Full Moon in Pisces ~ Sep. 4, 2009

Pisces by Steel-Eyes at http://steel-eyes.deviantart.comOn September 4 at 12:02 p.m. Eastern, the Moon becomes full in the dreamy, intuitive, and egoless sign of Pisces. Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what was initiated during the previous New Moon in Leo, which encouraged us to bravely forge ahead in pursuit of our individual goals.

This Full Moon in Pisces touches upon our spiritual selves, our psychological make-up, the realm of our subconscious, and our collective interconnectedness while supporting Leo's emboldened individualistic ideals and seeking harmony with the Virgo-Sun's need for order through logic and reason.

Pisces governs our subconscious and all that is hidden. There is a thin line between enlightenment and delusion, insight and confusion. Its polarity is Virgo who is practical, organized, accommodating, and service-oriented. Pay attention to dreams and deepest desires (Pisces). Let the passion and determination to attain these goals grow strong enough (Leo) to result in the development of well-planned actions/decided steps (Virgo).

This Pisces-Full Moon is inconjunct with Venus (relationships/values) and makes no other connection with other celestial bodies. Elsewhere in the sky, Saturn (reality/restrictions) is inconjunct with Chiron (wounds/healing) and Neptune (intuition/inspiration; ruler of Pisces). Adjustment is required (inconjunct) if we are to be inspired (Pisces/Neptune). Embrace our reality (Saturn) and/or relationships (Venus) as they are, in spite of their imperfection (Chiron). "See" (Pisces-Moon) beyond the tangible (Virgo-Sun).

The Full Moon will occur at 12 degrees and 15 minutes in Pisces. Those born within 3 days of March 3, June 3, September 4, and December 4 may feel this Full Moon stronger than most.

For me, this full moon is perfectly inconjunct my natal Venus, while the Virgo-Sun is inconjunct with my natal Chiron -- which somewhat mirrors the current planetary alignments and energy on this day. As a Virgo-Rising this Pisces-Full Moon falls on my natal 6th house (work) and as a Cancer-Sun, on my solar 9th house (personal growth).

Venus in Leo ~ Aug. 26 to Sep. 20, 2009

This week, Cancer loses Venus and gains Mars. Mars enters Cancer one day before Venus leaves Cancer to transit Leo. Venus represents all of our relationships, our value system, our self-worth, and all financial matters. In Cancer, Venus is sensitive, caring, and moody. In Leo, Venus is bold, expressive, ardent, and love to be adored.

No matter what your Sun sign is, Venus in Leo is a time for fun and socializing so, go ahead and accept those party invitations. Make time for some friends, for play, for a little indulging here and there. Life is more fulfilling when we take the time to enjoy it. Go on a holiday with that special someone. Spend some quality time with the kids. Pick up the phone and make a spa appointment. A little pampering ... a little R&R goes a long way.

At best, Venus in Leo is confident, creative, spontaneous, outgoing, warm-hearted, and generous. At worst, Leo-Venus is self-absorbed, stubborn, hasty, and blunt.

Venus enters Leo on August 26 at 12:11 p.m. Eastern until September 20, 2009. While Venus is in Leo, she will make connections with the following celestial bodies on (all dates reflect Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):
  • August 27 ~ Venus quincunx Pluto. Total absorption. Power play. Need for control. Be mindful where decisions or reactions are rooted from. Is it love or fear?
  • August 28 ~ Mercury sextile Venus. Love fills the mind. Money matters also get some attention. There is cause for hopefulness in both love and finances. Go ahead, take a chance, and make a gesture toward the object of your affection. Analyze all details in money matters and make plans.
  • September 11 ~ Venus oppose Jupiter. Caution -- Predisposition to overindulgence, too much fun, impulsive behavior, and/or overspending.
  • September 14 ~ Venus oppose Chiron. There may be a thin line between caring for another/others and being taken advantaged of. Are you relationship-challenged? Chiron gives Venus the opportunity to give commitment-phobes, commitment-addicts, those slaves to the ideals of 'love', and all others who feel a less than successful in the relationship arena a chance to deconstruct the 'whys'?
  • September 15 ~ Venus oppose Neptune. Romanticizing love? This might be a day of rose-colored glasses. It's easy to overlook offenses. Be careful that you're not being pushover. On the other hand, it's a great day for pampering and giving in to fun -- whatever each of our version of 'fun' may be.
  • September 16 ~ Venus quincunx Uranus. Expect the unexpected. Break-ups. Hook-ups. Relationship hiccups. Financial surprises, too.
How will this Venus transit influence your birth chart? Look to the natal house/s ruled by Leo. Match the signs with the house cusps on your birth chart. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the Leo zodiac sign on your birth chart then click here for a brief explanation.

What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. The style/manner they will use get that job done is defined by the zodiac sign they occupy. Where in our life the job gets done is determined by the house the planet occupies/transits. So, when Mars (aggression) is in Aries (bold), he is more assertive than when he is in Cancer (sensitive). When traveling through the 10th house (professional life), he may bring his confidence and motivation in matters relating to our career. While in the 11th house (friendships), we may be more inclined to having our social calendar packed with activities. Mercury in Libra ~ Aug. 25 to Sep. 17, 2009

Libra by GravityGlitch at http://GravityGlitch.deviantart.comIt's already time for Mercury to leave his home sign of Virgo and enter Libra on August 25 at 4:18 p.m. Eastern, where he remains through September 17. He will retrograde on September 7 to 29 then will re-enter Libra on October 9 to 28.

Mercury governs all manners of mental activity, communication, writing/publishing, and short travels. In Virgo, he is practical, analytical, and discriminating. In Libra, Mercury is social, friendly, and requires understanding both sides on any situation before making any judgements or decisions. At best, Mercury in Libra is fair-minded, charming, and diplomatic. At worst, indecisive, gullible, and indulgent.

On the day Mercury enters Libra, Mars will have also changed signs a few hours earlier to transit Cancer. But before both planets switch signs they square each other beginning at 29 degrees of their current signs through to zero degree of their new signs, thus forming a T-Square with Pluto, who is in Capricorn at zero degree. A T-Square is a very challenging relationship between planets and is comprised of two squares and one opposition. The combination of these three planets aligning in the sky results in tension and the need for immediate action/decision. There is impatience and aggression in the air. Find a way to channel this energy toward something constructive and beneficial -- impatience to decided action; aggression to self-assertion.

While Mercury is in Libra, he will make alignments with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):

  • August 25/26 ~ Mercury square Pluto. Focus. Deep concentration. Penetrating logic. Uncover what's hidden. Secrets may be revealed. Words exchanged may cut deeply.
  • August 28 ~ Mercury sextile Venus. Love fills the mind. Money matters also get some attention. There is cause for hopefulness in both love and finances. Go ahead, take a chance, and make a gesture toward the object of your affection. Analyze all details in money matters and make plans.
  • September 3 ~ Mercury square Mars. What we say doesn't reflect what we do. What we think is difficult to express. Miscommunication. Frustration. Anger. Aggression. Conflict. Allow for the possibility of misunderstanding and the need to ask question/explanation with diplomacy and perhaps, the energy of this square can become more bearable.
  • September 7 to 29 ~ Mercury Retrograde in Libra & Virgo
  • September 17 ~ Mercury-rx square Pluto. Deja vu? We've been here before, right? hmm... events or issues from the end of August may be revisited now. Our minds are sharp with logic that penetrates through lies to arrive at truths. Our words may be insensitive and hurtful. Easy to get frustrated and angered. Secrets revealed. Ability to focus, concentrate deeply.
  • October 9 ~ Mercury Re-enters Libra

Mars in Cancer ~ Aug. 25 to Oct. 16, 2009

The Planet Mars by InertiaK at http://inertiak.deviantart.comJust as Venus is leaving Cancer, Mars brings his confidence and boldness to the sweet and caring sign of Cancer. Mars' visit in the first water sign of the zodiac is visibly different from his stay in carefree and social butterfly, Gemini.

Mars governs our aggression, self-assertion, physical activities, and passions. In Gemini, he is an eager, fast-moving multi-tasker. In Cancer, Mars is conscientious, motivated to satisfy the needs of others, and protect those who are dear to us. Mars' anger is slow to burn in Cancer, but once expressed, his anger can be as destructive as a tsunami.

Mars in Cancer reminds us that actions to the benefit another or others are honorable and should not be seen as a weakness. It is far more difficult and requires more inner strength to become vulnerable enough to let others/another know that we care...that we care enough to put their needs about ours. Mars in Cancer is also more subtle in his ways. There's no need to bulldoze our ideas or desires if the desired results can be done more quietly and amiably.

At best, Mars in Cancer is protective, sympathetic, and understanding. At worst, passive, overemotional, and clingy. Mars enters Cancer on August 25 at 1:15 p.m. Eastern and will stay through October 16.

On the day Mars enters Cancer, Mercury will also change signs a few hours later to transit Libra. But before both planets switch signs they square each other beginning at 29 degrees of their current signs through to zero degree of their new signs, thus forming a T-Square with Pluto, who is in Capricorn at zero degree. While Mars is in Cancer, he will make alignments with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):
  • August 25/26 ~ Mars oppose Pluto. The alignment Mars began with Pluto the previous will be perfect today. There is continued tension in the air. Ensure that actions are motivated, purposeful, and well-planned. Actions/decisions made in haste may be regretted later.
  • September 23 ~ Mars quincunx Jupiter. Let the good times roll. Watch out for excessiveness. Be mindful of not overdoing or overextending yourself.
  • September 30/October 1 ~ Mercury sextile Mars. Opportunistic time to request for what you desire, act upon what you've been planning on, or get yourself heard!
  • October 4 ~ Mercury sextile Mars; Mars quincunx Neptune and trine Uranus. Think. Plan. Act. But leave some room for surprises.
  • October 12 ~ Mars sextile Saturn. Actions and hard work pay off. Long-term benefits to well-intentioned and well-planned actions/decisions.
  • October 13 ~ Venus sextile Mars. Good day for love, money, and sex. Shoppers, watch out for overspending and impulse buying. Foodies, watch out for gluttony. Even with Venus in shy Virgo and Mars in reserved Cancer, we can still get into a bit of *good* trouble :)

Sun in Virgo ~ Aug. 22 to Sep. 22, 2009

Virgo by Velvetta at http://velvetta.deviantart.comIt's been fun, but now it's time for the Sun to leave his native sign of Leo for the more discriminating, Virgo. The Sun represents our ego, our potential, our conscious will. In Leo, the Sun is bright, brave, and confident. In Virgo, however, the Sun is somewhat shy, cautious, and conservative.

At best, Virgo is intelligent, practical, analytical, dependable, adaptable, and a perfectionist. At worst, Virgo is overly critical, worrisome, nit-picky, fault-finding, and gets stuck in the details unable to see the bigger picture. The Sun in Virgo is concerned about the day to day (including our jobs & chores) and physical health (including our diet & exercise), seeks what's familiar, and finds comfort in order.

The Sun enters Virgo on August 22 at 7:38 p.m. Eastern and will stay through September 22. While in Virgo, we are encouraged to organize our life, practice practicality, and care for our physical bodies. Virgo is governed by Mercury (mental activities/communication) who will retrograde from September 7 to 29. The Sun's transit in Virgo is an ideal period for beginning a new exercise routine, eating healthier foods, planning for what the immediate future requires, and organizing life in general. During Mercury's retrograde period, revising existing methods may improve upon them, thus yielding more desired results.

While the Sun is in Virgo, he will make alignments with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):
  • August 23 ~ Sun trine Pluto. Inevitable change. Tapping into hidden power/strength. Uncovering hidden potential. Acceptance of flaws. Transformation. No resistance. No fear.
  • September 4 ~ Full Moon in Pisces
  • September 16 ~ Sun quincunx Neptune. Something strange in the air. Can't quite pinpoint it. Feeling inspired one moment and seeking the comfort of routine the next. Difficulty focusing. Ability to concentrate may come later in the evening, as the Moon enters Virgo and quickly links herself to Pluto.
  • September 17 ~ Sun conjunct Saturn and oppose Uranus. How do we move forward if the restrictions of the present has too much of a grip on us? How can we be enterprising and innovative if our ways are antiquated? The Sun blends energies with our realities, forcing us to see what limits us and the harsh truths to our situation. At the same time, the Sun seeks harmony between upholding and breaking away from established ways to create a new and more appropriate approach to achieving our objectives. With the Saturn-Uranus opposition still lingering (September 15) and Mercury-rx square Pluto also influencing the sky (both at Aries Point), our ability for deep concentration and focus (Mercury-Pluto square) may give way to the balance needed (opposition) in the toggle between the old (Saturn) and the new (Uranus).
  • September 18 ~ New Moon in Virgo.
  • September 20 ~ Sun conjunct Mercury-rx and both trine the North Node. With our minds (Mercury) mingling with our conscious will (Sun), while in the sign of Virgo (planning), we're able to analyze the self and its life path (North Node). Also on this day, Venus in Virgo trines Pluto and our relationships get scrutinized. This includes our relationship with the self and with the material world/finances. Mid-afternoon, the Libra-Moon trines Neptune. Be open, down to our core, for inspiration and insight. Since Mercury is retrograde and retracing his steps from when he was last at 27 degrees of Virgo, events or issues on or around August 23 may resurface now. Mercury Retrograde ~ September 7 to 29, 2009

Is it really that time again?! Mercury was last retrograde in May. Next month, the fastest moving planet in the zodiac will once again be retrograde for 3 weeks from September 7 to 29; the complete retrograde cycle, including the shadow period is August 17 to October 14.

Unlike his movements back in May, next month Mercury joins five other celestial bodies which are currently in retrograde (Jupiter, Chiron, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto). This makes it all the more easier, perhaps inevitable, for us to turn our focus inward. Added to that energy is Pluto's return at Aries Point in Capricorn, who will undoubtedly rehash what remains unanswered ... unsettled.

As I posted a few months ago during Mercury's last retrograde period:

Following the standard with any retrograde planet, this Mercury retrograde period is a time for the prefix "re" -- reflect, rethink, re-plan, review, retool, reorganize, redefine, re-examine, rewrite, reread, repair. So reassess, as necessary and as much as you want, but avoid starting new projects, signing any contracts, or entering into any major agreements or commitments. It's easy to overlook details or neglect to include information pertinent to the terms. A change of mind is also common. If you must enter into an agreement during the retrograde period, it is important to re-read all fine print, have another set of eyes go over it, and get all your questions answered before completing the transaction.

This period does not need to be daunting and feared or cause you to suspend living your life in any way. Simply make allowances and/or preemptive actions to minimize the unavoidable retrograde effects. Do not underestimate the frustration, inconvenience, and havoc a Mercury retrograde can produce, however.

Mercury rules mental processes, communication, commerce, trade and affects all of these plus travel and electronics. Allow for delays, especially on the station days
[which, for this current period, are September 7 & September 29]. Expect miscommunication so, ensure that all details are understood. Ask detailed questions to prevent misunderstandings. Wait until the retrograde period is over before buying a new computer, mp3 player, cell phone, or any other electronic items. If this is unavoidable, make sure the return/exchange/refund policy coverage is extensive enough that the purchased item can be returned/exchanged should it requires repair or replacement later. Consider buying the extra warranty offered, if the item is a costly one.

With the shadow period beginning today, August 17, pay attention to events and issues during these next weeks. They may resurface around the end of September/early October. Perhaps, to find resolutions for unresolved issues or to revisit situations simply for them to be reflected upon.

Mercury retraces his steps beginning from 6 degrees and 13 minutes of Libra all the way back to 21 degrees and 38 minutes of Virgo.

As a Virgo-rising, a portion of this retrograde period will occur in my 1st house (self/vitality) then the 12th house (subconscious/hidden matter). While he is revisiting my 12th house, I am given the opportunity to sort through and understand the part of myself that holds secrets/answers that may be unknown or unclear to my conscious mind. This will also be a period of low energy for me so, I will make sure to listen to my body and rest when I need to and not overextend/overtire myself.

What house/s will Mercury's retrograde motion revisit? Look to the Virgo and Libra ruled house/s in your birth chart. Match the signs AND degrees on your birth chart. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the Virgo and Libra zodiac signs on your birth chart then click here to read a brief explanation.

Cancer-Moon Oppose Pluto at Aries Point

Pluto. Credit and Copyright to InertiaK at inertiak.deviantart.comEach month starting with August until October, while Pluto is at Aries Point in Capricorn, the Moon's homecoming to Cancer is bittersweet, as she quickly opposes Pluto upon entering her home sign. Imagine being away from home for three and a half weeks each month, only to come home to tension and disharmony. The first few hours are filled with questions -- what's going on? where are you going? where have you been? why were such decisions made? don't know? figure it out -- when all the while, a beverage and some R&R is all that's longed for. Oh, the frustration ...

Fortunately, the effects only lasts a few hours but discoveries made may have longer term influence which, if not immediate then in the long run, will prove to be beneficial.

We are encouraged (maybe more like forced), to release this tension by digging deep (Pluto) through past memories of family, roots, emotional security or instability (Cancer-Moon) to determine established structure, beliefs, ways of doing things or thinking (Capricorn) that may need a renewal in order to harmonized/balance (opposition) the present self living the present life with the person we were and the life we led. In the process, we gain true control of our life, our direction, our motivation strengthened by a new foundation built on the acceptance of past experiences/lessons learned and the aspirations of the present.

Let's take a look at when these events will occur. Dates and ingress times reflect Eastern time zone. For those in other parts of the world lucky enough for this opposition to happen while slumbering, you may give a sigh of relief but consider that this influence may manifest as dreams. Influence strong +/- 5 hours.

  • Sunday, August 16 at 9:13 a.m. (opposition peaks at 10:35 a.m.) ~ This opposition with the Cancer-Moon and Pluto occurs during a series of days when Gemini-Mars and the Leo-Sun link up to the benefic triple conjunction. Our ego and potential (Sun) seeks balance with our ideals, hopefulness and capacity to let go in order to move forward (triple conjunction); our well-intentioned actions (Mars) are blessed and supported (triple conjunction). Elsewhere in the sky, alignments that are gaining strength and perfecting the following day add weight to this Moon-Pluto opposition. Mercury moves closer to blend energies with Saturn. Both are in practical, analytical Virgo, giving our minds the important task of weeding out what's important, necessary and doable from what's frivolous or currently unfavorable for us. The Leo-Sun's opposition to Neptune grows closer, inspiring us to expand our interests and focus to what is beneficial for the greater good.

  • Saturday, September 12 at 4:19 p.m. (opposition peaks at 5:27 p.m.) ~ While our inner self is searching for answers in order to achieve balance, Virgo-Saturn and Aquarius-Neptune are quincunx and adds to the tension already felt within our deepest core. In moments of greatest difficulty, take a deep breath, release the grip, and let go of the need for control. By adjusting (quincunx) our usual ways (Virgo-Saturn), we open the self to receive the awareness/enlightenment (Aquarius-Neptune) necessary to the empowerment offered by the Moon and Pluto opposition.

  • Friday, October 9 at 9:48 p.m. (opposition peaks at 11:17 p.m.) ~ Today may be extra trying on money matters and/or our relationships, including that we have with the self. Adding to the tension between the Moon and Pluto is Venus (relationships/money/self-worth), as she opposes Uranus (awareness/radical changes) and is quincunx Neptune (dreams/enlightenment). Re-assessing our financial situation -- We may be forced to re-do our budget or create one because of a change in income. Coping with troubled relationship -- We may have to cut existing relationships out of our lives or may find ourselves thrust into a new relationship or new type of relationship. Perhaps it is our relationship with the self that is the main focus -- our self-worth, our value system, who we are when we are in a relationship and if that remains true to we are as individuals. Whatever the case may be, be open to receive despite messages being harsh or disheartening. Once the unpleasantness of a situation is acknowledged, accept them despite the initial urge to push away or deny. It is through acceptance that opens windows of opportunities.

Although an opposition is not the easiest energy to deal with, it helps to know that the key is balance -- seeing both sides and accepting them as true and valuable in their own way. One side does not need to overpower the other. Instead, both sides play their own key roles within the whole. It is interesting that all three of the Moon-Pluto opposition dates have a Neptunian influence surrounding their energy. Make it a point to yield to the intuitive self on these dates and see what Neptune's insightfulness has in store for you.

Those with natal Moon-Pluto alignments; or those born in the early days of Scorpio or Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn); or have natal planets/house angles within 0-1 degree of Cardinal signs may feel this opposition more strongly than others.

New Moon in Leo ~ August 20, 2009

Leo Moon by Moonlighting Aside at moonlighting-aside.deviantart.comNew Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Leo qualities (willful, charismatic, courageous, prideful, confident) and 5th house themes (love, pleasure, creative projects, children).

Leo is natively ruled by the Sun, the largest body in our solar system and the object that other celestial bodies orbit around. I guess it's only appropriate that Leo loves attention :)

The Moon in Leo is bold, strong-willed, stable, and becomes new on August 20 at 6:01 a.m. Eastern. This new moon is uncomfortable with Uranus (awaken), friendly with Mars (initiate), and seeks balance with the triple conjunction -- Chiron (mend), Jupiter (aspire), and Neptune (transcend).

Elsewhere in the sky, Jupiter (aspirations) and Saturn (limitations) frustrate each other. This doesn't need to be a counter-productive energy, however. Yield to each planets' strengths to produce desired results. Jupiter gives us hope and opportunities while Saturn shows us what's necessary to get things accomplished, even if it means laying out all the obstacles along the way. We can be successful with foresight.

Allies in Leo, the Sun (conscious will) & Moon (emotional core) are asking -- Having made aware (Uranus) of our dreams (Jupiter), are we brave (Leo) enough to act upon them (Mars)? What are we holding on to (Chiron) that blocks us (Saturn) from believing (Neptune) that we can have a renewal (New Moon)?

As a Cancer-Sun, this new moon falls in my 2nd house of income and value; as a Virgo-Rising, it falls in my 12th house of the subconscious. That which are hidden (12th house) is illuminated and this new found knowledge affords me the opportunity to initiate something new (new moon), perhaps creative projects (Leo/5th house-related), that may increase/influence my material worth (2nd house).

This new moon occurs at 27 degrees of Leo. Those born within 3 days of August 20 or February 16 or have planets/house angles on or around 27 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius may feel the effects of this new moon stronger than most.

How will this new moon influence your life? Look to the natal house/s this new moon will occupy in your birth chart. Match the sign and degree to the sign on the house cusp/s. Use the list below then click here to read about the New Moon in Houses.

Pluto Returns to Aries Point ~ Aug. 6 to Oct. 17, 2009

Exclusion - Pluto with Charon by Alexei Kozachenko at nameless-designer.deviantart.com
Two days ago on August 6, Pluto slipped back to zero degree of Capricorn. This early degree of of any cardinal sign is said to be Aries Point, a sensitive spot. One of my favorite astrologers, Celeste Teal, explains it best (click here for her site):

The true Aries Point degree is 0 Aries, however, the 0 degree of the four Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) are all referred to as Aries Point degrees. This beginning degree of the Cardinal signs has similar connotations to the angles of a chart and is an indicator of eventful times when occupied by a planet or found on a house cusp. These points are indicative of a spectacular out rush of energies. There is frequently an involvement with the world at large. Outsiders or those who’re considered an expert in some area becomes involved in one’s personal matters. Ramifications of events often have a domino effect into each personal area of the life as represented by these four Cardinal points: personal, family, relationships and status.

So, what could this mean? Pluto returning to zero degree of Capricorn signify different things to each of us since Pluto's transit in Capricorn influences each of our birth charts differently. Let's explore then, what this period would generally mean. Pluto last entered the zodiac sign of Capricorn on November 26, 2008 (November 27 in other parts of the world) and remained at zero degree until Christmas Eve, December 24, 2008.

Pluto's current retrograde motion has taken us back to his early days in this sign. In doing so, he may highlight issues, events, and situations of those last weeks in 2008. Some issues may have gone without resolution; others may have been resolved for one party, but not the other; some important details may have been hidden or have not yet occurred at that time ... No matter which of these -- between now and mid-October, we may see issues resurface, truths uncovered, or current situations that are somehow "linked" or reminiscent of 2008.

Pluto has been in retrograde motion since April 4, 2009 and will remain so until September 11, 2009. Retrograde periods are a time when the planet's energies are turned inward; its energies are best expended in reflection and re-assessment. Pluto represents empowerment, releasing what no longer works, in order for regeneration/rebirth, thereby bringing "power" back into one's own control. In the sign Capricorn, on a personal level, Pluto's retrograde might be a time to re-examine long term goals, re-evaluate professional pursuits, reestablish one's public persona, make plans on what type of reputation one would like to establish, let go of old belief systems and replace it with something that reflects one's current life, or restructure one's core foundation.

Pluto is a slow moving planet and his work/influence on each of us unfolds slowly but remarkably life-altering. He first entered Capricorn late January 2008, but didn't get too settled into the sign, having only stayed until June 2008. Could it be that the enlightenment about to be discovered, closures about to occur, or beginnings that are about to be embarked upon are related to as far back as January 2008? Hmm ... you let me know...

As a Cancer-Sun, Pluto in Capricorn transits my 7th house of partnerships; and as Virgo-Rising, the sign Capricorn governs my 5th house of true love and creative enterprise, while he currently transits my 4th house which represents family, roots, and the past. There may be obsolete fundamental precepts and/or past memories (natal 4th) that I have been holding on to and that hinders me from fully prospering in my creative endeavors (natal 5th) and enjoying success in love (natal 5th) and long-term relationships (natal 7th).

What influences will Pluto's return at Aries Point have on your life? Look to the house/s governed by Capricorn, as well as planets and/or house angles within 0 to 1 degree of cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) to gain insight on how and where in your life this zero-degree Pluto in Capricorn transit might be influential. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the sign Capricorn.

Mars, Triple Conjunction & Uranus ~ Aug. 13-18, 2009

Mars with Moons, Phobos and Deimos by xXxDark-RavenxXx.deviantart.comLast month, before leaving the zodiac sign of Gemini, Venus blessed us with her alignments to the Triple Conjunction and Uranus. This month, from August 13 to 18, Mars in Gemini recreates the same exact connections. Perhaps, he is picking up where Venus left off. What does this mean for us earthlings? How does this differ with Venus' alignments last month?

While Venus' energy is receptive, Mars is assertive. He goes out there and gets things done! How he does it depends on the zodiac sign he is transiting -- in Aries, his actions are bold and aggressive; in Taurus, his steps are measured and persistent; but in Gemini, he is quick to act and a natural multi-tasker. Imagine all that he can accomplished these next few days! One caveat, however, Mars in Gemini is eager but can be a little lacking in focus. But now that we're armed with that knowledge, we can make sure to enlist Mercury (mind) and Saturn (duties), who are both in Virgo (planner) with their conjunction (blending of energies) steadily growing stronger, to aid in giving Gemini-Mars the explicit instructions he'll need to execute intelligent and productive actions.

The timeline (all dates reflect Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):

  • August 13 ~ For most of the day, the Taurus-Moon (stable inner drives) links with Mercury (mind), Saturn (work), and the triple conjunction while Mars (action) gets friendly with Jupiter (ideals). With our emotional responses grounded (Taurus-Moon) to match our organized mind (Virgo-Mercury), our actions can be more deliberate (Virgo-Saturn) as we take advantage of what can be possible (triple conjunction).
  • August 14 ~ Today, Mars' link to Jupiter remains a strong influence, continuing to give us a spring in our step and hopefulness in our movements. The Leo-Sun (conscious will) seeks balance with the energies of Jupiter. Do we continue to believe as we faithfully put ourselves out there? But how can we not continue to move forward when we've already tackled obstacles that resulted in our having taken the first steps?
  • August 15 ~ With Mercury & Saturn still growing closer, the obstacles before us may be all too real and keeping hope alive may be more challenging. As Mars link up with Chiron (wounds/healing), we are able to find the release (Chiron) we sorely need which allows us to regain our motivation (Mars); and by the end of the evening, the Gemini-Moon unites with Mars, reminding us of our innermost desires (Moon) and why we must act to fulfill them (Mars).
  • August 16 to 17 ~ Mars aligns with Neptune (enlightenment) while the Leo-Sun opposes Chiron and Neptune. With the Leo-Sun struggling to seek balance with Chiron and Neptune, cling to Mercury and Saturn in analytical and practical Virgo to gain stability in our thinking and planning, as Mercury and Saturn finally perfect their union. Keep a look out for Mercury upsetting Jupiter, however, and remain true to aspirations. Make wise (Neptune) choices (Mars).
  • August 18 ~ Finally, Mars makes his last alignment in Gemini, before entering Cancer -- a hard link to Uranus (radical change/unconventional). With the Leo-Sun continuing to oppose Neptune and is now also upsetting Uranus, while Jupiter and Saturn antagonize one another, this may prove to be a day of impulsiveness and irrational decisions/actions. Expect the unexpected. Willfully embrace (Sun) and act (Mars) in the spirit of learning (Gemini) or awakening (Aquarius/Uranus) instead of fear of loss (Saturn) or of the unknown (Neptune).

Although we all benefit from the celestial alignments between Mars and Jupiter/Chiron/Neptune/Uranus, those with natal planets/house angles at 23-26 degrees of fixed signs (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio) or air signs (Aquarius, Libra, Gemini) may be influenced more strongly than others.

A Day To Remember!

Today, on the day before the Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius, my day began similar to most days -- with saying hello to my Twitter pals. Then something a little different. Along with millions of people around the world on Twitter and Facebook, I wished my President a Happy Birthday. I thought that was an exciting addition to my day -- being able to give the President of the United States a birthday shout out.

Little did I know that Former President Bill Clinton would negotiate and secure the release of American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who have been jailed in North Korea since March.

It was around 3 p.m. Eastern time when I read the following tweet:
BreakingNews URGENT -- North Korea has released two U.S. journalists after Kim Jong-il issued a "special pardon."The news brought a big sigh of relief, followed by overwhelming happiness for the Ling-Lee families, then a quiet sense of "rightness" with the world ... that perhaps, despite all that's ugly, wrong, evil, unfair with the world we currently live in, there truly IS always HOPE.

Then, about an hour later, as more tweets and re-tweets are posted regarding the Ling-Lee release, I received the following tweet from one of my Twitter pals which mirrored the very thoughts swimming in my mind:
AstroVerena @astrogrrl -wow!these are great news and they're breaking with the Moon in Capricorn opposite the degree of the solar eclipse (29+)!!!As an astrologer, I can't help but be thrilled, awakened, and filled with curiosity. The Lunar Eclipse falling the day after President Obama's birthday was, for me, a promising sign for success in the changes and forward movement to come through his administration (Astrologer, Mandi Lockley has a great write-up on this -- click here to read).

Coupled with the news of Laura and Euna which was announced as the Capricorn-Moon approached the same degree that the Solar Eclipse in Cancer, the most powerful eclipse this century, occupied only two weeks prior and that the current Moon now opposes, is more than interesting! Negotiations that led to their release occurred while in the new moon phase of this super charged solar eclipse. In the following days/weeks/months, I'll most likely look into it more, especially as more of the women's stories and details of their release are uncovered. I must keep my eyes peeled, mind alert, and spirit aware as events in these coming months unfold until the next Cancer-Lunar Eclipse in December. It's a good study, and I can't wait to see where the research takes me.

This is not a typical post for me, but these are exciting times with inspiring events still to come for both our tangible world and in astrology. I just had to share my elation :)

Just added -- a video of their homecoming the following day, August 5.

Eclipsed Full Moon in Aquarius ~ Aug. 5, 2009

This month's Full Moon in Aquarius on August 5 (at 8:55 p.m. Eastern) is also a Lunar Eclipse (at 8:39 p.m. Eastern); so, that's three eclipses in a row! A rare event ... It's preceded by the Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on July 7 & Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 21. In astrology, eclipses act as catalysts, accelerating events, to help point us earthlings toward the "right" direction (read more about eclipses in astrology here).

The Moon represents our heart, private life, and inner drives. Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what was initiated during the previous New Moon. The New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Cancer encouraged us to initiate, or at the very least, embrace the inevitable changes necessary to foster personal growth. This Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse illuminates Aquarius' humanitarian ideals while supporting Cancerian concerns and seeking balance with the Leonine Sun's individualistic goals. Since there are no other celestial bodies linking to this eclipsed full moon, its power and influence are concentrated. How can individual (Leo) contribution/care (Cancer) make a difference on a larger scale (Aquarius)? How this eclipsed full moon will influence each of us depends upon where it falls in our individual charts. Being the last of the Leo-Aquarius eclipses, this eclipse brings an ending to issues brought up and being worked out within our respective chart houses since this eclipse cycle began on February 2008.

This penumbral lunar eclipse occurs at 14 degrees in Aquarius. Although, we can all benefit from this energy, those born within 3 days of February 3 or August 5, or those with natal planets/house angles at 14 degrees of fixed signs (Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, Scorpio) will undoubtedly feel this lunar eclipse's influence stronger than most.

For me, this eclipsed full moon falls in my natal 5th house (Leo's house of creative projects/love/children) and solar 8th house (transformation/finances); is at odds with my natal Venus (relationship/finances); but in harmony with my natal Chiron (wounds/healing) & Moon (heart/inner drives). Release and healing from the inside (Chiron & Moon) open doors for me to receive the good things in life and love (Venus).

Since this eclipse cycle began last year,

  • I've reconnected with my passion for astrology (natal 5th/Leo ideals) and with helping people through astrology (11th house/Aquarian ideals);
  • I've been able to release some wounds attached to the unexpected loss of a beloved child (natal 5th/solar 8th); and
  • I've endured unprecedented fluctuations in my finances (solar 8th).
Money matters were most likely a result of my finding my creative passions again and choosing to embark on that path. This last eclipse (in the Leo-Aquarius cycle) brings finality to these issues within these houses by once again shining the light upon my wounds/their healing (natal Chiron), my true desires (natal Moon), my financial situation and relationships (natal Venus) ... for ill or for good. I am hopeful it will prove to be the latter :)

How will this full moon influence your birth chart? Look to the natal house/s ruled by Aquarius. Match the sign with the house cusps on your birth chart. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the sign Aquarius on your birth chart then click here for a brief explanation on the Full Moon transit in that house.
