Saturn Direct ~ May 16, 2009

Saturn stations today in preparation for moving forward. Having been in retrograde motion since December 31, 2008, he has yet to be in direct motion in 2009. Now, he'll be forward moving for the rest of the year!

Saturn, Mr. Stone Cold Reality, represents our limitations, boundaries, obligations, responsibilities, challenges, and the hard work and perseverance required for success in endeavors. No wonder he gets a bad rap! In Virgo, he is analytical, meticulous, a perfectionist, a list maker, critical, nervous, practical, and adaptable. While in retrograde motion, we may have made lists upon lists (mentally or otherwise) of things to do, things to discard, people to reconnect with, or making time for the little but rewarding things in life. We may have found that although there was much to do, and it was clear what needs to be done, there was actually little action being made ... maybe we got stuck (retrograde) in the details (Virgo), maybe last month's Venus retrograde made relating to others difficult, or maybe the current Mercury retrograde hampered communications. Whatever the reasons may have been, be prepared to get things going again. Those lists upon lists made during Saturn's retrograde period will begin to produce action, completion of projects begun, and will provide as the perfect set of steps to take to get things done. Success is imminent, but be committed to the work required in achieving goals.

On September 15, Saturn will oppose Uranus for the third time.
The complete list of Saturn-Uranus Exact Opposition dates:

Saturn is currently at 15 degrees in Virgo and rules Capricorn and co-rules Aquarius. What houses in your natal chart does Saturn rule? Personally, as a Virgo-rising, Saturn rules my 1st (self/vitality) and 6th (work/health) houses and currently travels through my 12th (subconscious) and 5th (pleasure) houses. He has definitely put a damper on fun for me! More importantly, during the retrograde period he's been cleaning the closet of my subconscious (12th) and revealing all that has been hidden from me (by my own self included). To date, for me, there has been no road rougher or more enlightened than the psychological torture of uncovering all that I've avoided, rejected, unwanted about myself and my life, both past and present :) When Saturn finally enters my 1st house later this year, all that I've learned in the unseen plane will be manifested in my seen world; and although there will still be challenges in the 1st and 6th houses, I will be better equipped to handle them. Saturn is developing within me a wiser, more enlightened psychological self.

Check your birth chart and scroll down below to match the degree and sign to see which house he is currently visiting.

If you don't have a birth chart, but know your Rising/Ascendant sign or you may use your Sun sign to match the house Saturn is visiting (although this method might not be as accurate). For example, if you are a Cancer or Cancer Rising, begin with Cancer occupying the 1st House then move down the zodiac until you reach Virgo (Cancer-1st House; Leo-2nd House; Virgo-3rd House); Saturn is currently transiting Cancer/Cancer Rising's 3rd House. Scroll down to the 3rd House to find out the themes of that house and how/where in your life this transit might influence.*

Saturn Transit Through Houses*
*Does not account for intercepted charts
or house cusps decanate placements

The 1st House represents the self, our self-image, our being, our potential. Saturn's transit to the this house might bring self-awareness of one's limitations due to obligations, situations forced upon you, or mental/physical challenges. This transit is about rising above whatever is pushing you down and keeping you from the success you desire; having the confidence and belief in your own determination and drive for achievement despite the odds; making lemonade out of lemons.

The 2nd House represents our material possessions, income, value system, and self-worth. On a higher plane, it represents stability, inner peace, and being grounded through our own self-sufficiency. In these times of economic crunch and employment worries, Saturn's transit through the 2nd house reminds us that our true worth does not lie in our possessions and inner peace cannot be achieved through material means. We may be forced learn to live within our financial means, discard the unnecessary, and have our resilience truly tested.

The 3rd House represents all manners of communication, commerce, writing, speaking, thinking, planning, and ideas. Saturn's visit to this house might fill our heads with worry when "what needs to be done" meets with "the details of how to get things resolved". Just remember that Saturn is a slow-moving planet, do not get bogged down with the details. Instead, focus on actively taking steps (small, big, mental, or physical); small steps lead to big efforts. For those with siblings (biological or otherwise), this transit might highlight how relationships and interactions with them can be improved.

The 4th House represents the family (present or recurring issues), the home (buying/selling a house, moving, re-financing, re-decorating, remodeling, etc.), and our private life. On an emotional/personal level, it represents coming to terms with the past or unresolved family issues. A Saturn transit in the 4th might prove truly challenging. Here, we are urged to put our raw emotions/intuitions aside for the sake of reason and what's tangible. Learning to balance and cultivate both during this period is key to the success of a Saturn 4th house transit.

The 5th House represents self-expression, creative projects, love and romance, fun, playfulness, and children. Saturn's transit in the 5th house tugs at the very heart of fun and play vs. responsibilities and work; creative, deliberate self-expression with purpose vs. expressions simply to shock or inflate the ego. A more difficult transit might bring up issues related to childhood or the loss of a child.

The 6th House represents health, busy work, service, comfort in routines, and finding order in the details. This transit might bring about forced lifestyle changes and/or health habits, becoming comfortable with taking on the role of someone who "services" others, or perhaps assertively establishing boundaries with those who are keen to take advantage.

The 7th House represents partnerships (business or otherwise), marriages, committed relationships, and known enemies. Forced or long-awaited and much needed changes to relationships -- equality, cooperations, compromises, agreements, how we relate to others, how they relate to us -- might be issues that come up now. Long-term ties that have been significant in the past may be severed during this transit.

The 8th House is multi-faceted and multi-layered. In the physical realm, the 8th house represents sex and shared resources/finances. In the psychological plane, it represents power struggles within our own psychological makeup and our ability to embrace the "darker" version of our self without it overpowering us. On a spiritual level, it represents "death and rebirth", transformation, regeneration -- the need for something to "die" in order for a "rebirth" to occur -- as in a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. Transits to the 8th house are generally the most difficult but are also the most powerful.

The 9th House represents personal growth (spiritual or otherwise) through higher education, experience, travel, and cultural influences might be highlighted. The pursuit for continuing education or higher learning and the challenges involved in actively pursuing them might be issues that surface during this transit. The 9th house also represents publishing so, if you've authored a novel, non-fiction, or poetry and have been dreaming of being published, allow this transit to give that dream the necessary push despite any limitations that may be imposed upon you.

The 10th House represents professional pursuits, long-term goals, and public reputation. Strides and focus on one's career and long-term goals are highlighted now. Interactions with superiors or those with authority may be challenged now. The need to establish or re-established public reputation might also be highlighted now.

The 11th House represents friendships and associations; our personal view of world, its state, and its varied societies; humanity as a whole and each of our place in it, as well as our collaborative responsibility to it. Existing friendships undergo changes that strengthen bonds. Friendships may also end. New friendships created. Becoming aware of global limitations and challenges may give a restructuring in belief systems or responsibilities to a greater society.

The 12th House, like the 8th house, is also multi-faceted and multi-layered. It is the house of the subconscious, solitude, spiritual consciousness, secrets (ours and those kept from us), hidden enemies, and represents institutions like hospitals and prisons. A Saturn transit through the 12th house requires a period of "aloneness" in order to "recharge" and sort through issues being presented subconsciously and psychologically. The most effective way to process a transit through this house is surrender ... give in to the much needed spiritual healing offered (despite the lack of tangible proof or logic) and clarity will follow.
