Jupiter and Uranus Provide Some Relief ~ May 2010

Image credit & copyright to Bethany
**This blog post is a part of a series of articles that involves the meaning and implications of the upcoming astrological event occurring between June and August 2010. Check the introductory post A Cardinal Climax with Eclipses, Grand Crosses, Cardinal T-Square ~ June to August 2010 to learn more.

Jupiter, Uranus and Saturn-rx are all within the last degrees of Pisces (Jupiter & Uranus) and Virgo (Saturn). Saturn-rx and Uranus have just had their unpleasant opposition on April 26. Jupiter and Saturn will have their own tug of war, as they also oppose each other on May 23.

For much of May, Jupiter and Uranus will do a little Piscean dance as Jupiter tries to catch up with Uranus during their last degrees in the enlightened, imaginative, compassionate sign of Pisces. Jupiter does catch up with Uranus, but not until they have both entered the bold, enterprising, dynamic sign of Aries.

Jupiter and Uranus will nearly walk side by side, especially beginning the second week of May. This could very well be a short, but welcome respite from the celestial strain we've all had to encounter (erm, pretty much since the year began). We've gotten a little breather here and there, and we have another break to look forward to in May, lasting about two or three weeks. Even Jupiter's upcoming opposition with Saturn might bring a little surprise, a dash of hope, a glimmer of silver lining to our individual life challenges -- may they be immediate or persistent -- with Uranus a mere degree away.

As I write this, we are in the midst of the Saturn-Uranus opposition while Mercury is retrograde in Taurus. The tension between Saturn and Uranus makes us want to do something, act, decide, make a way. But Mercury stops us, slows us down. I'm sure it'll prove to be for the best -- acting or deciding based on reason, logic and fact instead of the need to make a move of some kind. Anyway, under this celestial strain and blockages, I couldn't help but look to the stars for relief. Relief is coming. Albeit, there's a short wait and relief itself is brief, I still welcome it and look forward to it.

My only word of caution is -- keep in mind that this Jupiter-Uranus energy is happening in the sign of Pisces. It's one thing to gain insight and grounding through the optimism and overall good feeling their growing conjunction might bring. It's quite another to become attached to this 'good feeling' and give in to avoidance or total escape. Allow Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces to help you find your center again but don't 'check out'. Continue to 'show up' every moment of each day.

Late-born Pisceans and Virgos, late-decan Pisces and Virgo risings and those with natal planets/house angles within 28-29 degrees of mutable or water signs; or between 0-1 degree of cardinal signs may easily recognize the effects of this energy more strongly than others.

Unsure if you have natal planets/house planets around 28 degrees of mutable or water signs? Cast your own birth chart for use as reference -- birth date, time, and place required.

Are you celebrating a birthday during this period? Schedule your session for a Solar Return (birthdays) or 3-Chart Reading (detailed natal & overall outlook for the next 12 months) or request a quote for a more customized reading tailored to your needs. You can also give a loved one the gift of insight.

It could have been all fun and games with the Sagittarius-Moon at the helm. But that pesky Saturn has decided to annoy Neptune all weekend. No worries, however. The Moon in Sagittarius may have his work cut out for him but she is completely undeterred and up to the task at hand.

WeeklyScopes ~ April 26 to May 2
Out with the Old, In with the New

It's a week of tension and intensity as we begin to break away from our perceived realities and see the truth hidden behind the lies, beneath the surface, or locked away deep in our own psyche. Saturn (structure) and Uranus (radical change) oppose each other, just as the Moon waxes to full in Scorpio and opposes Mercury (thought), who is currently retrograde (introspective). There is no more hiding from the truth. Acceptance upon being awakened is key even if reality is too harsh or too difficult to swallow. Only through acceptance can we begin to remove the veil that obstructs our view from seeing the possibilities of what lies ahead. It's time to shed the old (Saturn), replace it with the new (Uranus) by purging (Scorpio-Full Moon) old ways of thinking (Mercury). A change is coming.

Full Moon in Scorpio ~ April 28, 2010

Image credit and copyright to Harrison
On April 28 at 8:19 a.m. EDT, the Moon becomes full in the intense, probing sign of Scorpio. Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what may have been initiated during the previous new moon. While the New Moon in Aries encouraged action, initiation, creativity and even a re-invention of one's self, this Full Moon in Scorpio dares us to look beyond what's visible or tangible and turn our attention to what hides beneath the surface to uncover the truth or answers we seek.

Empowerment through transformation is key to this Full Moon, as the Scorpio-Moon (heart; inner drives) opposes the Sun (soul; potential) and Mercury-rx (thought; communication), while both the Sun and Mercury blend energies in Taurus (determined; practical). Elsewhere in the sky, Venus (relationships; finances) must adjust to her ill-fated brush with Pluto-rx (endings; purging), especially while Saturn-rx (reality; structure) gets frustrated with Neptune (hope; insight) and seeks balance with Uranus (radical change; unconventionality).

Where in our life are we in dire of a change? Does it involve a relationship (with another, others or the self)? Or is it with finances? Perhaps, it's work-related or a combination of a few things. According to this Full Moon, the relief, answer, solution begins within the self -- the heart (Moon), the soul (Sun) and how we think/communicate (Mercury-rx). This may entail changing the way we process information and interact with others or our own internal dialogue. There is, after all, power within intent and with words, spoken or otherwise.

Before any change can occur, however, there must first be a complete understanding of where things stand -- knowing where motivations are rooted in (are we driven for our own gain/satisfaction? or does our success benefit others? how is success defined? what about failure?); understanding how we make decisions or take action (are these decisions/actions arrived upon through fact, fear, truth, love, light?); comprehension of our fear/s and how that affect decision-making/attitudes; or awareness of where/with whom emotional/material/spiritual support in our life comes from (do you feel supported or isolated?). These are a few of what we may need to know before we can work towards purging, releasing or cutting off toxic relationships, thought processes or habits in our lives.

With Uranus, Neptune and Pluto extending their influence to this Full Moon, the transformation may very well require sacrifice and the change necessary might be something completely out of the ordinary, unconventional. So be open to delving deep, embracing truths, cleansing the core self and accepting change during this Full Moon period (April 28 to May 13).

Although we can all benefit from this full moon, those born within 3 days of April 28 or October 31 or those with natal planets/house angles within around 8 degrees of fixed signs may feel the effects of this full moon stronger than others.

For me, as a Virgo-rising, this Full Moon influences my natal 3rd (thought, communication) and completes an existing trine between my Sun (potential) and my North Node (life path) to form a water Grand Trine, while Pluto-rx continues to oppose my Sun. It's really all about me (my Sun) and where I'm going (my North Node). Whatever may still be uncertain can be understood or clarified (3rd house) through seeking intuitively or connecting with my spiritual/higher self (water Grand Trine) and eliminating what's unnecessary (Pluto-rx), in order for transformation to occur and become empowered (Scorpio-Full Moon) to continue moving ahead in achieving my potential (Taurus-Sun).

Venus in Gemini ~ April 25 to May 19, 2010

Illustration credit and copyright to DemetriusVenus leaves Taurus to transit the airy sign of the twins, Gemini, on April 25 where she'll remain until May 19. Venus governs how we relate (to others, to our selves), what we value in life (people, things, precepts), how we determine our worth (personal and material).

In Taurus, Venus is stable, comfort-seeking and driven by material security. In Gemini, Venus is less complicated, requires mental stimulation, has varied interests and can be spontaneous. Gemini governs thought, ideas, communication, interactions, education and siblings. At best, Venus in Gemini is friendly, social, curious, intelligent, open-minded and lively. At worst, facetious, superficial, duplicitous, indecisive and flighty.

While Venus is in Gemini, there's even more emphasis on communication in our relationships -- personal, intimate or business. True communication is listening (not just hearing) and speaking openly, honestly, sincerely. Relationships and friendships flourish through conversations -- meaningful, light or a simple exchange of ideas. In money matters, however, be more mindful with spending your hard-earned cash. In Gemini, impulse buying and forgetting the spending plan you may have established are easy to do. Hold off on major purchases like appliances or big investments until after Mercury is no longer retrograde which is on May 11; actually, it might be best to give it an extra few more days for good measure.

While in Gemini, Venus will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):
  • April 29 ~ Venus quincunx Pluto-rx. Tension in relations. Adjustment is key. Pluto requires change, possibly endings or purging. Venus in Gemini may choose the easy way out, give in or not take action. Do what you feel you must, just remember that there are consequences to both action and inaction.
  • May 7 ~ Venus sextile Mars. Good times. Interactions dynamic. Relations agreeable.
  • May 17 to 19 ~ Venus square Jupiter, Saturn-rx and Uranus; and trine Neptune. Also on these days, the Taurus-Sun trine Saturn (May 18) and square Neptune (May 19). The combination of all these alignments offer a chance to see the reality (Saturn) of our situations/relationships/financial status; hope (Neptune) and optimism (Jupiter) as we brainstorm ideas (Gemini) on how to move forward and improve our situation (Uranus).
How will this Venus transit influence your birth chart? Look to the natal house/s ruled by Gemini. Match the signs with the house cusps on your birth chart. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the Gemini zodiac sign on your birth chart then click here for a brief explanation.

For those without a birth chart, you may use your Sun sign or Rising/Ascendant sign, if you know it. Look for your Sun and Rising signs below then click here for a brief explanation of Venus transiting those houses.
  • Aries-Sun or Aries Rising ~ 3rd House
  • Taurus-Sun or Taurus Rising ~ 2nd House
  • Gemini-Sun or Gemini-Rising ~ 1st House
  • Cancer-Sun or Cancer-Rising ~ 12th House
  • Leo-Sun or Leo-Rising ~ 11th House
  • Virgo-Sun or Virgo-Rising ~ 10th House
  • Libra-Sun or Libra-Rising ~ 9th House
  • Scorpio-Sun or Scorpio-Rising ~ 8th House
  • Sagittarius-Sun or Sagittarius-Rising ~ 7th House
  • Capricorn-Sun or Capricorn-Rising ~ 6th House
  • Aquarius-Sun or Aquarius-Rising ~ 5th House
  • Pisces-Sun or Pisces-Rising ~ 4th House

What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. The style/manner they will use get that job done is defined by the zodiac sign they occupy. Where in our life the job gets done is determined by the house the planet occupies/transits. So, when Mars (aggression) is in Aries (bold), he is more assertive than when he is in Cancer (sensitive). When traveling through the 10th house (professional life), he may bring his confidence and motivation in matters relating to our career. While in the 11th house (friendships), we may be more inclined to having our social calendar packed with activities. Having the foresight for what may be coming up or receiving confirmation on what may be happening now are ways astrology can be beneficial ... as above, so below.

LuvScopes Posted! ~ April 23 to 25, 2010

The weekend may be less about romance and more about the commitment and hard work required in relationships. Venus, the planet of love, gets seriously busy as she spends her last days in earthy, practical Taurus. All weekend, she aligns with Neptune (dreams), Saturn (reality) and Chiron (healing) before finally leaving Taurus and entering social, friendly Gemini very early Sunday morning (Saturday night for some). As Venus makes her rounds, retrograde-Mercury (communication) rehashes his conflict with Mars (aggression) from earlier this month. All the while the Sun (conscious will) probes retrograde-Pluto (probing) to give up hidden information.

WeeklyScopes ~ April 19 to 25, 2010

Hello friends and readers,

I've had some trouble again posting at the SatoriNation.com site. I'm not completely sure if it will post and post on time. So, this week's horoscopes are pasted below. I guess that's what I get for trying to post right before a Mercury retrograde :)

Have a great week, everyone.

Blessings,

WeeklyScopes ~ April 19 to 25
Keeping It Together

* Days and times reflect North America EST

False starts. Abrupt endings. Slower process. Misunderstandings. All to be expected with Mercury (thought/communication) still acclimating himself as he gets settled into his retrograde state (introspective). The ill-fated, frustrating alignment between the Aries-Sun (conscious will) and Saturn (reality/restrictions), now back in Virgo, doesn't help matters as we begin the week.

Tuesday marks a big shift in celestial energies as both the Sun and Chiron (wounds/healing) change signs. The Sun enters Taurus and stays there for four weeks, a good time solidify plans and/or take well thought out steps toward goals. Chiron enters Pisces, where he remains until November; Chiron last transit in Pisces was during the 1960s.

Midweek quiets down a bit. As the weekend approaches and into the weekend, Venus (relationships/finances) gets busy making her rounds linking up to Neptune (insight/dreams), Uranus (awakening/surprises) and Saturn before leaving Taurus and entering Gemini on Sunday. Venus' move into Gemini should help lighten the serious tone created by the alignments between Mercury & Mars (assertion/aggression) and the Sun & Pluto (endings/purging).

ARIES ~ Finances may be a focus this week with Mercury retrograde in your income house. There may be delays in receiving money that is due to you or extra obstacles in finalizing agreements to a job contract, especially for those self-employed. Venus' move to Gemini at the end of the week may provide relief next week. So, be patient and stay positive.

TAURUS ~ Just let it roll off your back this week. Mercury retrograde in your sign may get frustrating as communications go haywire and delays cause a domino effect of troublesome issues. Don't let anything or anyone break your stride. Just take one step forward as you are able to.

GEMINI ~ With three planets now retrograde and each falling into the part of your chart that governs emotions/intuition, you are being urged to listen to your intuitive self more than usual. As a cerebral sign, logic is your preferred method. Be open, however, to heighten your heart and mind. Listen to that soft voice whispering to you in your quietest moments.

CANCER ~ Feel like you're on a treadmill? You're moving. You're running. Yet, you remain in the same spot. This week might feel a little or a lot like that, especially within your friendships. You're talking and no one is listening. But you keep getting asked for your opinion. Don't be frustrated and don't feel obligated to keep repeating yourself.

LEO ~ The future is not set and can still be molded, despite how much you've got it figured out. Mercury retrograde in your future goals house may post extra challenges at work this week but over the next three weeks, take the time to reflect upon what you now desire for your life. Where do you see yourself a year from now? What do you want for yourself?

VIRGO ~ As your ruler, Mercury, retrogrades in your travel house, make huge allowances for travel delays. Chiron also enters your relationships house this week and may cause communication with those significant to you an extra challenge this week. Keep tempers cool and frustration levels in check if you expect to arrive at decisions or gain results.

LIBRA ~ What's been holding you back? Family? The past? Your own psyche? The next few weeks is about purging yourself of what's got you stuck. You've let go of a lot already. This is just squeezing out the last few bits. So, take a deep breath and allow retrograde planets, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto, to help you delve deeper and scrape off what still festers.

SCORPIO ~ Are others looking at you as if you're speaking a foreign language? Or perhaps, it is you that thinks no one is making sense. Relationships may, indeed, be troublesome this week. Understanding what's being communicated is key. It may help to break down each idea or portion of the topic being discussed. Understand the pieces to see the bigger picture.

SAGITTARIUS ~ Deja vu? Huh? Didn't that happen already? Like, yesterday? Hmm... Events, issues, situations within the workplace may seem like a bad dream you keep re-living over and over, day after day. Don't let them see you sweat. Do what must be done … again and remember that, 'this, too, shall pass' eventually :)

CAPRICORN ~ Drama with your other half and/or children might be where your greatest challenges are this week. With Chiron entering your house of thought, you're also being urged to make some changes in how you think/process information and in your communication, all together. Changing something that's been the norm for most, if not all, of your life is truly difficult. It's the effort in trying that counts.

AQUARIUS ~ Are you a little stumped? Pretend you're in school, taking an exam and you're stuck at one question. Follow the usual protocol, move on the next question and return to where you got stuck after having finished the entire exam. If you are fighting for something too hard or putting too much energy into one thing this week, don't push it. There is time to get to it later. Be conservative in choosing where you exert efforts this week.

PISCES ~ Chiron joins Jupiter in your sign this week. With Mercury also retrograde in your house of thought, you may find your mind wandering in places you haven't visited in a while or perhaps have never set foot in. Welcome whatever and wherever you may find yourself in. In the real world, however, be aware of who or what may give you difficulty this week even if you don't know the why. This awareness will help carry you through the week.

Chiron in Pisces ~ April 20, 2010 to February 2019

Illustation credit & copyright to Yusef Abonamah

After being in Aquarius since 2005, Chiron joins both Jupiter and Uranus and gets his hooves wet in Piscean waters on April 20, 2010 at 2:37 a.m. EDT (April 19 at 11:37 p.m. PDT). He'll retrograde on June 4 then return to Aquarius on July 20, before re-entering Pisces on February 8, 2011 to settle in until April 2018 then again, from September 2018 to February 2019.

In Greek mythology, Chiron was the centaur (half man, half horse) son of Greek god Cronus. He was knowledgeable in the healing arts and mentored Greek heros like Hercules, Jason and Achilles. Unlike most centaurs who are known for their impetuousness and hot-headedness, Chiron was wise and patient. One day, he was accidentally wounded by Hercules, and despite his extensive medical knowledge, he could not heal his own wound. Being immortal, he endured great pain until he exchanged his life to free Prometheus from his suffering and die in his place.

In astrology, Chiron is the wounded healer, representing our wounds -- may they be physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual or otherwise -- and our healing -- may it be through being nursed back to a physically healthy state, releasing painful memories, letting go of negativity or restoring our faith. For 5 years, Chiron's transit in Aquarius focused on "healing" social structures through individual humanitarian efforts coming together to make an impact despite the differences in our races, cultures, belief systems, etc.

Aquarius governs innovation so it's not surprising technology was involved in carrying out Chiron's goals. On the internet alone, long established charitable organizations (i.e. mercycorps.org, greatergood.com) along with newly formed agencies (i.e. kiva.org, thepetitionsite.com) created means for donating, participating and making a difference as easy as clicking keys on a computer. Now, mobile phone apps are coming out so cell phone subscribers can also participate easily, sometimes at no cost to the user (i.e. causeworld.com).

In Pisces, Chiron's focus goes beyond social structures. There are no boundaries with Pisces. Pisces governs the realm of the unseen -- mysticism, spirituality, the psyche, dreams, psychic abilities, compassion, sacrificial love, collective consciousness, interconnectedness, escapism, abuse, phobias, mental problems and hospitals/mental institutions.

Chiron's transit in Pisces may result in an even greater need to be part of the whole; more people may see the benefit of cultivating their spiritual self (not necessarily religious); those addicted to alcohol or other substances may finally be able to kick the habit by being able to confront their own demons; those who were abused in any way as children or adults may finally be able to come to terms with their reality and release the grip the abuse may have had all these years; alternative forms of healing may become even more popular as these methods become more credible and mainstream; and/or people may become more motivated to spread kindness, be charitable and helpful to others. These are some of what we might encounter in the next nine years. Discovering or unearthing what's been hidden or untapped through seeking deeply within to find the much needed release/healing. Anything goes. There are no boundaries with Pisces, which is part of the wounding for someone who may have their natal Chiron in Pisces -- the inability to distinguish the self from others/the group make it difficult to know when to say 'no'.

Those born between 1960 and 1969 (March-August 1960; January 1961-April 1968; October 1968-January 1969) may be going through your Chiron Return between 2010 and 2019. Chiron Return represents healing deeply rooted wounds that only you can heal for yourself -- no medicine, physician or any other kind of healer can do it for you. It is through rehashing old memories, remembering/re-experiencing the pain, and finally making peace with them that release and healing may be achieved. Though the process itself is painful and taxing, you deal with it in your own pace and in your own way. It's important to remember to be kind to yourself during this process. What has hardened/frozen over the years softens during this return, as you come to terms with what was, what couldn't be, what hurt. Will you be going through your Chiron Return? Gain insight with a reading. Request a quote.

The last time Chiron transit Pisces was approximately 1960 to 1969. Distinguished astrologer, Eric Francis, wrote an article on Chiron in Pisces in the sixties which might be of interest.

Regardless of where your natal Chiron placement is or what your Sun sign may be, this Chiron transit in Pisces may have a subtle impact that only upon reflection later can the full influence be gauged. Early born mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, especially Pisces) and water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) may feel this transit's influence stronger earlier on. To find out how his transit might influence you, look to the Pisces-ruled house/s in your birth chart or request a quote for a customized reading. As with any transit, the key is to work with the energy no matter the difficulty or what painful truths are unmasked and be compassionate to yourself as you go through the process of healing. And when the time comes, be ready and willing to accept the pain that comes with the loss of the past.

Saturn-rx Oppose Uranus ~ April 26, 2010

The fourth of five oppositions between Saturn and Uranus perfect again on April 26. Its first occurrence was on November 4, 2008, then twice last year on February 5 and September 15, 2009. Their final opposition will be on July 26, 2010 and will be in cardinal signs (Saturn in Libra and Uranus in Aries). Their alignment on April 26 is the last opposition between Virgo (Saturn) and Pisces (Uranus).

This push-pull tension between Saturn and Uranus represents the old (Saturn) versus the new (Uranus) -- the fight between holding on to what has been and abandoning these old ways for newer methods that reflect the present and moving towards the future.

Saturn returned to Virgo earlier this month. With that, he moves closer to opposing Uranus again, just as Uranus' transit in Pisces draws to a close. Their meeting on April 26 occurs at 28 degrees of Virgo and Pisces. Those born within 3 days of March 18 and September 20 or those with natal planets/house angles on or around 28 degrees of mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) may feel the affects of this opposition stronger than others.

Seeking harmony between the old ways and newer methods remain the focus of this Saturn-Uranus opposition, much like the photo I've chosen for this post that shows the contrast between the new and old architecture co-existing (Avenida Florida, Buenos Aires, Argentina). While we remain under the umbrella of the Saturn-Pluto square and with the Cardinal T-Square and Cross coming up this summer, there is no doubt that change -- life-altering, uprooting kind/s of change -- is inevitable. It's simply a matter of whether or not we'll fight it, fear it, welcome it, or work with it.

Back to astrology basics ... Saturn represents structure, proven methods, realities, restrictions, commitment, hard work. Uranus represents radical change with the goal of improvement for the masses, unconventionality, unique solutions to common or existing issues, a new look at an old problem. An opposition is a tense, challenging, hard energy that seeks and requires balance between the planets involved which, in this case, are Saturn and Uranus. What has been the norm is questioned. Is this established norm still functioning effectively? Does it still represent the good of the whole?

Issues that may have begun, were definitively decided upon, or became concrete around September 15, 2009 (or maybe even as far back as November 4, 2008) might be revisited now. Or perhaps, events now may be reminiscent to those periods even if they aren't directly linked. With Saturn, Pluto and Mercury all retrograde, this meeting with Saturn and Uranus is a time to take stock on where things stand and where to go from here -- how much of what's occurred are in sync with what your plans might have originally been? how off are you? is the reason for the gap valid? perhaps, on the road to moving forward and making changes, you took turns or were led to places you didn't expect to venture into. are you at peace with being there/here now? or do you feel it's time to leave the detour and return to your original course? or maybe, you're mulling over a completely different course ...

As a country, our last presidential election that fell on November 4, 2008 was also when this opposition perfected for the first time. I can't find a better example of the energy represented by this opposition between Saturn and Uranus than the result of that election day when Barack Obama won the Presidency -- breaking away (Uranus) from the what has long been established (Saturn).

However, for me, the September 15, 2009 opposition was the stronger force of change for me. As a late-decan Virgo-rising, that September Saturn-Uranus opposition produced the combination of conjunctions, oppositions, and squares to my natal Pluto and house angles followed by transiting Saturn finally crossing over and entering my 1st house (self, potential). Before 2009 ended, I made consecutive choices that led to completely overhauling my life, internally as well as externally.
This time around, Saturn and Uranus' alignment touches my Neptune (what's hidden) adding to Pluto (purging) currently opposing my Sun (conscious will); and by summertime, Saturn (reality) will square (struggle with) my Sun, intensifying the existing Pluto opposition. All the while, Neptune squares my Neptune (ouch). So basically, all that really means is that I remain in the midst of this haze of change. There's never a day without a challenge. Some are more difficult than others. Most are welcome but a few make me want to crawl inside my Cancer-Sun's shell and wait for worst to pass :) But "showing up" is what matters, right? Change doesn't happen overnight. It's a process. Committing and re-committing to following through with what's been started and continuing the course are what creates the new foundation for the changes that are being established.

The World Has Changed:
Wake up & smell
The possibility.

...

The world has changed:
Don't let
Yourself
Remain
Asleep
To
It.

Sun in Taurus ~ April 20 to May 20, 2010

Spontaneity, impetuousness, be gone. The Sun steadies in Taurus on April 20 and stays until May 20, where slow but sure trumps quick and risky :) In Aries, the Sun is bold, confident, direct, quick-thinking, quick-acting and quick-tempered. In Taurus, the Sun slows down, steps back, makes considerations, and assesses risk vs. gain with the timing involved. There is no rushing Taurean energy. Taurus moves into action when Taurus is good and ready :)

Things may sllloooooowww down even more with Mercury retrograde for part of the Sun's transit in Taurus, especially with two other planets already retrograde -- Saturn and Pluto. This year, in general, has been slow to start with Mars retrograde as we welcomed 2010 and lasting until mid-March. The Sun (March 20 to April 20) and Mercury (March 17 to April 2) moving into Aries as Mars began to move direct again (March 10) gave us a nice period to jump start what may have been stalled or get answers on what we may have been waiting on. Now, Mercury retrogrades in Taurus on April 18 until May 11, giving us another period of slowed energy. If it seems like I'm overusing the word slow, it's intentional. I'm not an impatient person, yet all this "slower" energy has really been trying for me. So, if anyone else out there shares my frustration, prepare yourself, as I also prepare myself, to accept things moving even slower. Let's make use of the energy instead of becoming too annoyed with it or give in to it by being lazy. I digress :)

Looking at the sky from a bigger picture, this slowed period can best be used for review, planning, tying up loose ends or cutting ties. Uranus enters Aries next month and will be at Aries Point through the summer before retrograding and re-entering Pisces mid-August. While at Aries Point, Uranus will join Saturn-Pluto and their lingering square with each other to form a Grand Cross with Jupiter and the Eclipsed Cancer-Moon on June 26, then a Cardinal T-Square late July (which also completes the Saturn-Uranus opposition that began November 2008) and finally, a Cardinal Grand Cross early August. What could all this possibly mean? Well, I'm hoping to write a more lengthy post on the subject, but for now, it pretty much means -- you best know what it is you want, what direction you want to move towards, what actions you want to take, what it is that motivates you to do or want to do these things. The energy this summer is tense, impatient, dynamic and requires action, movement, change. If you are prepared, you will be able to grab the reins, ride your way into the direction you want and get a jump start on things, launch something you've been working on or build upon what you've already got going. If you are unprepared, however, you may get caught by its strength and be forced to take action or make major decisions but with the feeling of being under duress. You end up reacting to situations instead of being in control of the actions/decisions taken.

So, I'm going to be working extra hard shifting my perspective and welcoming this period of reflection and review to create, concretize or revise plans, as necessary. From April 18 to May 11, Mercury joins Saturn (retrograde until May 30) and Pluto (retrograde until September 14) in this introspective state/planning mode. How will you make use of the Sun's transit in Taurus from April 20 to May 20?

While in Taurus, the Sun will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect EST [NYC] time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):
  • April 20 ~ Chiron enters Pisces. Another shift in the sky occurs. Chiron, the wounded healer, steps into Pisces for the first time since the sixties. He has been in Aquarius since 2005. This is a major shift of energy in the heavens with subtle but undeniable influence on us earthlings.
  • April 25 ~ Sun trine Pluto-rx. Strong ability for concentration. In earth signs, practicality, decisions based on reason, digging for answers/truth by finding proof and going forward with measured steps.
  • April 28 ~ Sun conjunct Mercury and Full Moon in Scorpio at 8:19 a.m. EST.
  • May 4 ~ Sun square Mars. Ouch. Watch tempers. Avoid decisions due to frustration or impatience. Be mindful of the ego. Consider collaboration to arrive at results. Be ready to accept it if results are not what's desired.
  • May 13 ~ New Moon in Taurus at 9:04 p.m. EST.
  • May 17 and 18 ~ Sun sextile Jupiter and trine Saturn-rx. With Venus also square Jupiter and Saturn on these days, allow the Sun's more agreeable links with Jupiter and Saturn to lighten moods and have enough optimism to make solid decisions or actions.

We need all the help we can get this weekend with Mercury stationing in preparation for retrograde movement early Sunday (late Saturday for some). The heavens must agree and have decided to be kind. All weekend, we have happy alignments between Venus-Jupiter (love and optimism) and the Sun-Neptune (the ego and hopefulness) to help soften the blow.

Mercury Retrograde ~ April 17/18 to May 11, 2010

Mercury takes a little break, slows down and retrogrades. The last time he took a breather was December 2009 and into early January 2010, when Mars was also retrograde. This time, Mercury joins Saturn and Pluto, as he takes three weeks for reflection while transiting Taurus.

Mercury is retrograde from April 18 at 12:06 a.m. EDT (April 17 at 9:06 p.m. PDT) until May 11 at 6:27 p.m. EDT. The complete retrograde cycle including the shadow period is April 4 to May 28 and occurs entirely in Taurus, retracing his steps starting at 13 degrees and back to 2 degrees.

By nature, Taurus is already a "slower" to act zodiac sign. Taurean energy prefers to be completely sure before making any final assessments or definitive actions and can be unyielding when it comes to any change (tangible or intangible). Taurus is ready, when he/she's ready and refuses to be rushed in any way. Once Taurus is ready, however, his/her energy is unstoppable. Taurean energy is persistent, determined and because everything has been well thought out and planned, each measured step is bound for success.

This retrograde period is a time for reflection and planning to get our affairs in order. For those of us with natal Mercury or Sun in air or fire signs, Mercury's retrograde period may be a painstakingly sloooooow period. It's important, however, to avoid impatience and frustration due to impatience while Mercury is introspective in Taurus; and this goes for everyone, no matter what your natal planetary placements are. To truly make use of this period, we must honor Taurean energy and embrace its traits as something that we can learn from and definitely benefit from. When Taurus takes a step or decides to a step, its goal is longevity, permanence and stability. Now, where in our life might we have a need for that?

Those with natal planets and/or house angles between 2 to 13 degrees of fixed or earth signs may feel the effects of this retrograde period more strongly than others.

As I've previously posted for past Mercury retrograde periods:
Following the standard with any retrograde planet, this Mercury retrograde period is a time for the prefix "re" -- reflect, rethink, re-plan, review, retool, reorganize, redefine, re-examine, rewrite, reread, repair. So reassess, as necessary and as much as you want, but avoid starting new projects, signing any contracts, or entering into any major agreements or commitments. It's easy to overlook details or neglect to include information pertinent to the terms. A change of mind is also common. If you must enter into an agreement during the retrograde period, it is important to re-read all fine print, have another set of eyes go over it, and get all your questions answered before completing the transaction.

This period does not need to be daunting and feared or cause you to suspend living your life in any way. Simply make allowances and/or preemptive actions to minimize the unavoidable retrograde effects. Do not underestimate the frustration, inconvenience, and havoc a Mercury retrograde can produce, however.

Mercury rules mental processes, communication, commerce, trade and affects all of these plus travel and electronics. Allow for delays, especially on the station days
[which, for this current period, are April 17/18 and May 11]. Expect miscommunication so, ensure that all details are understood. Ask detailed questions to prevent misunderstandings. Wait until the retrograde period is over before buying a new computer, mp3 player, cell phone, or any other electronic items. If this is unavoidable, make sure the return/exchange/refund policy coverage is extensive enough that the purchased item can be returned/exchanged should it requires repair or replacement later. Consider buying the extra warranty offered, if the item is a costly one.

For me, as a Virgo-rising, this entire transit occurs in my natal 8th house (letting go) even if Taurus is the ruler of my 9th house (expansion); as a Cancer-Sun, the retrograde falls in my solar 11th house (friendships). During the full retrograde cycle, Mercury will sextile my North Node (life path), then Sun (potential) and square my Venus (relationships). Over the past 12 months, I've made some major life-altering decisions. In the process, I've had to release a lot of what was in order for me to focus on what is and what can be. With this Mercury retrograde happening in my 8th house, Saturn's retrograde in my natal 1st house (self/potential) and Pluto in my natal 4th (the past) while oppose my Sun, I can't help but feel the universe is telling me that there are still things I am holding on to that I must purge before being able to completely move forward. With the 4th house involved, these may be deeply-rooted, so deep I really will need to delve farther and deeper than I've gone before to ferret them out since I may not be conscious of what they are. Or I may be conscious of them but unwilling to let them go. No matter which it is, I am now offered three weeks to reflect, review, repair, release and renew parts of myself.

How might Mercury's direction change influence your life? Look to the Taurus-ruled house and match the sign and 2 to 13 degrees with house cusps on your birth chart. WeeklyScopes ~ April 12 to 18, 2010

* Days and times reflect North America EDT

Saturn's (reality) frustration with Chiron (wounds) begins the week. Saturn has recently returned to the exacting sign of Virgo. Existing, unresolved or forgotten issues of old may resurface or be triggered early this week. The need to (over)analyze is great but the key is adjustment … Get it out of your head and commit to doing something that releases/lets go of it.

By mid-week, the New Moon in Aries offers up a renewal as the Moon's cycle begins again which is perfect timing to pick up from Saturn and Chiron's fading influence. As the weekend approaches, Venus (relationships) and Jupiter (happiness) are in harmony, along with the Sun (conscious will) and Neptune (dreams). Their friendly alliances benefit us all as Mercury (communication) stations and prepares for retrograde motion on Sunday EDT (Saturday for PDT).

As the weekend closes and the new week begins, be mindful of Mercury's change of pace and direction. Make allowances for delays and misunderstandings, especially in the days approaching the weekend. Hastiness results in mistakes that cause unnecessary distress for all parties involved. Mercury is retrograde from April 17/18 until May 11.

ARIES ~ Take advantage of the New Moon in your sign. Initiate something you've been sitting on for a while or re-ignite the excitement over something that's gone stale. This summer, Uranus enters your sign. You can achieve great things but you must first be sure of the direction you want to take. Beginning your preparation this week is a wise course of action. If actually taking action this week, opt to do it before the weekend begins.

TAURUS ~ Face up to your fears. Delve deep into your own psyche to get to the root of what blocks you from acting upon your true desires. See your true worth and the beauty that lies within the person that you are. In the process, realize that you fear most will not actually be the end of everything, but the end of something necessary. Forward movement may be slow going. No worries. Take your time. Stay within a comfortable pace. Take one sure step at a time.

GEMINI ~ Nearly every week I talk about the ending of something long-standing for you. This process continues this week. Be patient just a little while longer. Remember that this unpleasant situation did not develop overnight so, getting through it properly will also be a process. Something in the past still grips you or perhaps it's just that this has been such a part of your life that you are unsure how to extricate yourself from it. There is also a chance that there are still events beyond your control that have yet to occur, and you are in a “waiting” mode. Whichever it may be, remain patient and positive. Seek comfort or counsel with trusted friends for the New Moon shines upon your house of friendships.

CANCER ~ Where are you really want to go? What do you really want to do? Stripped of all your attachments and obligations, what does the self dream of? Consider that satisfying this creates the joy in your life that you've been missing. Further consider that your happiness and success extend to benefitting those who are significant in your life. Although this goal may not be something attainable within a week, taking one or two or three steps toward its achievement will bring you that much closer to what you seek. The New Moon in your future goals house encourages you to take a step in the right direction.

LEO ~ Releasing is healing. Letting go is freeing. Come to terms with that which causes you great pain or concern. Cutting emotional, mental or physical ties with another or within your involvement in a situation may be extreme but think of what holding on has done to you thus far. How do you make peace with this is another question. You might be willing to let go but the approach may elude you. Determine the “why” of what's motivated you to hold on for all this time -- happy memories, fear of loss, avoidance of seeing the truth, or whatever it may be. When you completely know the “why” or “whys”, then you are able to make the decisions or take the action you'll need to.

VIRGO ~ Time to grow up and grow out of this comfortable state of inaction. Your ability to adapt is sometimes a crutch that keeps your from grabbing the wheel and driving the vehicle of your life toward a planned and desired destination. Reacting has become the norm. It's now time to make choices, commit to those choices and begin to plan the steps you'll need to take. You are the master of your own destiny. Your success benefits you, as well as those you hold dear. So, no more reacting or holding back from action, your goals may still be changing/forming, but awareness that you want more is the first step.

LIBRA ~ Saturn left your sign last week. But from the time Saturn entered your sign last fall, he's been relentlessly showing you what your weaknesses are and how this reflects upon your ability to relate with others. You've been taking a whipping, especially those who are early-born Librans. This week, the New Moon illuminates your house of partnerships. Take what you've learned from Saturn about yourself and apply them as you interact with others, especially within your significant relationships. You may be a bit beaten and bruised by Saturn but you are stronger for it!

SCORPIO ~ Forgiveness is freeing -- to the heart as well as the soul. Forgiving, however, doesn't necessarily mean forgetting or becoming “blind” to the reality of situation/s. Sometimes, with forgiveness, something “dies” inside and what was can no longer be. That loss is painful but facing it and working through it make way toward a better place. As with any loss, however, remember to mourn it properly -- be it the loss of a significant relationship, of the self you no longer are, of financial security, or the status you once had, etc. Forgive another. Forgive the self. Forgive and find release. You are making room in your life for the present and the future.

SAGITTARIUS ~ Sometimes being between a rock and a hard place is just what's needed to push up and out of a rut or situation. Fight back. Fight for love or those you love. Push through creative blockages. Restore the enjoyment of simple pleasures in your life. Reconnect with your inner child and envision your situation from that point of view. Perhaps it's through a child's eyes that you'll “see” what you need to see to get out of the space you find yourself in now. Breathe in the New Moon blessings and claim your rebirth.

CAPRICORN ~ Does it seem like you've been banging your head against a wall or that you've been talking to a brick wall? It could be because you've been handling the same problem with the same approach over and over. There is something to be said about structure and proven methods. There is also something to be said about learning from experience and the ability to adapt enough to alter what's no longer effective. Change is a constant in life. Fighting change and sticking with something antiquated just causes headaches.

AQUARIUS ~ It's ok to have a change of mind or heart, especially if regarding an existing situation. The New Moon casts its light upon your house of thought and communication. Perhaps, you are now awakened to information you didn't previously have or somehow missed. Maybe you weren't mentally or emotionally ready for that insight before. No matter what it is, allow yourself to change your mind or heart without judgements.

PISCES ~ The New Moon in your income house while Jupiter is in your sign is a strong combination for changing your financial situation. As Mercury retrogrades in your house of thought for the next three weeks, reflect upon what would really change your situation. Think BIG. Jupiter in your sign dares you. Now, bring that down in practical measures. Make a list, if necessary, to help you concretize your thoughts. Determine a timeline and make sure to allow for wiggle room because life is full of surprises.

New Moon in Aries ~ April 14, 2010

The New Moon in Aries occurs on April 14 at 8:29 a.m. EDT. New Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Aries qualities (enterprising, independent, confident, assertive) and 1st house themes (the self, our potential, conscious will).

This Aries-New Moon (heart & soul) is in easy, friendly alignments with Neptune (hope) and Chiron (healing). The Arien energy is bold, ready for action, and easily enthused with the notion of new ventures. This New Moon phase is action-oriented. Is there something that you'd like initiated? A new project? A new relationship or re-igniting an old one? A new sense of personal freedom? Re-inventing the self? As we forge ahead with renewed vigor (New Moon in Aries), we must first release the past (Chiron) before we can truly be excited to dream or hope of what's to come (Neptune).

Elsewhere in the sky, Saturn (old) and Uranus (new) grow closer to perfecting their opposition (need for balance) which culminates the week on April 26. This alignment between Saturn and Uranus may shine upon events or issues from this past September (2009), when they were last opposite each other. Additionally, Aries is natively ruled by Mars, who is currently retracing the steps he last revisited early February (2010) and first embarked upon late October (2009). For some of us, this New Moon may rehash issues or events from last autumn. We are urged to finally let go of old ways of thinking or doing things; release toxic relationships; forgive the self or others; come to terms with harsh realities; surrender instead of continuing to fight progress; or whatever it may be that holds back the self from fully moving forward.

This new moon occurs at 25 degrees of Aries. Those born within 3 days of April 14 or October 18; or have planets/house angles around 25 degrees of cardinal signs may feel the effects of this new moon stronger than most.

For me, as a Virgo-rising, this New Moon opposes my Jupiter and natal 2nd house cusp (income), sextiles my Mercury (thought) and Midheaven (career/goals), falls right on the edge of my natal 7th house (partnerships) and conjuncts my natal 8th house (debt); and as a Cancer-Sun, it falls in my solar 10th house (career/goals). This New Moon affects my money and career houses. With the opposition to my Jupiter & 2nd house cusp, I must be mindful of overestimation or overoptimism. The sextile to my Mercury and Midheaven can help me brainstorm/create opportunities for work, perhaps ideas that I have not come up with before or implementing plans I've been mulling over. There may also be an opportunity for something collaborative, a partnership.

How will this new moon influence your life? Look to the natal house/s this new moon will occupy in your birth chart. Match the sign and degree to the sign on the house cusp/s. Use the list below to identify the Aries zodiac sign then click here to read about the New Moon in Houses.

LuvScopes Posted! ~ April 9 to 11, 2010

Friday night starts off with a quiet void of course Moon until she slips into romantic, loving Pisces at 9:48 p.m. EST. There's love and kindness in the air, despite a little difference of opinion between Mars, who is courageous in Leo, and Pluto, who is authoritative in Capricorn. Neither are the type to back down. Also, Mars may be remembering events/issues from Mid-February as he retrace his steps from that period, and Pluto is still getting acclimated to his recently retrograde state. This weekend, leave the past in the past, unless rehashing things will bring the necessary resolution. Yield to the compassion and ideals of the Pisces-Moon for insight and understanding.

WeeklyScopes ~ April 5 to 11, 2010
Shifting Gears

Mercury (thought) starts off the week busy arguing with Mars (aggression), while being agreeable with Pluto (transformation). Our actions may not necessarily reflect what's on our minds or what we've originally planned. What's truly behind the motivations for our actions? What's the reason behind deviating from the plan? Have integrities been compromised?

Saturn Returns to Virgo ~ April 7 to July 21, 2010

As he remains in retrograde motion, Saturn steps back into Virgo from April 7 to July 21 for a last look until another 27 years. During part of this period when he returns to Virgo, he is joined by Mercury and Pluto, who are also retrograde and introspective (Mercury - April 18 to May 11; Pluto - April 6 to September 14). Expect for an even deeper look within our core, as three planets turn their focus inward.

While in Virgo, Saturn retraces his steps from this past October 2009. Issues or events on or around that period may resurface while Saturn revisits Virgo. This does not need to be a period full of dread. It is simply an opportunity to resolve open issues, to take a final assessment of where things stand, or to reflect upon where/how things were then compared to now.

Saturn is the taskmaster of the zodiac, whose job is to teach us our life lessons as he transits through each sign of the zodiac. Although, he expects nothing less than commitment and hard work, he also believes in rewarding sincere efforts. It is also in our best interest to yield to what he teaches us, for what we do not bring forth to face head on comes back to us later as fate.

No matter where we are in life or how we've lived thus far, Saturn's transit in Virgo may have caused us or forced us to take a look at our health more seriously and change our lifestyle -- may it be diet/exercise or grooming or managing stress levels, etc. Some of us who tend to pick at the minutia of every, boring detail may have realized that sometimes seeing the bigger picture casts a light upon which details are truly important to deal with; this, in turn, help us worry less. Others may have learned the opposite -- commitment to a project or the bigger picture also means dedication to the many steps that must be taken to realize the ultimate goal; this gives our endeavors context and feasibility. There are also those of us who may have grown to the idea of service -- may it be caring for a family member or volunteering or simply becoming more involved in helping others out. The ones who may have shunned the idea of "routine" may have learned to find comfort and grounding in it during Saturn in Virgo.

Whatever your situation may have been regarding Saturn's transit in Virgo, honor these next few months by congratulating yourself for having learned your Saturn in Virgo lessons. If you have chosen to avoid or escape from what you know you needed to commit to and tackle, it's never too late to start making improvements upon the quality of your life. Saturn's lessons are never easy, but they are worth while with lifelong rewards for the hard work.

Saturn's return to Virgo occurs from 29 degrees back to 27 degrees. Late-born Virgos (September 19 to 24), third decan Virgo-risings or those with natal planets/house angles around 27 to 29 degrees of mutable signs may feel the effects of this transit more strongly than others. For all Virgos or Virgo-risings, this may be a very personal period where you reflect upon the major changes or life-altering decisions you've made within your self and your life's situations while Saturn was in your sign, beginning September 2007. For those who had their Saturn Return, kudos for having survived :) Take the next few months to tie up loose ends and make sure to give yourself credit for having worked out your return.

While Saturn is back in Virgo, Saturn will once again oppose Uranus on April 26, 2010. This will be the fourth of five occasions that Saturn and Uranus will perfect their opposition. This will also be the last opposition in Virgo-Pisces.

Saturn returns to Virgo on April 7 at 2:51 p.m. EST and re-enters Libra on July 21 at 11:10 a.m. EST, where he will remain until October 5, 2012. Saturn changes direction and begins forward movement on May 30, 2010 and will not retrograde again until January 2011.

For me, I am one of those third decan Virgo-risings with my natal Ascendant at 26 degrees of Virgo. Saturn's return to Virgo will come close to touching my ascendant and remind me of all the changes that I've made since last fall, since 2007 -- which proved to be improvements and which were a waste of my time but taught me lessons. The changes I've made helped bring me closer to my true self and living a life truer to what motivates me. From this perspective, it doesn't seem like I've made significant changes. I'm still just working with the same work ethic. I'm still a multi-tasker whose mind can't be still. I'm still equally silly and serious :) The difference is that now I'm doing something that I find true joy in and that I believe in. From that perspective, I have to take a deep breath because it's kind of big and scary to see all that's left to do, to master, to create, but also to enjoy.
