Mercury Retrograde ~ August 2 to 26, 2011

Mercury's horizon as seen by the Messenger © NASA

Mercury takes his quarterly break and joins Uranus, Neptune, Pluto & Chiron in retrograde motion. Mercury stations on August 2nd at 8:50 p.m. PDT / 11:50 p.m. EDT, and retrogrades until August 26th. He retraces his steps from 1° of Virgo back to 18° of Leo. Mercury returns to Leo on August 8th, and re-enters Virgo on September 8/9. The complete retrograde cycle, including the shadow period, is from July 18 to September 10.

As previously posted: Following the standard with any retrograde planet, this Mercury retrograde period is a time for the prefix "re" -- reflect, rethink, re-plan, review, retool, reorganize, redefine, re-examine, rewrite, reread, repair. So reassess, as necessary and as much as you want, but avoid starting new projects, signing any contracts, or entering into any major agreements or commitments. It's easy to overlook details or neglect to include information pertinent to the terms. A change of mind is also common. If you must enter into an agreement during the retrograde period, it is important to re-read all fine print, have another set of eyes go over it, and get all your questions answered before completing the transaction.

This period does not need to be daunting and feared or cause you to suspend living your life in any way. Simply make allowances and/or preemptive actions to minimize the unavoidable retrograde effects. Do not underestimate the frustration, inconvenience, and havoc a Mercury retrograde can produce, however.

Mercury rules mental processes, communication, commerce, trade and affects all of these plus travel and electronics. Allow for delays, especially on the station days
[which, for this current period, are August 2 & August 26]. Anticipate miscommunication so, ensure that all details are understood. Ask detailed questions to prevent misunderstandings. Wait until the retrograde period is over before buying a new computer, mp3 player, cell phone, or any other electronic items. If this is unavoidable, make sure the return/exchange/refund policy coverage is extensive enough that the purchased item can be returned/exchanged should it requires repair or replacement later. Consider buying the extra warranty offered, if the item is a costly one.

The shadow period began July 18th. Make note of events and issues beginning the shadow period. They may resurface around next month -- mid to late September. Perhaps, to find resolutions for unresolved issues or to revisit situations simply for them to be reflected upon.

Mercury in Virgo ~ July 28 to August 8, 2011

Mercury zips through Leo and enters his home sign, Virgo. In the analytical and practical sign of Virgo, Mercury is dignified by rulership (Virgo is governed by Mercury) and by exaltation (best placement for optimum potential). Mercury governs all manners of thinking, communicating, transportation, and commerce. In Leo, he is bold and magnanimous. In Virgo, Mercury is analytical, discriminating, detailed, mentally organized, and practical.

During Mercury's transit in Virgo is an ideal period to take advantage of focusing on the day to day, getting those minute everyday details under control, and taken care of. The mundane chores that leave little to be desired but require handling and completion are what we need to tackle these next few weeks. This is also a period ideal for planning. Time to fine-tune ideas or tweak the step by step detailed action plan. In Virgo, Mercury's organized and practical mind can draw up plans with exacting details and alternate avenues to take for anticipated obstacles.

Have an idea? This is the time to formulate how to get it off the ground or determine if it's feasible. Have a project? Mercury in Virgo can help break down complex concepts into manageable steps. Even those of us who are most impatient and easily bored might find this period a time when we can somewhat appreciate the meticulous details that help make up the success of the whole.

What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. The style/manner they will use get that job done is defined by the zodiac sign they occupy. Where in our life the job gets done is determined by the house the planet occupies/transits. So, when Mars (aggression) is in Aries (bold), he is more assertive than when he is in Cancer (sensitive). When traveling through the 10th house (professional life), he may bring his confidence and motivation in matters relating to our career. While in the 11th house (friendships), we may be more inclined to having our social calendar packed with activities. Having the foresight for what may be coming up or receiving confirmation on what may be happening now are ways astrology can be beneficial ... as above, so below.

Full Moon in Virgo ~ March 19, 2011

Virgo Moon image credit and copyright to shonski32 via flickr

On the last day the Sun transits Pisces, the Moon waxes and becomes full in Virgo. Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what may have been initiated during the previous new moon in Pisces which encouraged us to get in touch with our 'higher self', show compassion, and seek the truth that lies deep within our heart and soul. During the Pisces-New Moon, the North Node (life path) aligned with Neptune (enlightenment) and Uranus (awakening). Their alignment remains strong and is joined by this Full Moon in Virgo who squares the North Node, opposes Uranus and is quincunx Neptune.

The Virgo-Full Moon picks up where the Pisces-New Moon phase leaves off. The heart (Moon) may still be meticulously processing (Virgo) what might have transpired over the past two weeks, but the soul (Sun) seems to 'understand' the 'truth' without the need for words or logic (Pisces). Harmony and balance between intellect/intuition and being practical/having faith will be necessary to make the most of this full moon phase. Those who feel like they're at a crossroads in their life might experience the impact of this Full Moon in Virgo stronger than most.

This Full Moon occurs at 29 degrees of Virgo on March 19 at 11:10 a.m. PDT / 2:10 p.m. EDT. Those born within 3 days of March 19 or September 22 or or with natal planets and/or house angles around the late degrees of mutable signs or early degrees of cardinal signs may feel the effects of this full moon phase more pronounced than others.

For me as a Virgo-rising, this Full Moon falls right in my natal 1st house (the ego, the self, my potential); as a Cancer-Sun, in my 3rd house of (thought, communication); and happily aligns with my Neptune. This all happens in the backdrop of transiting Neptune continuing to square my natal Neptune. *pbbbbt* Well, I might as well pull out my crystal ball and get some direction that way! I don't really have a crystal ball but would be cool if I did :) I am a Cancer-Sun and do listen/actively use my intuition. Although, my Virgo-ascendant plus Gemini-Mercury aren't always too comfortable with too much 'woo woo' in conducting my own personal life. It seems that this full moon focuses on that part of my chart/makeup in another attempt (for I'm sure there have been other times) to help me reconcile both those parts of me. oh, joy :p

How might this full moon manifest in your world? Match the sign and degree to determine what house this full moon falls in. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the sign Virgo on your birth chart then click here for a brief explanation on the Full Moon transit in that house.

Mercury Direct ~ September 12, 2010

Winged Feet Mercury Hood Ornament copyright to T.W. Bugler

Finally! Mercury stations on September 12 and gets ready for direct motion. Yey!! Mercury has been retrograde in Virgo since August 20. Virgo-Suns and risings or those with house angles/natal planets between 5 to 19 degrees of Virgo or mutable signs may have experienced this retrograde period more pronounced than others. This Mercury retrograde cycle has been especially trying for me, and it seemed to have started earlier than August 20!

Mercury begins direct motion on September 12. The shadow remains until September 27. The three days from September 12 may also be sensitive, extra troublesome so keep a look out and anticipate signs of possible difficulties. Mid to late September can be a period to wrap things up for open issues/items from as far back as late August. It's also a period where one can kick start any plans that were reworked over the retrograde period.

Mercury continues to transit Virgo until October 3.

How was this latest Mercury retrograde period for you?

New Moon in Virgo ~ September 8, 2010

Virgo Cluster Galaxy NGC 4731 by Stephen Leshin via APOD

Some might say Virgos and Virgo-risings have had it tough these past few years. In late 2006, the Virgo-Pisces series of eclipses began and lasted through 2008, triggering necessary changes within one's life, sometimes forcibly so. Then, Saturn entered Virgo in 2007 and hung around until this past July, cracking his whip to heavy-handedly teach karmic lessons to be learned. Early-born Virgos (approximately August 23-28) have been under a trine with Pluto for at least a couple of years now and continues to be a while longer, urging for the elimination/purging of what no longer serves in order to discover/rediscover one's self-power. Late-born Virgos (approximately September 19-23) gets revisited with an opposition from Uranus until early 2011 to tie up loose ends, especially within relationships, or to finally get that final push for a radical change that promotes improvement. Also presently, Virgo's ruler, Mercury is retrograde through mid-September, while also in the sign of Virgo, and may be causing a lot trouble with delays, miscommunication, misunderstandings, or even electronics breaking down.

Thank the heavens for the New Moon in Virgo on September 8. New Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Virgo qualities (communicative, practical, analytical, adaptable) and 6th house themes (physical health, work, routines, service to others). Shake off and let go all that Saturn, Pluto and Mercury have put you through as of late, take what you've learned, and look ahead for a renewal during this new moon phase.

Of course, this New Moon benefits all, not just Virgos or Virgo-risings. Where in your life could you benefit in a renewal? In Virgo, the Moon needs to mentally process emotional drives, is discriminating, seeks comfort in routine, and needs to be of use, to be of service, to make a difference.

Apart from the Virgo-Sun and Moon blending energies and promoting the agreement of heart and soul, this Virgo-New Moon makes a beautiful angle with Venus (relationships/finances), who gets ready to switch signs in a few hours. Elsewhere in the sky, Mars (action/motivation) gets friendly with Neptune (insight/compassion), while Venus (relationships/finances) and Uranus (surprises/awakening) are locked in an awkward alignment right before Venus enters Scorpio. Connect with your deepest self and become aware of unconscious but strong inner drives. Awareness gives way to acceptance/understanding and followed by action or inaction. Fortunately, Mercury's retrograde cycle supports reflection and review to analyze whatever situation you may find yourself in.

Also on this same New Moon day and in addition to the planet of love, Venus, changing signs, another celestial shift occurs with Jupiter returning to Pisces (September 9, for some) for a few months to retrace his steps from May back to late April. During this new moon phase, past issues may resurface. It's up to you if they are a part of your beginnings or if they need to be given a final closure.

This new moon occurs at 16 degrees of Virgo on September 8 at 3:30 a.m. PST (6:30 a.m. EST). Those born within 3 days of March 6 or September 8; or have planets/house angles around 16 degrees of earth or mutable signs may feel the effects of this new moon more so than others.

For me, this New Moon quincunx my natal Moon, sextile my natal Mars, and falls in my natal 12th house (as a late-decan Virgo-rising) and my solar 3rd house (as a Cancer-Sun). If I want to see results, be able to move on some open items on my to do list or gain some insight, I have got to make some adjustments. My Aries-Moon will have to be content with seeing the Virgo-Sun/Moon's point of view and make considerations of their argument before I make any final decisions or take action. Luckily, I'm a Virgo-rising and am very familiar with Virgo energy.

How might you make use of this New Moon in Virgo? Look to the natal house/s this new moon will occupy in your birth chart. Match the sign and degree to the sign on the house cusp/s. Use the list below to identify the Virgo zodiac sign then click here to read about the New Moon in Houses.

Sun in Virgo ~ Aug. 22/23 to Sep. 22, 2010

Good Virgo. Bad Virgo. Original image source unknown.

It's time for the Sun to bid Leo goodbye and wave hello to Virgo on August 22 (PST) / August 23 (EST). The Sun represents our ego, our potential, our conscious will. In Leo, the Sun is bright, brave and confident. In Virgo, however, the Sun is shy but friendly, cautious, discriminating and conservative.

At best, Virgo is intelligent, practical, analytical, dependable, adaptable, and a perfectionist. At worst, Virgo is overly critical, worrisome, nit-picky, fault-finding, and gets stuck in the details unable to see the bigger picture. The Sun in Virgo is concerned about the day to day (including our jobs & chores) and physical health (including our diet & exercise), seeks what's familiar, and finds comfort in order.

Virgo is governed by Mercury (mental activity/communication) who is currently also in the sign of Virgo and retrograde until September 12, further enhancing Virgo-Sun's ability to analyze thoroughly, communicate precisely and mentally focus on the slightest details.

On the day the Sun shines on Virgo, the heavens continue to be tense, intense, and impatient with Saturn (the taskmaster) and Pluto (the annihilator) still going at it and triggering the T-square. Fortunately, one of the players, Uranus (the awakener) has slipped back into mellow Pisces. However, Aries-Jupiter (the risk-taker) and Libra-Saturn are still opposed and both square Capricorn-Pluto. Early born Virgos (August 22 to 27) [and Taureans, April 20 to 25] may be feeling a hint urgency from this T-square as Pluto trine their Sun. Early born cardinal signs (within the first 4 degrees) may be experiencing this energy in an even more piercing and demanding way, transiting Pluto conjunct (Capricorn), square (Aries, Libra), or oppose (Cancer) their Sun.

The Sun enters Virgo on August 22 at 10:27 p.m. PST (August 23 at 1:27 a.m. EST) and will stay through September 22. While in Virgo, the Sun will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Pacific time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):

  • August 24 ~ Full Moon in Pisces at 10:05 a.m. PST / 1:05 p.m. EST
  • August 25 to 26 ~ Sun trine Pluto-rx. Inevitable change. Tapping into undeveloped power/strength. Uncovering hidden potential. Acceptance of flaws. Transformation. No resistance. No fear.
  • September 3 ~ Sun conjunct Mercury-rx and both trine North Node (these alignments also occurred last year, around this same period). With our minds (Mercury) mingling with our conscious will (Sun), while in the sign of Virgo (planning), we're able to analyze the self and its life path (North Node).
  • September 8 ~ New Moon in Virgo at 3:30 a.m. PST / 6:30 a.m. EST
  • September 19 to 21 ~ Sun quincunx Neptune-rx, Chiron-rx; and oppose Jupiter-rx & Uranus-rx. Adjust attitude and perception. Expand the mind and become more aware of the larger picture. Openness to recognize opportunities offered and identify which are feasible and/or the wiser choice. Letting go of negative energy. The danger here is limiting the self from the necessary personal growth and realizing one's potential. Know when to get out of your own way.

Mercury Retrograde ~ Aug. 20 to Sep. 12, 2010

Commerce by Constantino Brumidi via he Architect of the Capitol

Mercury stations on August 20 and joins Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron in retrograde motion. Mercury retrogrades in Virgo for 3 weeks from August 20 to September 12; the complete retrograde cycle, including the shadow period is August 1 to September 27.

As previously posted:

Following the standard with any retrograde planet, this Mercury retrograde period is a time for the prefix "re" -- reflect, rethink, re-plan, review, retool, reorganize, redefine, re-examine, rewrite, reread, repair.

[which, for this current period, are August 20 & September 12]. Expect miscommunication so, ensure that all details are understood.

The shadow period began August 1st. Make note of events and issues during these next weeks. They may resurface around next month -- mid to late September. Perhaps, to find resolutions for unresolved issues or to revisit situations simply for them to be reflected upon.

Mercury in Virgo is analytical, discriminating, detailed, mentally organized and practical. Mercury retraces his steps in Virgo beginning from 19 degrees and 02 minutes, all the way back to 5 degrees and 39 minutes.

For me, as a late-decan Virgo-rising, this retrograde period occurs in my natal 12th house (subconscious/psyche); as a Cancer-Sun, in my solar 3rd house (thought/ideas/communication). I'll have to pay extra attention to what I say and how I say things. Choose my words wisely to convey the message which I aim to share. On a personal level, this is an ideal period to get in touch with my deeper self and its thoughts, in order for me to become conscious of what may be lying deep in my subconscious that can be of use to me now. As challenging as meditation can be for me, I'll have to try harder and make it happen if I'm to make the best of this Mercury transit.

Mercury in Virgo ~ July 27 to October 3, 2010

Winged Mercury via Spark68 Flickr

After two and a half long years, Saturn leaves Virgo (on July 21). A few days later, Mercury joins Venus (until August 6) and Mars (until July 29) in Virgo. In the analytical and practical sign of Virgo, Mercury is dignified by rulership (Virgo is governed by Mercury) and by exaltation (best placement for optimum potential). Things are really looking up for Virgo-Suns and risings. Yey!

Mercury transits Virgo on July 27 at 5:43 p.m. EST and stays through October 3. While in Virgo, Mercury retrogrades from August 20 to September 12 and retraces his steps from 19 degrees, all the way back to 5 degrees and then back again. The complete retrograde cycle with the shadow period is July 31 to September 27.

Mercury governs all manners of thinking, communicating, transportation, and commerce. In Virgo, Mercury is analytical, discriminating, detailed, mentally organized and practical. His transit in Virgo is an ideal period to take advantage of focusing on the day to day, getting those minute everyday details under control, and taken care of. The mundane chores that leave little to be desired but require handling and completion are what we need to tackle these next few weeks. This is also a period ideal for planning, especially while retrograde. Time to fine-tune ideas or tweak the step by step detailed action plan. In Virgo, Mercury's organized and practical mind can draw up plans with exacting details and alternate avenues to take for anticipated obstacles.

On the day Mercury enters Virgo, he forms a fatefully frustrating alignment with Uranus. The key is adjustment. Mercury in Virgo needs tangible proof, a logical train of thought, reason that explains what is what or why things are. This link to Uranus challenges Virgo-Mercury to think outside the box, see beyond what's tangible and understand that the inexplicable but true also exists. The answer, clarity, insight or resolution may lie in the realm of becoming conscious of the unknown which exists all the same.

Venus in Virgo ~ July 10 to August 6, 2010

Venus von PigalleVirgo-Suns and Virgo-risings, celebrate. Venus, the planet of love joins Mars and Saturn in the sign of the Virgin on July 10, just one day before the Eclipsed New Moon in Cancer.

Venus represents love, money, what we value in life and our self-worth. In love, Venus in Virgo is all about the little things, small gestures that speak volumes. In finances, Virgo-Venus is sensible and somewhat of a worrier. Virgo also values good health, healthy habits and can be a bit obsessive about hygiene.

In Leo, Venus is bold, expressive and takes charge. In Virgo, Venus takes on a more receptive role, is modest and full of that wholesome "goodness" :-) At best, Venus in Virgo is thoughtful, caring, accommodating and reliable. At worst, overly critical, discriminating and anxious.

While Venus transits Virgo, thoughtfulness shows your beloved the depth of your love; beginning an exercise regimen and/or healthier habits/lifestyle is ideal; and managing finances through a well thought outspending plan to lessen stress levels.

On the day Venus begins her transit in Virgo, she will quickly oppose (need balance) Chiron-rx and quincunx (need adjustment) Uranus-rx while the Cancer-Sun and Virgo-Mars are locked in a sextile (opportunity offered). A busy first day in Virgo for Venus. Expect the unexpected with Uranus involved. Deal with problems instead of escaping with what might provide immediate satisfaction, like shopping. There's an opportunity now to formulate unique solutions (Uranus) to whatever predicament you find yourself in (Chiron). With Sun and Mars beautifully aligned, we can successfully accomplish the tasks laid before us. For those who are naturally clumsy (like me :), pay extra attention to where you are going or what you are doing, lest you may acquire extra bruises.

Venus enters Virgo on July 10 at 7:32 a.m. EST, where she remains until August 6. While in Virgo, she will make alignments with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):

  • July 10 ~ Venus quincunx Uranus-rx and oppose Chiron-rx (in Pisces). covered above
  • July 11 ~ New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Cancer at 3:40 p.m. EST
  • July 13 ~ Venus quincunx Jupiter and trine Pluto-rx. Intensity within relationships. Too "much"-ness. Easy to overdo anything, whether it's fun and happiness or worry and fear. Adjust attitude to reflect what's desired.
  • August 4 ~ Venus quincunx Neptune-rx. The more you analyze a situation, the less you logically understand it. Make an adjustment on your approach. Consider listening to intuition and see where that leads you. Also adding to the energies today is the still lingering tension between Jupiter square Pluto that began July 24th.
  • August 6 ~ Venus quincunx Chiron-rx (in Aquarius). Ouch! Whether it's an existing hurt or someone/something causing you pain/sorrow now, it's best not to dwell or let it fester. Either approach your oppressor and deal with it or accept the situation as it is and let it go. Be aware of others around you and take this opportunity to be of help to them. Taking the focus off your situation and selflessly servicing another is also another positive way to make use of this energy. Energies may be reminiscent or linked to July 10 period when Venus in Virgo last quincunx Chiron, who was in Pisces then. If so, find a resolution for it this time around.

Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn ~ June 26, 2010

Image credit & copyright to Gain Lee

Whew... Time for another eclipse again? It's an extra trying one this time. The Capricorn-Lunar eclipse further stimulates the tension surrounding cardinal energies as it conjuncts Pluto and activates a Grand Cross involving the Sun (conscious will), Mercury (thought), Jupiter (opportunities), Uranus (radical change), the Moon (internal drives) and Saturn (restrictions) - with the exception of Saturn, who is making his way back to Libra, all are within 5 degrees of cardinal signs. We will no doubt experience the impact of this eclipse for months/years to come, in our personal lives as well as globally.

So, what does it all mean though -- Eclipse, conjunct Pluto, Grand Cross? We'll start with eclipses. Eclipses are supercharged full and new moons with influence extending up to six months. Full Moons signify endings, the culmination of what may been initiated during the previous New Moon in Gemini which encouraged us to expand our minds, improve our internal dialog & external conversations and shift our perspective to 'see' the bigger point of view. Per my original post on understanding eclipses:

Eclipses, in astrology, are accelerators. They speed up events, issues, situations in our personal lives and demand for them to be dealt with.

Eclipses trigger necessary changes to one's journey in life. Because these changes are triggered outside of one's own volition, they are often harsh, sudden and undeniable. The initial shock evoke sadness, confusion, frustration, anger, worry and, possibly, depression. However, it is our reaction past the initial shock that defines how we will allow these eclipses to influence us.

A Grand Cross is a combination of four squares and two oppositions. A square is the most difficult and challenging relationship between two planets. It is an impatient energy that requires action. A square is conflict, war between two celestial bodies. There is a need to create something birthed from inside us and to manifest that creation out into the world -- may it be in your own personal world, your immediate environment or something that influences many. An opposition is a tense relationship between planets that require balance. Unlike a square where agreeing to disagree is sometimes the best solution that can be hoped for, an opposition can be satisfied by finding the harmony/balance between the two polarizing energies.

As if the energies of an Eclipse and Cross were not enough, this Capricorn-full moon conjoins with Pluto. Pluto represents rebirth, regeneration and transformation. He is our compulsions, obsessions, ability for control and empowerment. Pluto gives us the power to tackle obstacles in life through deeply understanding our situations, which results in our letting go and being transformed in the process. Pluto's process usually brings endings, purging, destruction, complete annihilation of what no longer works before a renewal can occur. With the eclipsed moon conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, issues regarding security, material or otherwise, may arise -- what makes us feel secure and how we react when our security is threatened. We may assess what we do, hold on to, practice or believe in that no longer reflects our current life, our present self, our present drives. We may find ourselves establishing or reevaluating our goals/aspirations and define what the necessary steps are toward achieving them, including what we must sacrifice or let go of. These are just a few examples of how this eclipse may influence us. However the energies of this eclipse may manifest in your world, it can never be stressed enough that 'resistance is futile' :) We must learn to work with the energy with conscious intentionality, no matter the difficulty.

On the opposite end where the Cancer-Sun is, Mercury is conjunct the Sun while the Eclipsed Moon and Pluto both oppose Mercury, along with the Sun. Mercury governs how we think, process information, talk, communicate and interact with others. At first glance or immediate reaction, our minds are overwhelmed by both the eclipsed Moon and Pluto. We may overreact, internally or mentally panic, and unable to think clearly or in logical terms. Cancerian influence on the Sun and Mercury may cause raw, emotional reactions.

Elsewhere in the sky, Jupiter (optimism) and Uranus (the unexpected) remain in a close conjunction while Saturn (reality) and Neptune (dreams) are uncomfortably frustrating each other. So although Neptune is attuned to what our dreams may be, Saturn is working extra hard laying out the harsh truth of whatever our situation/s entail. This combination can be give a sobering effect; and if we can get past the depressing state of our affairs, we can focus our attention on what we can do to improve our situation. With Jupiter and Uranus still collaborating, we may remain eager and optimistic or we may catch a break or, at the very least, find solace/support in the least likely places or sources.

This Lunar Eclipse happens on June 26 at 7:30 a.m. EST at 4 degrees and 50 minutes in Capricorn. Those with natal planets/house angles within 5 degrees of cardinal signs will more strongly feel the impact of this eclipse, presently and in the future, more so than others. Capricorn-Suns born on or around December 26 will have this eclipsed Moon and Pluto conjunct their natal Sun and would definitely feel the impact of this eclipse in the days approaching the eclipse, as well as the longer term. Those celebrating a birthday within 3 days of June 26, prepare for an amazing, challenging and life-altering birthday year. I offer Solar Return readings, if you're interested.

Gifted Tarotist and Astrologer, Suzi Dronzek of starcana.com, posted a Tarot Affirmation on the Eight of Cups for Detachment and Cutting Ties at the AstroCreeps and TarotFreaks Blog. This may be a helpful exercise should you realize that there is a need for you to purge.

For me, as a Cancer-Sun, this eclipse actually falls a few hours before my Solar Return. Ouch! Even if I wanted to hide under a rock until next year, the universe would find a way get me out of said rock and force me to deal. So, I choose to not hide but instead willingly take up the challenge set before me. I am, after all, ready for the miracle of my life, right? Or I better be. Life, as I know it today, changes dramatically and my degree of resistance is directly related to the degree of difficulty I will face. As a Virgo-rising with my Pluto also rising, I'm somewhat of a planner and, to some degree, have to be a few steps ahead at any given time. That will be put to the test, and I have to be able to be more okay with a greater degree of uncertainty. I'm not so okay thinking about it now, but I better be soon :) I know what I can't control. I know where my limitations lie. But I also know I have control over, and I'm clever and resourceful enough to work with or around whatever restrictions there are.

Mars in Virgo ~ June 6/7 to July 29, 2010

Dark Sand Cascades on Mars

After a super long stay in Leo, Mars joins Saturn (now direct) in Virgo on June 7 at 2:11 a.m. EST (June 6 for some) and will stay through July 29, 2010. Mars is the planet of action, energy and movement. He represents our physical drives, aggression, passions, anger, self-assertion, confidence and the motivation behind our efforts. In Leo, Mars is strong-willed and driven by his own volition, carrying out his actions eagerly in a confident and ambitious manner. In Virgo, Mars is more tempered. His actions more measured. His decisions well-planned and analyzed to the detail.

Virgo is the sign constantly seeking perfection. To that end, each decision or action must reflect doing it efficiently and done right, the first time. Mars in Virgo may move a little slower than Mars in Leo, but each movement is careful, exacting and success is imminent because failure is not an option. At best, Mars in Virgo is pragmatic, focused, meticulous, productive, ready to do the work, and can be a team player, as well as an independent force. At worst, annoying, frustrating, becomes too critical, can get stuck in the details, is unable to see the bigger picture, or is unyielding to ways/ideas outside of their own because they want it when they want it, the way they want it.

Mars in Virgo gets things done, period. They may have to do it their way, but it gets done as efficiently and effectively as analyzed by the detailed perception and tedious planning of the Virgo spirit. Mars in Virgo is a doer and tenacious which is ideal when partnered with the growing and strengthening cardinal energies building celestially. Uranus entered Aries last month, followed by Jupiter now also in Aries and their growing conjunction, culminating on June 8. Jupiter and Uranus in Aries are eager to get things moving. Mars and Saturn in Virgo ensure that practical steps, actions and decisions are well-played and are results/solutions-oriented. With three slower moving planets in retrograde, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron, we're also able to hone in on inner drives and have those reflect our external actions, if necessary or applicable.

On the day Mars enters Virgo, he immediately forms a frustrating link to both Jupiter and Uranus. It is a battle of wills with Arien energy bold and ready for action while Virgoan energy stands firm on movement with precision and purpose. In our individual lives, there may be a standstill with a superior, partner, stubborn child or, even, the self. Adjustment is key. Seek to understand another's point of view and discuss/reason in their 'language' as you also seek their understanding of your position. Virgo is a sign governed by Mercury, so communication is essential when relating to Mars in Virgo.

Those with their natal Mars in Virgo have their Mars Return this year. That's great news, especially with the cardinal t-square occurring in July. You can really make some headway with personal ventures. Astrologer, Celeste Teal, defines Mars Return as:

the beginning of a new cycle involving personal initiative and important new undertakings. Mars' return to its natal place occurs approximately every two years, and the time of the return will generally find one in the midst of assertive activity of one sort or another.
While in Virgo, Mars will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):
  • June 7 ~ Mars quincunx Jupiter and Uranus. covered above
  • June 15 ~ Mars trine Pluto-rx. Actions determined. Poised for success. Ability to eliminate what's necessary efficiently. Doing the 'dirty work' required to get the job done.
  • July 26 ~ Mars quincunx Neptune-rx. Making decisions can be tough when there's confusion. Inability to make heads or tails about a situation. Refrain from major decision-making until a few days, if possible. If not, make a list of all that's entailed/entangled within the issue, study it then seek the counsel of a trusted friend/colleague for an alternate point of view.
  • July 29 ~ Mars quincunx Chiron-rx. Acting out because you've been hurt or offended. Low tolerance for patience or anger. Easily aroused into an argument. Disagreements easily escalating to something that's taken personally, even if there is no reason to. Judgements clouded.

For me, as a Virgo-rising, I welcome the planet of action in my natal 1st house to get his aid in getting things done! As a Cancer-Sun, he'll be cruising through my solar 3rd house of thought and communication to help me with my action plan.
