It's never fun when any transiting planets retrograde in your income house, but even more unpleasant when it's the money planet retrograde in your money house. My natal Jupiter is station direct right on the cusp of my natal 2nd house and trine my natal Midheaven so, I am guilty of splurging here and there and, at times, being overly optimistic with future plans. Saturn's current transit through my natal 1st house has been and continues to be a great, big dose of reality :) especially with Pluto still opposing my Sun for quite some time. This Venus retrograde continues my pruning and purging (Pluto oppose my Sun) and cutting off excess (Saturn in Libra) materially, emotionally and spiritually.

How might Venus' retrograde period influence you? Look to the astrological house/s where 17 degrees of Libra to 13 degrees of Scorpio fall into. This should give you an idea of where in your life this retrograde might manifest and/or where you can make the most of its energy. If you don't have your birth chart handy, cast your own -- birth date, time and place required.

Alternatively, I am available for personal consultations. Schedule your session for a 3-chart package, Solar Return (birthdays), Saturn Return (major life event) or Synastry (relationships) reading. I can also tailor a reading to fit a client's needs -- request a quote. Or you might also consider giving a loved one the gift of insight.

Who couldn't benefit from a renewal in relationships? New Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Libra qualities (balance, objectivity, social graces, artfulness) and 7th house themes (partnerships, relationships, known enemies).

Libra is natively governed by Venus, who is currently in the intense sign of Scorpio and preparing for a retrograde cycle that begins a little after midnight (PST) the following day. Libra-New Moon (blending of heart & soul) shines upon our relationships of all types -- intimate, platonic, business, familial, and even those with our enemies.

Together with Saturn (realities/foundation) and Mercury (thought/communication), who are also both in Libra, we're able to fully understand the foundation our significant relationships are built on -- solid and strong? or practically on life support? based on respect or tied up to lies? contribute to each party's personal growth or suffocating and too stressful?

In addition to being able to see our situations are they truly are, we're also afforded a chance to figure out a way to make amends, fix the cracks on the foundation, re-establish a new foundation, or simply take the first step by acknowledging and facing the truth before us. Mercury in Libra should help with communication and understanding, while Saturn gives the backbone and commitment to the hard work ahead. Allow this new moon to give a new breath of life into our significant relationships.

With Venus (love/finances) retrograde during this New Moon phase, we are further encouraged to reflect upon the ties that bind. We also remain under the umbrella of the Jupiter and Uranus conjunction in Pisces, where the more we delve deep and reach within, the greater insight and clarity we gain.

This new moon occurs at 15 degrees of Libra. Those born within 3 days of October 7 or April 4; or have planets/house angles around 15 degrees of cardinal signs may feel the effects of this new moon stronger than most.

For me, this New Moon opposes my natal Moon (heart/inner drives) and squares my natal Mars (motivation/assertion); falls in my natal 1st house (as a Virgo-rising) and in my solar 4th house (as a Cancer-Sun). The primary focus of this Libra-New Moon may be related to the self/its potential (natal 1st house) plus its drives/goals (natal Moon/Mars), how they mesh or don't mesh with family relations and/or my own subconscious fears/habitual nature learned from childhood (natal 4th house), and what can be done to achieve harmony/balance between them.

How might this new moon influence you? Look to the natal house/s this new moon will occupy in your birth chart. Match the sign and degree to the sign on the house cusp/s. Use the list below to identify the Libra zodiac sign then click here to read about the New Moon in Houses.

Mercury in Libra ~ October 3 to 20, 2010

Libra - Justin Ballanine, DC Comics, via comicvine

After a super long stay in analytical but practical Virgo and fresh off of opposing both Jupiter and Uranus where he might have been challenged to expand thought processes and think outside the box, Mercury now spends the next three weeks in objective and fair-minded Libra.

Mercury's first week in cerebral Libra offers him a chance to mull over what his opposition with Jupiter and Uranus may have stirred as he gains focus from a square with Pluto (Oct. 4-6), followed by a conjunction with Saturn (Oct. 7-9) where he's able to solidify plans, develop ideas, etc. Mercury's conjunction with Saturn also occurs at the heels of the Libra-New Moon (Oct. 7), offering new beginnings...renewals.

Mercury governs all manners of mental activity, communication, writing/publishing, and short travels. In Virgo, he is practical, analytical, and discriminating. In Libra, Mercury is social, friendly, collaborative, and requires understanding both sides on any situation before making any judgements or decisions. At best, Mercury in Libra is fair-minded, charming and diplomatic. At worst, indecisive, gullible but bossy.

On the day Mercury enters Libra, Venus (love & money) and Mars (action & motivation) perfect their conjunction in Scorpio, who prefers decisions/actions to yield long-term results. With three planets in Libra (the Sun, Saturn & Mercury) coupled with Venus and Mars blending energies, relationships may be foremost on our minds -- may it be our personal relationships (love, family, close friendships, etc.) or business (superiors, employees, colleagues, contacts, etc.) or with the self (issues with self-worth or self-concept). Mercury enters Libra on October 3 at 8:04 a.m. PST / 11:04 a.m. EST, where he remains until October 20.

While in Libra, Mercury will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Pacific time zone; allow +/-2 days for life span of influence):
  • October 4 ~ Mercury square Pluto. covered above
  • October 8 ~ Mercury conjunct Saturn. covered above; Also today, Venus begins her retrograde cycle in Scorpio lasting until November 18.
  • October 16 to 19~ Mercury conjunct the Sun; quincunx Jupiter-rx then Uranus-rx; trine Neptune-rx and Chiron-rx. Diplomacy in interactions. Finding voice to thoughts/ideas. Compassion. Understanding. If blocked mentally, be mindful to think outside the box or seek counsel from an unlikely candidate or be open to accepting help from unexpected sources. Unique solutions may be required to remedy situations. Also during this period, the Sun is also quincunx Jupiter/Uranus and trine Neptune/Chiron, enhancing the impact of Mercury's alignments.
How might Mercury's transit in Libra influence you? Look to the natal house/s ruled by Libra. Match the sign with the house cusp/s on your birth chart. What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. The style/manner they will use get that job done is defined by the zodiac sign they occupy. Where in our life the job gets done is determined by the house the planet occupies/transits. So, when Mars (aggression) is in Aries (bold), he is more assertive than when he is in Cancer (sensitive). When traveling through the 10th house (professional life), he may bring his confidence and motivation in matters relating to our career. While in the 11th house (friendships), we may be more inclined to having our social calendar packed with activities. Having the foresight for what may be coming up or receiving confirmation on what may be happening now are ways astrology can be beneficial ... as above, so below.

Sun in Libra ~ September 22 to October 23, 2010

Libra via Fanpop

For the first time in a long time, the Sun joins Saturn (karmic lessons) in Libra. The Sun represents our external drive, our potential, our conscious will. In Virgo, the Sun is somewhat shy, cautious and conservative. In Libra, the Sun is social, accommodating and fair-minded. At best, Libra is charming, diplomatic and objective. At worst, indecisive, self-indulgent and gullible. The Libra-Sun encourages harmony between the individual self (who I am) and the shared self (who I am with another).

The Sun enters Libra on September 22 at 8:09 p.m. PST (11:09 p.m. EST) and will stay through October 23. While in Libra, the Sun urges to find the balance between remaining true to who we are even in a relationship, practice objectivity, and be reminded that we are creatures who flourish when making connections with others. Libra is governed by the planet of love, Venus, who, for the duration of the Sun's transit in Libra, transits the passionate waters of Scorpio, where she must know "how deep is your love?"

On the day the Sun enters Libra, the Moon waxes for a Full Moon the following day. This is the first of two Full Moons in Aries -- September 23 and October 22 -- giving relationship-related matters extra emphasis, especially the balance between the self and the shared self.

With Saturn also in Libra, the underlying truths surrounding our relationships (intimate, platonic, familial or with the self) become crystal clear and some realities may be too difficult to face/accept. This is, however, what we must do and part of Saturn's lesson -- upon becoming aware of truth/s, we must learn to come to terms with it/them, and be able to make changes where we can or embrace them as part of who we are/part of our life without judgement, fear, hatred or anger. With two Full Moons (Libra-Sun opposing Aries-Moon), we are afforded twice the opportunity for endings/closures/resolutions with regards to unhealthy, unhappy relationships -- whether with the self or with another.

While in Libra, the Sun will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Pacific time zone; allow +/-2 days for life span of influence):
  • September 23 ~ Full Moon in Aries at 2:17 a.m. PST (5:17 a.m. EST)
  • September 25 ~ Sun square Pluto. Confrontations. Hidden truths coming to light. Difficulties/hardships/intensity leading to breakthroughs/endings/purging.
  • September 30 ~ Sun conjunct Saturn. Obligations/commitments restrict. Realities clear. Hard work.
  • October 7 ~ New Moon in Libra at 11:45 a.m. PST (2:45 p.m. EST)
  • October 16 ~ Sun conjunct Mercury. Finding a voice to ideas. Able to express the self with ease. Charming quality. Diplomacy.
  • October 18 to 20 ~ Sun quincunx Jupiter-rx (18th); trine Neptune-rx & Chiron-rx (19th); and quincunx Uranus-rx (20th). Opportunity for healing or receiving insight. Attitude adjustment is key. Alternatively, this is also a chance to be of help to another/others. Also, during this time, Libra-Mercury makes the same connections with Neptune, Chiron and Uranus before entering Scorpio; while Mars trines Jupiter.
  • October 22 ~ Full Moon in Aries at 6:37 p.m. PST (9:37 p.m. EST)

Saturn Square Pluto-rx ~ August 21, 2010

Image credit & copyright to the University of Colorado

It's the final round for Saturn square Pluto. The bout between Saturn in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn first occurred on November 15, 2009, then was revisited earlier this year on January 31st, and finally, the last of their knock down, drag out fight happens on August 21st.

One big difference with their beat down this time around is that the culmination of square is a part of an ongoing Cardinal T-square that's been building since late May. This makes their fight or flight energy even more incontrovertible and urgent.

Saturn remains in a tight opposition with Jupiter in Aries, who also tightly squares Pluto. This Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto alignments form a Cardinal T-square. As explained in a previous post,

A square is the most difficult and challenging relationship between two or more planets. It is an impatient energy that requires action. A square is conflict, war between two celestial bodies. There is a need to create something birthed from inside us and to manifest that creation out into the world -- may it be in your own personal world, your immediate environment or something that influences many. A t-square embodies the energy of two squares plus an opposition. An opposition is a tense relationship between at least two planets that require balance. Add cardinal to the mix -- cardinal signs take action; they lead, create and initiate. So, the combined energy of a cardinal t-square makes for something that's impatient, dynamic and eager to do something...anything.In this case, something's got to give (Pluto as the focal point of t-square) in order to satisfy both our ideals/aspirations (Jupiter) and our reality/restrictions (Saturn).

Per my original Saturn square Pluto post:Saturn's focus in Libra is our relationships -- relating to partners, lovers, others. In Capricorn, Pluto takes a look at structure, foundation, and proven methods that may no longer be applicable to present life and living. Just because something has always been doesn't mean it should always be. There is no progress and no personal growth in keeping antiquated ways, ideas, values, and rules.

With Saturn and Pluto warring in the sky above us, we are forced to take a serious look at our relationships and/or what we hold on to for the sake of familiarity or even fear of the unknown, should we ever let go. In our waking world, tensions rise. We argue. We fight. We remain frustrated. Something has to give. Perhaps that something lies within us. Perhaps the first step depends upon the self.

Saturn disciplines us through restrictions while Pluto deepens our understanding through unearthing secrets; secrets others keep from us or ones we hide from the self because maybe, they are too difficult to accept. Between Saturn showing us our realities, Pluto revealing hidden truths and this energy lingering for several months, there will undoubtedly be global effects of this alignment. On a personal level, however, expect to get to the nitty gritty, purge the unnecessaries, and arrive at a destination breathing in new life as a newer, stronger, more improved version of the self.

Although we are all influenced by their square, those with natal planets or house angles on or around 3 degrees of cardinal signs (especially in Capricorn) and those going through their Saturn Return (ending of one life cycle & beginning of next) or Solar Return (personal year) may experience their energy stronger than most.

Look to the houses governed by Libra and Capricorn in your birth chart. Match the signs and degrees to get an idea of how their square/cardinal t-square might have an impact on you. Unsure if you have natal planets/house planets at 3 degrees of cardinal signs? Cast your own birth chart -- birth date, time and place required.

Alternatively, I am also available for personal consultations. Are you celebrating a birthday? Schedule your session for a Saturn Return (ending one life cycle & entering into the next), Solar Return (birthdays) or 3-Chart Reading (detailed natal & overall outlook for the next 12 months) or request a quote for a more customized reading tailored to your needs. Cardinal Grand Cross ~ August 6/7, 2010

Image credit & copyright to Mike McDonaldThe Cardinal T-square has been in full force since Saturn (reality/hard work) returned to Libra on July 21st, then followed by Mars (aggression/action) entering Libra on July 29th, and soon Venus (relationships/worth) will join the cardinal party when she transits her home sign, Libra, beginning on August 6th. This cardinal t-square currently involves Saturn (and soon Venus) in Libra opposing Uranus and Jupiter in Aries; and all are putting an extreme amount of pressure against Pluto in Capricorn who may be having a difficult time catching his breath as he feels the squeeze. Those who are early-born December Capricorns or June Cancers (also, early degree Capricorn/Cancer risings) may feel this energy stronger than others.

As I've mentioned before, this cardinal energy climaxing now has been brewing since late May starting with Uranus' entrance in Aries and its influence is long term. This cardinal force's impact on us, as individuals and as people sharing a world together, will continue to unfold for months/years to come.

Now, adding to the strain of this Cardinal T-square to form a Cardinal Grand Cross is the Moon's (heart/inner drives) transit in her home sign of Cancer during the early degrees, just as Venus also begins her transit in fellow cardinal sign, Libra. This occurs around August 6 or 7 depending on where in the world you're located.

I've previously explained what a Grand Cross is on a post for the recent Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on June 26:

A Grand Cross is a combination of (at least) four squares and (at least) two oppositions. A square is the most difficult and challenging relationship between two planets. It is an impatient energy that requires action. A square is conflict, war between two (or more) celestial bodies. Add cardinal to the mix -- cardinal signs take action; they lead, create and initiate. With the addition of the Cancer-Moon and Libra-Venus in the mix, much of the focus during this first full week of August may involve our relationships (of all types including that which we have with the self), as well as our material and self worth. It may be time to take an honest look at our attachments, may they be with people, material things, ideologies, memories, old ways/methods, etc. Attachments that take an active part in our daily lives through the decisions we make or avoid having to make and actions we take or choose not to take. It's also an ideal time to become conscious/aware of that which we choose to bury beneath the surface for fear of what acknowledging it/them might mean. These are challenging times regardless of whether we choose to live consciously or on auto-pilot. Wouldn't it be better to take control of the life we lead by grabbing the wheel, working with the energies, achieving personal goals and growing as individuals?

A New Moon in Leo occurs on Monday, August 9, just a few days after this cardinal grand cross. This Leo-New Moon phase is a great period renewals ... beginnings. Work through what you must, what the tense celestial energies are urging you to; then, use the New Moon phase to help with initiating what's to be done or what's next or whatever/wherever in your life you could use a clean slate.

For me as a Cancer-Sun at 5 degrees, transiting Pluto has been playing tug of war with my Sun all year and will continue to do so through to next year. With Pluto being the focal point of this cardinal t-square, by extension, my Sun also feels a little beat up. The Cancer-Moon in this cardinal grand cross gets cozy with my Sun. Will this blending of heart (Moon) and soul (Sun) help clarify what's been eluding me, identify what's needs pinpointing and/or soften/lighten the strain of this celestial influence against my birth chart? We'll see...

In addition to Capricorns & Cancers born within the first 4 degrees or those with Ascendants within the early degrees, Cardinal Suns/Risings plus those with natal planets/house angles between zero & 4 degrees of cardinal signs are sure to feel the energy of this cardinal t-square and cardinal grand cross stronger than others.

Unsure if you have natal planets or house angles within zero to 4 degrees of cardinal signs? Cast your own birth chart -- birth date, time, and place required.

Are you celebrating birthday? Schedule your session for a Solar Return (birthdays) or 3-Chart Reading (detailed natal & overall outlook for the next 12 months) or request a quote for a more customized reading tailored to your needs. You can also give a loved one the gift of insight.
