WeeklyScopes ~ August 30 to September 5, 2010

ARIES ~ You have an opportunity to solidify some plans, think some things through, identify what's important to you and decide whether or not you're investing enough of your time and energy on that which you truly value in life. Tall order for one week? Just aim to get things sorted out. Know now. Decide/act later.

TAURUS ~ There's a way around or through what restricts you now. Start with a simple shift in perspective. If you know what you can't do/can't have or where you can't go, then look beyond those things and switch your focus elsewhere. You'll need to quit wasting your energy by banging yourself against the same wall if you're to change your situation.

GEMINI ~ Whatever may have held you back recently was just that -- a temporary set back or, perhaps, a chance to dot all your i's and cross t's you may have previously missed doing. You have the opportunity this week to make do of your what you've planned on or promised. The difficulty may lie in which to do or act on first. Decisions, decisions.

CANCER ~ Things are not as they seem. Attune yourself to your intuitive abilities this week. Logic and reason may not be enough to give you the clarity or understanding you need to muddle through the week. Communication may be compromised so, be sure to choose your words wisely and choose to speak up instead of holding things in.

LEO ~ Pace yourself this week. If something isn't budging no matter how much coaxing or hard work you've put into it, don't force it. Redirect your attention and energy toward another item on your to-do list. There's much to be done at work and at home. Delegate, if you have the resources. Avoid any major decisions until all the facts are in.

VIRGO ~ You have the future in mind. Although, you can't help but reflect upon the more important decisions you've made in the past few weeks/months with regards to life, love, career, finances … This reflection isn't a time to regret having done or not done something. It's a time to take stock at what worked/what didn't and come up with Plan B.

LIBRA ~ Think big and outside the box. Don't be afraid to rustle some feathers, even if they're your own. There's no hurry to act upon anything now. Let whatever's brewing marinate some more. Soon, your next steps will be more clearly laid out for you and deciding “what next” should be a bit easier. Keep your focus on what outcome you'd like and that should help with the deciding factor.

SCORPIO ~ Something's got to give. You may not be too keen on giving up something or someone. But the more determined and focus you are, the more unpleasant or unbearable a particular situation becomes. Some things are beyond your control. You'll need to be okay with that and let go of what you have little or no control over.

SAGITTARIUS ~ Taking the high road may be the more noble approach but sometimes all you really want is to give them their just desserts. Immediate satisfaction can be, oh, so delicious. Should you choose to go for the jugular, just make sure you have all the correct pertinent information and that your ducks are all lined up in a row. With Mercury retrograde, misinformation and misinterpretation must be considered.

CAPRICORN ~ A busy week. A lot of little things need to get done. But you may be feeling less like yourself and a bit out of sorts which makes all that you need to accomplish this week even more challenging. Concentrate on what needs to get done instead of the situation you find yourself in. One by one and slow but surely, you'll make it through.

AQUARIUS ~ Jump right into it. Go on. Logic and reason don't always have a place when passions run high. May it be in love, personal projects you wholeheartedly believe in or embracing life, in general, do so with gusto. Careful, however, with financially-related matters. There may be information not yet available to you or some misrepresentation occurring.

PISCES ~ Family first. If your far from home or family, reconnect with parents, grandparents, or siblings this week. It'll be surprising how much hearing their voice, laughter and concerns soothe the heart and soul. Alternatively, those who have had it with your spouses, children or parents, broaden your heart and expand your mind enough to see them through different lenses. Consider putting yourself in their shoes and looking through the world through their perspective.

Synastry ~ Love Written in the Stars?

Synastry (image source unknown)

With Saturn's return to the relationships sign of Libra, there's a focus on relationships everywhere -- may it be in love, family, friends, colleagues or with the self. Late last year, when Saturn initially entered Libra, I noticed a surge in clients' interest in synastry readings. Saturn has since revisited Virgo from April to July and now has returned to Libra, where he'll remain until October 5, 2012. I thought it might be a good time to write a post on Synastry.

Our individual birth charts provide detailed information on our personal, emotional, spiritual and psychological makeup. We can pinpoint what comes difficult or easy for us, where our strengths and weaknesses lie, what our natural abilities may be, where our motivations are rooted from, and much more. Imagine then, what information could be gathered in comparing two birth charts together.

Synastry is the study of relationships in astrology. It's casting two individual birth charts for comparison with each other that provides enlightenment upon the compatibility of the two people involved and insight to the dynamic of their relationship/partnership.

Couples, new and longtime, have used synastry to gain better understanding of each other as individuals (with their individual motivations) and as a couple (functioning together as a unit). It can help clarify what's been difficult to understand, identify where the challenges lie and which avenues can be taken to provide relief, give an in-depth picture of how the partnership functions, show where common grounds are, and more.

For instance, using the synastry chart wheel below with "Person O" (birth chart on the outside of synastry wheel) and "Person I" (birth chart on the inside), we see that Person O's (PO) Sun falls in Person I's (PI) 4th house of home & family. There's a strong and deep connection between these two. PI may feel "at home" with PO, and PO might respond by wanting to protect/lend support to PI. On the flip side, we can also see that PI's Sun lights up PO's 3rd house of thought and communication. Their partnership is stimulated through communication, interaction, sharing ideas. They may find their conversations easily jumping from topic to topic and always interested in what the other has to say. We further see that PI's Sun and Mercury oppose PO's Mercury giving a heavy emphasis on communication. They may not always see eye to eye but harmony can be achieved through compromise, open communication and respecting each other's point of view. PI's 12th house natal Moon may be used to holding back emotions or prone to self-sacrifice. However, PI's Moon falling in PO's 5th house pleasure and love gives PI the feeling of more freedom for self-expression and having fun, which should help with keeping their line of communication open.

Synastry - chart comparison
This is a simplistic look at chart comparison but, hopefully, it gives an idea to what synastry in astrology is. Considerations for chart comparison include, but are not limited to, looking at -- where one person's planets, special points and house angles fall in the other person's birth chart; any aspects/alignments made with natal planets, special points and house angles between the birth charts; each of their 7th houses (partnerships house), natal planets it houses and the planets governing their 7th house. Studying how two charts click or don't click is much more complex than I can explain here without using too much astro-babble :) It also requires more considerations than what I've mentioned. Although, those are good places to start.

Synastry can be a useful tool for gaining insight in any relationship, not just intimate ones. My mom was always so alien to me ... actually, she still is :) But about a decade ago, I studied both our charts together. I don't have her time of birth so, it's not a complete picture but enough to shed light and help me with my interactions with her.

Liz Greene's Astrology for Lovers and/or Stephen Arroyo's Relationships & Life Cycles are great resources for those who want to learn more about synastry. To cast synastry charts, go to astro.com.

Alternatively, I am also available for personal consultations, including synastry readings. Schedule your session or have a question? Ask me here.

WeeklyScopes ~ August 23 to 29, 2010

Hello friends,

This week's horoscopes, that's usually posted at SatoriNation.com, will be posted here. The Satori Nation site was going through its site maintenance around the time I was getting ready to post WeeklyScopes for the week beginning August 23. And today, I'm unable to login without getting a "Service Temporarily Unavailable" error message. I will duplicate the post at Satori Nation when I get a chance. Blame it on Mercury Retrograde? :)

Blessings,

WeeklyScopes ~ August 23 to 29

* Days and times reflect North America PST

ARIES ~ There's always room for speculation. Has something truly ended or is it just quiet for now and will be revisited later? If complete closure or disclosure isn't necessary right now, then go ahead and let things marinate. Otherwise, probe for the information you seek and make sure you understand the whole situation and depth of things before making any final decisions/actions.

TAURUS ~ Priorities change. Giving up some attachments (material, conceptual or relational) to accommodate for something else or someone else may be a necessary thing at this juncture in your life. It isn't so much what (or maybe who) you are giving up that is difficult but the fact that you must let go/make a sacrifice altogether. But remember -- when one door closes, another opens.

GEMINI ~ You've given it all you've got to give. Yet, results are disappointing. You planned well enough, applied wisdom, were patient when you needed to be and sought counsel when there was uncertainty. What came about is sorely lacking from expectations but does not necessarily feel like a complete failure. It isn't always about the destination but the journey that matters more. What has this journey taught you? enlightened you with?

CANCER ~ What you've been so sure about, you now find yourself questioning. But what are you really questioning? Given the same situation and within the same parameters, would you have done things differently? Maybe it isn't your past actions/decisions you are unsure of. Perhaps, it's where to go from here. Shift your perspective and ask yourself the right questions that gets you unstuck.

LEO ~ There's no such thing as perfect and yet there continues to be a fascination for striving towards it. It's upsetting and frustrating when situations and events unfold beyond our control, beyond our reach. Perhaps, the universe would like you to consider 'surrender' … Maybe it's in surrendering that you realize everything right now is as it should. You're in the right place and on the right path.

VIRGO ~ Actions often speak louder than words. But what we do doesn't always reflect what we truly want. There's a disconnect somewhere between what the heart desires and how the mind processes that information before deciding upon how to best express it. Sometimes the truest expressions are ones made impulsively and passionately, without the censorship of thought.

LIBRA ~ Boundaries. Create them this week. There are those who seek your help but at a great cost to your own happiness or wellbeing. Do what you must but know when enough is enough. You opt for fairness and objectivity in handling situations. However, you tend to forget to add yourself as someone who also needs to be treated justly.

SCORPIO ~ It doesn't always feel like it but you really do have help. Your own individual effort, especially when enveloped with conceptual volition, is met halfway but unseen forces. If it's hard to wrap the head around that concept, then don't try to force understanding it. Just be reminded that we are co-creators of our own reality. Thoughts matter. So, couple actions with thoughts focused on what you'd like to manifest.

SAGITTARIUS ~ Obligations aren't too much fun. They can be restricting to freedom in doing whatever, whenever, however and with whomever. But they are also grounding and can give a sense of purpose -- that what you're doing has meaning and benefits another/others. There's also a sense of fulfillment in having achieved something. What ties us down can also be what helps us soar to that which is greater than the self and its whims.

CAPRICORN ~ There's not much sense in beating a dead horse or crying over already spilled milk. Your time and energy could be expended in more useful ways and toward something more deserving. Focus your mind and intent on what you can actively do something about. When all is said and done, you'll be more satisfied with yourself if your efforts produced results or were spent in a productive fashion.

AQUARIUS ~ There is a reason and season for everything. We may not always (consciously) know the how, why, or what of it all, but right now there's a sense of closure to something you may not necessarily be ready to end just yet. Don't fight it too much or try to logically figure it out. Instead, entertain that feeling/sense that there is something beginning, stirring deep within the self. Probe into that might lead you.

PISCES ~ Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Exhale ever so slowly. With that exhale, you have released a great, big burden you've been carrying. Losing that load, however, makes you wonder or worry about 'what next?' Well, what's next is whatever you make of it. Intentions behind thoughts and actions make a bigger difference than you might imagine. So, focus on what you want, not what you've left behind.

Full Moon in Pisces ~ August 24, 2010

Boris Vallejo's PISCES The Fish

Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what may have been initiated during the previous new moon in Leo which dared us to freely express ourselves. This Full Moon in Pisces touches upon our spiritual selves, our psychological make-up, the realm of our subconscious, and our collective interconnectedness while supporting Leo's emboldened individualistic ideals and seeking harmony with the Virgo-Sun's need for order through logic and reason.

This Pisces-Full Moon makes connections with what remains of the Cardinal T-Square -- a harmonious alignment with Pluto (purging/transformation) and irritating but fateful alignments with Saturn (reality/hard work) and Jupiter (ideals/opportunities).

Pisces governs our subconscious and all that is hidden. There is a thin line between enlightenment and delusion, insight and confusion. This full moon seeks balance and harmony with its polarity -- Virgo, who is practical, organized, accommodating and service-oriented. Pay attention to dreams and become aware of your deepest desires (Pisces). Let the passion and determination to attain these goals grow strong enough to result in the development of well-planned actions/decided steps (Virgo). Mercury (thought/communication) is also in Virgo, is currently in an introspective state, and can be of help in making plans, troubleshooting, anticipating obstacles and working around delays.

This Full Moon occurs at 2 degrees of Pisces on August 24 at 10:05 a.m. PST / 1:05 p.m. EST. Those born within 3 days of February 20 or August 23 or with natal planets and/or house angles on or around 2 degrees of water or mutable signs may feel the effects of this full moon stronger than others, especially with Mercury retrograde in Virgo and the Saturn-Pluto square lingering.

For me, this Full Moon trines my natal Sun (conscious will), conjuncts my natal North Node (life path), and falls in my natal 6th house of work and health (as a Virgo-rising) and my solar 9th house of personal growth and travel (as a Cancer-Sun). Well, isn't that exciting! (*a little sarcasm*) Some north node action ... I do feel and sense the big change in my life's journey (north node), following my relocation from New York back to my hometown, San Francisco. In the past few weeks, I've been getting settled in, adjusting to a new daily/weekly routine, reconnecting with old friends, hanging out with my nephew and nieces before school starts up and spending time with my mom and siblings. This full moon in Pisces brings my life in the east coast to a close and prepares me for a new life path in the west coast that's motivated and in sync with my conscious will.

Sun in Virgo ~ Aug. 22/23 to Sep. 22, 2010

Good Virgo. Bad Virgo. Original image source unknown.

It's time for the Sun to bid Leo goodbye and wave hello to Virgo on August 22 (PST) / August 23 (EST). The Sun represents our ego, our potential, our conscious will. In Leo, the Sun is bright, brave and confident. In Virgo, however, the Sun is shy but friendly, cautious, discriminating and conservative.

At best, Virgo is intelligent, practical, analytical, dependable, adaptable, and a perfectionist. At worst, Virgo is overly critical, worrisome, nit-picky, fault-finding, and gets stuck in the details unable to see the bigger picture. The Sun in Virgo is concerned about the day to day (including our jobs & chores) and physical health (including our diet & exercise), seeks what's familiar, and finds comfort in order.

Virgo is governed by Mercury (mental activity/communication) who is currently also in the sign of Virgo and retrograde until September 12, further enhancing Virgo-Sun's ability to analyze thoroughly, communicate precisely and mentally focus on the slightest details.

On the day the Sun shines on Virgo, the heavens continue to be tense, intense, and impatient with Saturn (the taskmaster) and Pluto (the annihilator) still going at it and triggering the T-square. Fortunately, one of the players, Uranus (the awakener) has slipped back into mellow Pisces. However, Aries-Jupiter (the risk-taker) and Libra-Saturn are still opposed and both square Capricorn-Pluto. Early born Virgos (August 22 to 27) [and Taureans, April 20 to 25] may be feeling a hint urgency from this T-square as Pluto trine their Sun. Early born cardinal signs (within the first 4 degrees) may be experiencing this energy in an even more piercing and demanding way, transiting Pluto conjunct (Capricorn), square (Aries, Libra), or oppose (Cancer) their Sun.

The Sun enters Virgo on August 22 at 10:27 p.m. PST (August 23 at 1:27 a.m. EST) and will stay through September 22. While in Virgo, the Sun will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Pacific time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):

  • August 24 ~ Full Moon in Pisces at 10:05 a.m. PST / 1:05 p.m. EST
  • August 25 to 26 ~ Sun trine Pluto-rx. Inevitable change. Tapping into undeveloped power/strength. Uncovering hidden potential. Acceptance of flaws. Transformation. No resistance. No fear.
  • September 3 ~ Sun conjunct Mercury-rx and both trine North Node (these alignments also occurred last year, around this same period). With our minds (Mercury) mingling with our conscious will (Sun), while in the sign of Virgo (planning), we're able to analyze the self and its life path (North Node).
  • September 8 ~ New Moon in Virgo at 3:30 a.m. PST / 6:30 a.m. EST
  • September 19 to 21 ~ Sun quincunx Neptune-rx, Chiron-rx; and oppose Jupiter-rx & Uranus-rx. Adjust attitude and perception. Expand the mind and become more aware of the larger picture. Openness to recognize opportunities offered and identify which are feasible and/or the wiser choice. Letting go of negative energy. The danger here is limiting the self from the necessary personal growth and realizing one's potential. Know when to get out of your own way.
How might the Sun's transit in Virgo influence in your life? Look to the Virgo-ruled house/s in your birth chart. Match the sign with the house cusp/s on your birth chart. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the Virgo zodiac sign on your birth chart then click here for a brief explanation of the Sun transiting those solar and/or natal houses.

What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. The style/manner they will use get that job done is defined by the zodiac sign they occupy. Where in our life the job gets done is determined by the house the planet occupies/transits. So, when Mars (aggression) is in Aries (bold), he is more assertive than when he is in Cancer (sensitive). When traveling through the 10th house (professional life), he may bring his confidence and motivation in matters relating to our career. While in the 11th house (friendships), we may be more inclined to having our social calendar packed with activities. Having the foresight for what may be coming up or receiving confirmation on what may be happening now are ways astrology can be beneficial ... as above, so below.

Saturn Square Pluto-rx ~ August 21, 2010

Image credit & copyright to the University of Colorado

It's the final round for Saturn square Pluto. The bout between Saturn in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn first occurred on November 15, 2009, then was revisited earlier this year on January 31st, and finally, the last of their knock down, drag out fight happens on August 21st.

One big difference with their beat down this time around is that the culmination of square is a part of an ongoing Cardinal T-square that's been building since late May. This makes their fight or flight energy even more incontrovertible and urgent.

Saturn remains in a tight opposition with Jupiter in Aries, who also tightly squares Pluto. This Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto alignments form a Cardinal T-square. As explained in a previous post,

A square is the most difficult and challenging relationship between two or more planets. It is an impatient energy that requires action. A square is conflict, war between two celestial bodies. There is a need to create something birthed from inside us and to manifest that creation out into the world -- may it be in your own personal world, your immediate environment or something that influences many. A t-square embodies the energy of two squares plus an opposition. An opposition is a tense relationship between at least two planets that require balance. Add cardinal to the mix -- cardinal signs take action; they lead, create and initiate. So, the combined energy of a cardinal t-square makes for something that's impatient, dynamic and eager to do something...anything.In this case, something's got to give (Pluto as the focal point of t-square) in order to satisfy both our ideals/aspirations (Jupiter) and our reality/restrictions (Saturn).

Per my original Saturn square Pluto post:Saturn's focus in Libra is our relationships -- relating to partners, lovers, others. In Capricorn, Pluto takes a look at structure, foundation, and proven methods that may no longer be applicable to present life and living. Just because something has always been doesn't mean it should always be. There is no progress and no personal growth in keeping antiquated ways, ideas, values, and rules.

With Saturn and Pluto warring in the sky above us, we are forced to take a serious look at our relationships and/or what we hold on to for the sake of familiarity or even fear of the unknown, should we ever let go. In our waking world, tensions rise. We argue. We fight. We remain frustrated. Something has to give. Perhaps that something lies within us. Perhaps the first step depends upon the self.

Saturn disciplines us through restrictions while Pluto deepens our understanding through unearthing secrets; secrets others keep from us or ones we hide from the self because maybe, they are too difficult to accept. Between Saturn showing us our realities, Pluto revealing hidden truths and this energy lingering for several months, there will undoubtedly be global effects of this alignment. On a personal level, however, expect to get to the nitty gritty, purge the unnecessaries, and arrive at a destination breathing in new life as a newer, stronger, more improved version of the self.

Although we are all influenced by their square, those with natal planets or house angles on or around 3 degrees of cardinal signs (especially in Capricorn) and those going through their Saturn Return (ending of one life cycle & beginning of next) or Solar Return (personal year) may experience their energy stronger than most.

Look to the houses governed by Libra and Capricorn in your birth chart. Match the signs and degrees to get an idea of how their square/cardinal t-square might have an impact on you. Unsure if you have natal planets/house planets at 3 degrees of cardinal signs? Cast your own birth chart -- birth date, time and place required.

Alternatively, I am also available for personal consultations. Are you celebrating a birthday? Schedule your session for a Saturn Return (ending one life cycle & entering into the next), Solar Return (birthdays) or 3-Chart Reading (detailed natal & overall outlook for the next 12 months) or request a quote for a more customized reading tailored to your needs. You might also consider giving a loved one the gift of insight.

Mercury Retrograde ~ Aug. 20 to Sep. 12, 2010

Commerce by Constantino Brumidi via he Architect of the Capitol

Mercury stations on August 20 and joins Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron in retrograde motion. Mercury retrogrades in Virgo for 3 weeks from August 20 to September 12; the complete retrograde cycle, including the shadow period is August 1 to September 27.

As previously posted:

Following the standard with any retrograde planet, this Mercury retrograde period is a time for the prefix "re" -- reflect, rethink, re-plan, review, retool, reorganize, redefine, re-examine, rewrite, reread, repair. So reassess, as necessary and as much as you want, but avoid starting new projects, signing any contracts, or entering into any major agreements or commitments. It's easy to overlook details or neglect to include information pertinent to the terms. A change of mind is also common. If you must enter into an agreement during the retrograde period, it is important to re-read all fine print, have another set of eyes go over it, and get all your questions answered before completing the transaction.

This period does not need to be daunting and feared or cause you to suspend living your life in any way. Simply make allowances and/or preemptive actions to minimize the unavoidable retrograde effects. Do not underestimate the frustration, inconvenience, and havoc a Mercury retrograde can produce, however.

Mercury rules mental processes, communication, commerce, trade and affects all of these plus travel and electronics. Allow for delays, especially on the station days
[which, for this current period, are August 20 & September 12]. Expect miscommunication so, ensure that all details are understood. Ask detailed questions to prevent misunderstandings. Wait until the retrograde period is over before buying a new computer, mp3 player, cell phone, or any other electronic items. If this is unavoidable, make sure the return/exchange/refund policy coverage is extensive enough that the purchased item can be returned/exchanged should it requires repair or replacement later. Consider buying the extra warranty offered, if the item is a costly one.

The shadow period began August 1st. Make note of events and issues during these next weeks. They may resurface around next month -- mid to late September. Perhaps, to find resolutions for unresolved issues or to revisit situations simply for them to be reflected upon.

Mercury in Virgo is analytical, discriminating, detailed, mentally organized and practical. Mercury retraces his steps in Virgo beginning from 19 degrees and 02 minutes, all the way back to 5 degrees and 39 minutes.

For me, as a late-decan Virgo-rising, this retrograde period occurs in my natal 12th house (subconscious/psyche); as a Cancer-Sun, in my solar 3rd house (thought/ideas/communication). I'll have to pay extra attention to what I say and how I say things. Choose my words wisely to convey the message which I aim to share. On a personal level, this is an ideal period to get in touch with my deeper self and its thoughts, in order for me to become conscious of what may be lying deep in my subconscious that can be of use to me now. As challenging as meditation can be for me, I'll have to try harder and make it happen if I'm to make the best of this Mercury transit.

The weekend starts off with Uranus revisiting Pisces on Friday night, where he'll stay until March 2011. The Moon spends time in the relationships sign of Libra on Friday and part of Sunday. She joins Venus (love), Mars (sex) and Saturn (reality) in Libra to help Venus and Mars lighten Saturn's mood, while he shows us truth and other issues of a serious nature.

By Sunday early evening, the Moon gets passionate in Scorpio where what you see is very rarely all that you'll get. There's a tendency to keep private or keep secrets. Unless it's a surprise party for your sweetie, 'fess up because a Scorpio-Moon will ferret out whatever lies beneath the surface, especially with Mercury (communication) in tenacious Virgo.

Uranus Returns to Pisces~Aug. 13, 2010-Mar. 11, 2011

Image credit & copyright to by Yeechi Chen via Elfwood.com

While in Aries, Uranus began his retrograde cycle on July 5th, lasting until December 5th. On August 13th, Uranus returns to Pisces until March 11, 2011, where he retraces his steps back to 26 degrees of Pisces. Upon leaving Pisces next March, he won't transit Pisces again for approximately another 84 years.

Taken from a previous post:

Uranus represents the idealist, reformist and non-conformist in all of us who seek to improve the established and antiquated for the innovative and progressive that are more suitable for present-day situations. Uranus is the awakener of the zodiac ... stirring the pot ... rocking the boat. When he decides something needs change, he will do so, radically, shockingly, and at any cost -- a revolution or even chaos.

Since Uranus entered Pisces (interconnectedness), we've seen a surge of social networking sites, making the world a little smaller by allowing us to connect with one another as if the other person is next door (MySpace, Facebook, Twitter) and an increase in socially responsible and humanitarian causes websites/services, offering the chance to make an impact through a click of a button (Kiva.org, Care2.com, Intent.com). These are generalizations, but mentioned to illustrate the societal/global influence of Uranus' transit.

On a personal level, Uranus is like a rebellious inner child that resides in all of us -- seeking freedom, protecting the unique individual, brainstorming ideas on how to create and implement the changes required for forward movement. When Uranus is retrograde, the focus/energy of this rebellious inner child turn inward. How do I attain/retain the personal freedom I seek/I've lost? How do I gain/regain my individuality? How do I exact the changes necessary to move me closer to my goals?

With this Uranus retrograde, allow your rebellious inner child to run free, think without boundaries, and conceptualize original ideas that bring you closer to achieving your objectives. In Pisces, Uranus' genius is expressed through Piscean traits. At best, Pisces is gentle, intuitive, sensitive, compassionate, insightful, and visionary. At worst, Pisces is confused and lost in its own imaginative world. With Pisces, there is a fine line between illusion and delusion, insight and deceit, love and sacrifice.

For much of this year, Jupiter has remained close to Uranus and, at times, even trailed right behind him. This continues through to early 2011. Jupiter, who is also currently retrograde, will return to Pisces next month on September 9. Jupiter is the bringer of hope, benefits, happiness and opportunities. On September 18, a conjunction between Jupiter and Uranus perfects in Pisces at 29 degrees; then again on January 4, 2011 at 27 degrees in Pisces. Prior to these upcoming meetings, Jupiter and Uranus blended energies at Aries Point in Aries on June 8.

Around December 2010 to January 2011, Uranus and Jupiter will come ever so close to a conjunction again, in a similar way they fed off each other's energy this past May. While Jupiter and Uranus walk through Pisces side by side, they will also each be in a tight semi-sextile with Neptune. Although their alignments to Neptune do not perfect, they do get close enough to make an impact. Jupiter represents our ideals and opportunities. Neptune symbolizes our spirituality and enlightenment. Together with Uranus, they awaken, enlighten, excite and promote change and growth. On January 4, 2011, a third and final conjunction between Jupiter and Uranus perfects at 27 degrees in Pisces.

With Uranus and Neptune also in mutual reception, there should be an easier flow of energy with each other and what they each need to accomplish. This meeting (December 2010 to January 2011) may bring back memories/issues of when their semi-sextile perfected around October 2009. Some things/events may have brought understanding or perhaps the weight of a thing/person/situation's significance was made crystal clear back then. This "understanding" or seeing the depth of things may happen again during this upcoming Jupiter-Uranus-Neptune aspects. The timing for their alignments are indeed significant with a Solar Eclipse in Capricorn occurring on January 4, 2011.

Semi-sextiles are usually considered of minor importance by many astrologers. But I thought it might be worth a mention anyway, since this is a semi-sextile between two outer, slower moving planets that make a reprise of a previous perfected alignment plus, it also occurs during a Lunar Eclipse.

It's a celestially wild and whacky weekend with the Cancer-Moon joining in on the Cardinal fun by turning a T-square into a Grand Cross as she opposes Pluto to give him a bit of breathing room from all the pressure from the Cardinal T-square. The planet of love, Venus, can't be left out. She begins her transit in Libra on Friday which is where Mars and Saturn currently are; and she quickly links up with all the other T-square/Grand Cross players -- Uranus and Jupiter in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn and the Cancer-Moon.

On Sunday evening, the Moon leaves Cancer and enters Leo to prepare for Monday's New Moon.

New Moon in Leo ~ August 9, 2010

Lion image copyright to Ron Kimball via Art.com

The New Moon in the magnanimous sign of Leo occurs on August 9 at 8:08 p.m. PST (11:08 p.m. EST). New Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Leo qualities (self-expression, courage, strong will, confidence) and 5th house themes (creative projects, fun & pleasure, children/inner child).

While the Leo-New Moon (blending of the heart & soul) itself does not make any other alignments with other celestial bodies, this New Moon occurs when the Cardinal T-Square between Saturn/Venus/Mars in Libra, Uranus/Jupiter in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn is still in full force. All five planets (Saturn, Venus, Mars, Uranus and Jupiter) have got Pluto pushed into a corner. We're all feeling the strain -- some have the need to break free from the established norm; others feel the urge to push forward because where we're at now is unpleasant, uncomfortable, unsatisfying; there are also those who are seeing the depth of things/issues/events/relationships/consequences (or are fighting to see these truths for fear of what acknowledging them really means). Saturn beats us down with the realities/restrictions of our present situations, affecting our relationships/finances (Venus) and motivations/drive (Mars).

While Saturn gives us a crash course, Uranus gives the eagerness to change our situations, no matter how radical these changes may be; and Jupiter offers a dash of hope and, sometimes, places opportunities along our path to help us get this going. Pluto gets the brunt of this tense energy, as he is the focal point of this cardinal t-square. Pluto digs to uncover what's hidden, purges what's unnecessary, severs ties to 'vampiric' relationships, and transforms the negative into an empowering energy. Change is the only constant thing in life. Current celestial energies are not forgiving to those who resist necessary changes. So, work with the energy, delve deep, accept harsh realities, get excited to make improvements and go for it!

This Leo-New Moon phase is an ideal period to initiate, create, renew. Express your true and whole self. The new moon occurs at 18 degrees of Leo. Those born within 3 days of August 9 or February 6; or have planets/house angles around 18 degrees of fixed signs may feel the effects of this new moon stronger than most.

For me, this New Moon trines my natal Moon while the Cardinal T-square gives my natal Sun a whipping; as a Virgo-rising, the New Moon falls in my natal 11th house of friendships and as a Cancer-Sun, falls in my solar 2nd house of income. I would benefit best from the new moon by getting up close and personal with myself -- get to know fully what my conscious (natal Sun) and semi-conscious (natal Moon) drives are; become aware of the support available within my circle of friends, as well as gaining new acquaintances/contacts (11th house); and have my heart and soul (Moon/Sun) be behind my motivations, especially with regards to increasing income (2nd house) and work-related ventures. Along with Mercury in Virgo, this can be a productive period for me on both personally and professionally.

How might this new moon influence your life? Look to the natal house/s this new moon will occupy in your birth chart. Match the sign and degree to the sign on the house cusp/s. Use the list below to identify the Leo zodiac sign then click here to read about the New Moon in Houses.

Cardinal Grand Cross ~ August 6/7, 2010

Image credit & copyright to Mike McDonaldThe Cardinal T-square has been in full force since Saturn (reality/hard work) returned to Libra on July 21st, then followed by Mars (aggression/action) entering Libra on July 29th, and soon Venus (relationships/worth) will join the cardinal party when she transits her home sign, Libra, beginning on August 6th. This cardinal t-square currently involves Saturn (and soon Venus) in Libra opposing Uranus and Jupiter in Aries; and all are putting an extreme amount of pressure against Pluto in Capricorn who may be having a difficult time catching his breath as he feels the squeeze. Those who are early-born December Capricorns or June Cancers (also, early degree Capricorn/Cancer risings) may feel this energy stronger than others.

As I've mentioned before, this cardinal energy climaxing now has been brewing since late May starting with Uranus' entrance in Aries and its influence is long term. This cardinal force's impact on us, as individuals and as people sharing a world together, will continue to unfold for months/years to come.

Now, adding to the strain of this Cardinal T-square to form a Cardinal Grand Cross is the Moon's (heart/inner drives) transit in her home sign of Cancer during the early degrees, just as Venus also begins her transit in fellow cardinal sign, Libra. This occurs around August 6 or 7 depending on where in the world you're located.

I've previously explained what a Grand Cross is on a post for the recent Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on June 26:

A Grand Cross is a combination of (at least) four squares and (at least) two oppositions. A square is the most difficult and challenging relationship between two planets. It is an impatient energy that requires action. A square is conflict, war between two (or more) celestial bodies. There is a need to create something birthed from inside us and to manifest that creation out into the world -- may it be in your own personal world, your immediate environment or something that influences many. An opposition is a tense relationship between planets that require balance. Unlike a square where agreeing to disagree is sometimes the best solution that can be hoped for, an opposition can be satisfied by finding the harmony/balance between the two polarizing energies. Add cardinal to the mix -- cardinal signs take action; they lead, create and initiate. With the addition of the Cancer-Moon and Libra-Venus in the mix, much of the focus during this first full week of August may involve our relationships (of all types including that which we have with the self), as well as our material and self worth. It may be time to take an honest look at our attachments, may they be with people, material things, ideologies, memories, old ways/methods, etc. Attachments that take an active part in our daily lives through the decisions we make or avoid having to make and actions we take or choose not to take. It's also an ideal time to become conscious/aware of that which we choose to bury beneath the surface for fear of what acknowledging it/them might mean. These are challenging times regardless of whether we choose to live consciously or on auto-pilot. Wouldn't it be better to take control of the life we lead by grabbing the wheel, working with the energies, achieving personal goals and growing as individuals?

A New Moon in Leo occurs on Monday, August 9, just a few days after this cardinal grand cross. This Leo-New Moon phase is a great period renewals ... beginnings. Work through what you must, what the tense celestial energies are urging you to; then, use the New Moon phase to help with initiating what's to be done or what's next or whatever/wherever in your life you could use a clean slate.

For me as a Cancer-Sun at 5 degrees, transiting Pluto has been playing tug of war with my Sun all year and will continue to do so through to next year. With Pluto being the focal point of this cardinal t-square, by extension, my Sun also feels a little beat up. The Cancer-Moon in this cardinal grand cross gets cozy with my Sun. Will this blending of heart (Moon) and soul (Sun) help clarify what's been eluding me, identify what's needs pinpointing and/or soften/lighten the strain of this celestial influence against my birth chart? We'll see...

In addition to Capricorns & Cancers born within the first 4 degrees or those with Ascendants within the early degrees, Cardinal Suns/Risings plus those with natal planets/house angles between zero & 4 degrees of cardinal signs are sure to feel the energy of this cardinal t-square and cardinal grand cross stronger than others.

Unsure if you have natal planets or house angles within zero to 4 degrees of cardinal signs? Cast your own birth chart -- birth date, time, and place required.
