Transiting Venus in Natal Houses

In Roman mythology, Venus is the goddess of love. In astrology, Venus represents our relationships (all types -- intimate, platonic, familial, and with the self), our material wealth, our value systems, our self-worth, our capacity to see beauty in the world, and our desires. She travels very close to the Sun (second only to Mercury) and is never more than two signs away from the Sun. Venus retrogrades every eighteen months.

How is transiting Venus influencing your birth chart? Look to the natal house/s ruled by Taurus and Libra (both zodiac signs are ruled by the planet Venus) as well as the zodiac sign Venus is currently transiting to find out how transiting Venus may influence your chart. Match the signs with the house cusps on your birth chart. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the zodiac signs Taurus, Libra, and sign Venus is currently transiting on your birth chart.

If you don't have your birth chart, you may use your Sun sign and/or your Rising/Ascendant sign, if you know it.

For example, if you are a Pisces-Sun or Pisces-Rising and Venus is in Taurus. Begin with Pisces occupying the first house then move down the zodiac until you reach Gemini (Pisces-1st house; Aries-2nd House; Taurus-3rd House); Venus in Taurus falls in Pisces-Sun/Pisces-Rising's third house. Scroll down to the Third House to find out the themes of that house and how/where in your life this transit might influence.* Follow the same steps to match the house ruled by Libra and the current zodiac sign Venus is transiting.

Alternatively, you may cast your own birth chart for use as reference -- birth date, time, and place required. Or request a quote for a paid personalized reading. (both links open a new window)

What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. The style/manner they will use get that job done is defined by the zodiac sign they occupy. Where in our life the job gets done is determined by the house the planet occupies/transits. So, when Mars (aggression) is in Aries (bold), he is more assertive than when he is in Cancer (sensitive). When traveling through the 10th house (professional life), he may bring his confidence and motivation in matters relating to our career. While in the 11th house (friendships), we may be more inclined to having our social calendar packed with activities. Having the foresight for what may be coming up or receiving confirmation on what may be happening now are ways astrology can be beneficial ... as above, so below.

Transiting Venus in Houses*
*Does not account for intercepted birth charts
or house cusps decanate designation

Transiting Venus in the First House ~ Venus' transit in the first house increases self-confidence, heightens self-awareness, gives emphasis on beauty (both physical and aesthetic) that surrounds our life, and offers opportunities for success in both business and social arenas. The first house represents the self, our self-image, our being, our potential. This is a great period to reinvent yourself with a new look -- buy a new outfit or two, try out a new 'do, step it up with a new pair of shoes.

Transiting Venus in the Second House ~ Venus is at home in the second house which represents our material possessions, income, value system, and self-worth. Finances, income, property value, or buying home furnishings may dominate our desires now. We may also face some issues regarding what we value in life or how we value our "self". What is it that's worthy of our love, devotion, and caring?

Transiting Venus in the Third House
~ Thinking about love? Writing about love? Talking about love? Stuck with thoughts of love. The third house represents communication, commerce, writing, speaking, thinking, planning, and ideas. For those with siblings (biological or otherwise), this period is favorable for renewing relationships and interactions with them. Venus' transit in the third house encourages social interaction, finding pleasure in mental stimulation, and enjoyment in sharing ideas. Be a social butterfly this period. Learning can be fun. Even in the more introverted water signs, Venus transiting the third house still supports a more outgoing and sociable personality.

Transiting Venus in the Fourth House
~ Venus visiting the fourth house brings up issues involving our relationships with family, beautifying the home (buying/selling a house, moving, re-financing, re-decorating, remodeling, etc.), or our private life (the need for quality time and pampering the self). Call up your mom and chat her up a bit. Book that spa appointment. Stop at a salon for a mani-pedi. Take the family camping this weekend. Have movie night at home with the kids.

Transiting Venus in the Fifth House
~ The love planet pays a visit to the love and romance house. Love fills the air; and oh, the drama that comes with it. The need for self-expression may be so great that a dramatic flair embody our interactions in our love/intimate relationships. The fifth house also governs creative projects, fun, playfulness, and children. Allow this transit to awaken creativity, spark love, boost confidence, and/or bring simple pleasures back into your life.

Transiting Venus in the Sixth House
~ Venus visits the service house. Do we feel like being of service to our loved ones and those in need? Health, busy work, comfort in routines, and finding order in the details are also governed by the sixth house. A Venus transit here might encourage a little overindulging, slacking off from exercise, forgetting to follow healthier health habits, or forgoing them altogether. Find the fun, pleasure, and enjoyment in living a healthy lifestyle, following a balanced diet, and doing exercise that satisfies the body as well as the soul.

Transiting Venus in the Seventh House
~ Venus brings love to the marriage house. Have you lost that lovin' feeling? Well, Venus is more than happy to rekindle the flame. The seventh house also governs all manners of partnerships (including business), committed relationships, and known enemies. Increasing financial ventures with partner/s may be a focus now.

Transiting Venus in the Eighth House
~ The planet of love and money in the house of sex and debt. hmm... The eighth house is multi-faceted and multi-layered. In the physical realm, the eighth house represents sex and shared resources/finances. In the psychological plane, it represents power struggles within our own psychological makeup and our ability to embrace the "darker" version of our self without it overpowering us. On a spiritual level, it represents "death and rebirth", transformation, regeneration -- the need for something to "die" in order for a "rebirth" to occur -- as in a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. Planetary transits to the eighth house are generally the most difficult but are also the most powerful. Allow Venus' transit in this house to transform our sexual relationships, especially if there are sexual hang-ups or lack of confidence in the sexual arena. On the financial end, allow Venus to teach us the value of investing and lowering debt.

Transiting Venus in the Ninth House
~ Falling in love with a dashing someone with a killer accent? Highly attracted to an exotic beauty? Making money through foreign ventures? The ninth house represents travel, publishing, and personal growth (spiritual or otherwise) through higher education and cultural experiences. Venus' transit here encourages travel so, go on that vacation you've been putting off and learn from the natives :) You might just find your own personal travel guide that shares with you more than the scenery and history.

Transiting Venus in the Tenth House
~ An office romance? hmm... tread carefully. The tenth house represents our professional pursuits, long-term goals, and our public reputation. Venus' transit here gives a boost in self-confidence, increased favor with superiors/colleagues/peers, and a general good feeling about our future and the achievement of our goals.

Transiting Venus in the Eleventh House
~ Friends with benefits? Love blossoming out of a friendships? The eleventh house represents our friendships and associations, as well as our awareness of societal/global issues and our individual responsibility to it. This is a great period be seen, be heard, and be out at social or business gatherings. Meet many people. Build your networking/contacts list. Make new friends. Get re-acquainted with old ones. It's a celestial license to party :)

Transiting Venus in the Twelfth House
~ Solitude and aloneness without the loneliness. Spending quality time with the self. Learning to give the love and attention the self requires. Sacrificial love. The twelfth house poses a challenging transit for it is also multi-faceted and multi-layered, like the eighth house. This house governs our subconscious, solitude, spiritual consciousness, secrets (ours and those kept from us), hidden enemies, and represents institutions like hospitals and prisons. Any planetary transit through the twelfth house might require a period of "aloneness" in order to "recharge" and sort through issues being presented subconsciously and psychologically. Venus, specifically, visiting the twelfth house might highlight issues of love and the sacrifices we willingly give for its sake.
