Venus in Sagittarius ~ January 7 to February 3, 2011

Kristin Braun

Venus transits Sagittarius from January 7 to February 3. Another fantastic energy to start off the year with. A few days ago were the New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Capricorn and the conjunction between Jupiter and Uranus. Their celestial energies linger still as Venus changes signs.

I love Sagittarian energy! I think my Aries-Moon and Leo-Venus, who are loosely trined, revel in it and excitedly await when transiting Venus trines them both to form a momentary grand trine :) Venus in Sagittarius is fun, bright, spontaneous, and gleeful! So, what if Sagittarius-Venus can be foolhardy, wasteful, and overly optimistic. It was fun, while it was fun. Know what I'm sayin'? It is truly the journey and not just the destination for Venus in Sagittarius. In love, Sagittarius-Venus conjures up glamorized illusions of romantic connections, where the chase is just as exciting (perhaps more) than the actual relationship.

Venus represents more than love and relationships, however; she also governs our material, personal, and aesthetic values. In the sign of the archer, Venus is grand. Her gestures are generous and optimism boundless. Our spirituality and capacity for personal growth are highlighted. Meeting and learning from others of a different culture from our own is also a theme of Venus in Sagittarius.

Also happening on the day Venus enters Sagittarius, the Capricorn-Sun squares Libra-Saturn. We also remain under the umbrella of Jupiter conjunct Uranus energy that promises bigger, better, faster, more, happier ... well, you get the picture. Uranus' energy can be abrupt with that "at any and all cost" kind of feel behind it, which can sometimes be decided/acted upon without much foresight or, even still, occur outside of one's own volition and one is left to react to the situation. So, the square between the Sun and Saturn on this day could have a grounding affect, even if the sense of pragmatism or conservatism is a forced one. The Sun-Saturn link remains influential for a few more days after, while the Jupiter-Uranus energy lingers on longer ... though diminishing as weeks past.

While Venus is in Sagittarius, she will make connections with the following celestial bodies on (all dates reflect North America Pacific time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):

  • January 23 ~ Venus sextile Saturn. In Libra, Saturn highlights our committed partnerships. Venus gets a dose of reality. We see our relationships for the entanglements that they represent, but we don't seem to care. As much as the idealize definition of love or what being in love means, this true and real understanding of what love entails is refreshing and welcome.
  • February 1 to 3 ~ Venus sextile Chiron & Neptune; and square Uranus. A few days promising unexpected changes and hopefulness within our relationships, our financial outlook, and in redefining our personal values. Elsewhere in the sky, the New Moon in Aquarius (also this year's Chinese New Year) occurs on February 2nd, which is also when Mercury sextiles Uranus. Communication, interaction, compassion, breaking out of the norm, coming to terms, humanitarian efforts, plus understanding our place within our community and beyond are some of what's highlighted by the combination of these celestial alignments.

What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. The style/manner they will use get that job done is defined by the zodiac sign they occupy. Where in our life the job gets done is determined by the house the planet occupies/transits. So, when Mars (aggression) is in Aries (bold), he is more assertive than when he is in Cancer (sensitive). When traveling through the 10th house (professional life), he may bring his confidence and motivation in matters relating to our career. While in the 11th house (friendships), we may be more inclined to having our social calendar packed with activities. Having the foresight for what may be coming up or receiving confirmation on what may be happening now are ways astrology can be beneficial ... as above, so below.

    Mercury Direct ~ December 29/30, 2010

    Mercury by Francesco Righetti

Mercury has been retrograde since December 10. At that time, he was transiting transiting the early degrees of Capricorn. But more recently on December 18, he returned to Sagittarius where he remains until January 13, 2011. Mercury represents how we think, talk, interact and react; and also governs transportation, commerce and trade. Now as we close out the year, Mercury stations to begin moving direct again on December 29 at 11:21 p.m. PST / December 30 at 2:21 a.m. EST.

The 3 days approaching and after Mercury's station days (December 29 & 30) may result in continued delays, frustration, miscommunication, misunderstanding, etc. So, make allowances for these things. Opt for more tolerance. Give someone the benefit of a doubt, especially if events/issues arising presently may be out of character for them. Leave extra early for appointments. Reread important documents/agreements and ask yourself questions to ensure you understand every point or line item within the document. Preparation is key; and in situations where there's no time to prepare, then being more understanding will go a long way in interactions, as well as maintaining one's personal inner peace. Mars (aggression/assertion) and Saturn (stern/disciplinarian) are also at odds during the last days in December and could very add fuel whatever challenges Mercury may already be going through as he gets acclimated to his change of direction and speed.

Until approximately January 16, we may be reliving much of might have occurred as far back as late November, while Mercury revisits 19 degrees of Sagittarius up to 6 degrees of Capricorn. Obstacles removed. Misunderstandings clarified and relationships mended/mending. No more delays. Things, slowly but surely, starting to come together. Opportunities arising when none could be found just weeks prior. However the first few weeks of the new year might play out in your life, this is a period where you can take control of your thoughts and how you choose to communicate what's on your mind or how you interact with others. Although there may seem many things in your world now that are beyond your control, you always have the ability of what you thoughts you feed your mind and what attitude you choose to express yourself with. And that more of a difference than you might realize :)

With a New Moon Solar Eclipse occurring just days after we ring in the new year, events/situations in each of our personal world may seem to be speeding up, especially since we're coming out of the lull of Mercury's retrograde cycle. This eclipsed new moon also happens on the same day Jupiter and Uranus perfect their conjunction (blending of energies). Try to keep your mind and concentration focused on your objectives. It's easy to get swept away with what may be happening around you, and perhaps, even within your inner sanctum ... an impatience, the need to fulfill something right now or an overoptimism/overestimation of your actual reality. It's important to realize that success in achieving goals (may they be big or small, personal or professional) will require a solid plan with decisive and determined steps. Mars in Capricorn should help with keeping our actions conservative for in pragmatic Capricorn, Mars understands that rushing in or acting/deciding because there may be a fear of loss (loss of time, opportunity or faith, etc.) might end up giving you more work than necessary or taking a longer route instead of a more direct one or result in mistakes that could have been avoided.

Those with natal planets or house angles around 19 degrees of mutable signs may experience the frustration of Mercury's station days more strongly than others. Unsure if you have any natal planets/house angles around 19 degrees of mutable signs or where 19 degrees of Sagittarius to 6 degrees of Capricorn falls in your birth chart, cast your own birth chart to find out -- birth date, time, and place required.

    Mercury Revisits Sagittarius ~ Dec. 18, 2010-Jan. 13, 2011

Sagittarius oil painting by Andre Dluhos

Mercury remains retrograde until November 29/30 and from December 18 to January 13, he revisits Sagittarius. He began his retrograde cycle on December 10 while in Capricorn.

Within the first few days (Dec. 19-21; +/-2 days of influence) that Mercury is back in Sagittarius, he links up with the Sun (conscious will/potential), gets friendly with Chiron (healing/release) and Neptune (insight/hope), while challenging Uranus (awakening/radical change) and Jupiter (ideals/opportunities). It's a promising few days to make amends, where necessary; gain greater understanding on a persisting issue; become enlightened to something that might have previously unclear or burdensome; come to terms about a situation that may have been weighing heavily on you; or any number of things that requires the process awareness, acceptance, release/healing, and moving forward.

From December 18 to 30, Mercury retraces his steps beginning at 29 degrees and back to 19 degrees of Sagittarius; then from December 31 to January 13, upon moving direct once more, Mercury goes back over these same degrees for a third and final time. What could possibly mean? How might we make use of this repetitive pass over the same areas in our individual astrological houses?

Let's think back to the first time Mercury visited 19 to 29 degrees of Sagittarius this year. That period was around November 22 to 30. Were there any events or issues then that remain unresolved? Were ideas formed that never made it to the planning or launch stage? Were there thoughts that didn't find a voice or an audience to would listen to them? If not, no biggie. If there were, however, then this upcoming period when Mercury returns to Sagittarius from December 18 to January 13 can be a time when you pick up where you might have left things off. Perhaps, it's time for forgiveness -- not just of others, but also of the self. Maybe, a solution that wasn't available then is now an option to consider. Or come to terms with something that cannot be changed or remedied and exert focus toward an alternative avenue. Had an idea, then and still passionate about it now? Why not think things over and develop that idea into something more? Mercury's re-entrance in Capricorn next month (January 13 to February 3) would be an ideal time to concretize plans or actually make those ideas a reality.

Maybe we don't even have to go back as far as November. In the days approaching December 10 (Mercury's station day) misunderstandings, miscommunication, disagreements, broken promises, or disappointments may have occurred that may still remain a sensitive topic/issue. In Capricorn, Mercury can be headstrong, unyielding, and righteous. However, Sagittarian energy is more tolerant, understanding, and open to discussion.

In general, Mercury's return to Sagittarius is an an ideal time to think big, have faith, be optimistic, be reminded of your ideals/dreams, and stimulate the mind by entertaining curiosities, especially when interacting with others. Sagittarius is the sign of expansion ... so expand -- your horizons, your perception, your dreams, your creativity, your world. Create your own opportunities. Flip a negative experience into something that positively impacts your or another's life. Envision the larger picture, even while still managing the finer points of a situation, an event, an object, or your dealings with another. In its purest, most authentic form, Sagittarius is the sign of the sage. So, exercise some of that wisdom :)

As Mercury nears his exit from Sagittarius (Jan. 10 & 11; +/-2 days for influence), he once again aligns with Chiron, Neptune, Uranus and Jupiter in the exact same manner. The main difference, being, that Mercury will be moving direct during this time. We are given another chance to make whatever changes we need to make, that helps us 'lighten our load' as we look forward to getting our new year started!

For me, as a Virgo-rising, the first few days of Mercury's transit in Sagittarius falls in my natal 4th house (family/home/private life) and then proceeds to my natal 3rd house (thought/communication/siblings); and as a Cancer-Sun, in my solar 6th house (work/health/service). Whether or not there's family drama to deal with, I can set my focus toward work and being productive with planning for 2011; continuing to regularly practice reiki and manage my health/stress levels; and being mindful of my physical/emotional/spiritual/mental needs for quality alone time.

How might Mercury's return to Sagittarius influence you? Look to the natal house/s ruled by Sagittarius. Match the sign and degrees with the house cusps on your birth chart. Mercury Retrograde ~ Dec. 10 to 29/30, 2010

    Mercury

Oh dear. Mercury retrogrades this month and right smack in the middle of holiday shopping! Keep receipts. Understand return/exchange policies thoroughly, especially for those expensive gifts. Include gift receipts when wrapping presents. Okay, enough of that :)

Mercury stations at 4:04 a.m. PST / 7:04 a.m. EST on December 10 to begin retrograde motion, which ends on December 29 at 11:21 p.m. PST / December 30 at 2:21 a.m. EST. The complete retrograde cycle, including the shadow period is November 22 to January 18, 2011. Mercury retraces his steps from 6 degrees of Capricorn, all the way back to 19 degrees of Sagittarius. His revisits Sagittarius starting December 18, then Mercury re-enters Capricorn on January 13, 2011 to stay until February 3.

Those with natal planets/house angles around 6 degrees of cardinal signs may especially feel the impact of Mercury's station (+/-3 days of December 10). Make huge allowances for delays or possible miscommunication.

Mercury represents our thought process, communication, transportation, commerce, and electronics/technology. Capricorn represents structure and foundation. In Capricorn, Mercury is willful and persistent, goal-oriented and a hard worker. Mercury retrograde in Capricorn affects governments and long-standing institutions; but on a personal level, our foundation may also be called to question. How we've done things, what we've believed in, and what have been our motivations may need to be reviewed and re-established or redefined. Mercury's return to Sagittarius may signal reflection upon our ideals/goals, since Mercury in Sagittarius is typically a visionary with big dreams. As the year nears its end, how has it fared when compared to our aspirations at the start of the year? What have we learned? How have we grown? What has remained stagnant? What do we hope for in the coming year? Our personal goals may change or shift to a different direction during the course of Mercury's retrograde cycle in Capricorn and Sagittarius.

    As mentioned on previous posts:

Following the standard with any retrograde planet, this Mercury retrograde period is a time for the prefix "re" -- reflect, rethink, re-plan, review, retool, reorganize, redefine, re-examine, rewrite, reread, repair. So reassess, as necessary and as much as you want, but avoid starting new projects, signing any contracts, or entering into any major agreements or commitments. It's easy to overlook details or neglect to include information pertinent to the terms. A change of mind is also common. If you must enter into an agreement during the retrograde period, it is important to re-read all fine print, have another set of eyes go over it, and get all your questions answered before completing the transaction.

This period does not need to be daunting and feared or cause you to suspend living your life in any way. Simply make allowances and/or preemptive actions to minimize the unavoidable retrograde effects. Do not underestimate the frustration, inconvenience, and havoc a Mercury retrograde can produce, however.

Mercury rules mental processes, communication, commerce, trade and affects all of these plus travel and electronics. Allow for delays, especially on the station days
[which, for this current period, are December 10 & December 29/30]. Expect miscommunication so, ensure that all details are understood. Ask detailed questions to prevent misunderstandings. Wait until the retrograde period is over before buying a new computer, mp3 player, cell phone, or any other electronic items. If this is unavoidable, make sure the return/exchange/refund policy coverage is extensive enough that the purchased item can be returned/exchanged should it require repair or replacement later. Consider buying the extra warranty offered, if the item is a costly one.

The shadow period began on November 22. Make note of events or issues beginning around that date. They may resurface around next month -- later in the month or early in the new year. Perhaps, to find resolutions for unresolved issues or to revisit situations simply for them to be reflected upon.

What astrological house/s will Mercury's retrograde motion revisit? Look to the Capricorn and Sagittarius-ruled house/s in your birth chart. Match the signs AND degrees on your birth chart. Use the list of zodiac signs below to identify the Capricorn and Sagittarius zodiac signs on your birth chart then click here to read a brief explanation.

New Moon in Sagittarius ~ December 5, 2010

    Sagittarius. Image source unknown.

On December 5th, the New Moon in Sagittarius is upon us. New Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Sagittarius qualities (idealistic, optimistic, good-humored, opportunistic, intelligent) and 9th house themes (personal growth, spirituality, travel, higher education).

Sagittarius is natively ruled by Jupiter, who is currently in compassionate Pisces and in a conjunction (blending energies) with Uranus (awakening/radical change); their conjunction grows stronger and perfects on January 4, 2011, the same day as the New Moon Eclipse in Capricorn. This conjunction between Jupiter and Uranus encourages us to delve deep within the part of us that we don't normally take enough time to tap into. By seeking deep within, we enable ourselves to access and become aware of hidden motivations/drives/desires, which help in giving us a more complete picture of what we may want or hope for in this life...right now. Why am I talking about this conjunction? Because this energy between Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces surrounds this Sagittarius-New Moon, and we're able to make use of it if so choose it.

In Sagittarius, the Moon is expansive as she seeks to satisfy her thirst for knowledge and truth. The Moon is visionary and optimistic in Sagittarius. The Sagittarius-New Moon (blending of heart & soul) sextile Saturn (reality). As 2010 comes to an end, we may be taking stock (Saturn) of what the year has been like for us -- our successes, failures, challenges, lucky breaks; where we stand in our relationship/s, job/s, finances, etc. A dose of reality from Saturn, mixed in with Sagittarian optimism, may be just what we need as we close our year out and look toward the new year.

Elsewhere in the sky, Mercury (thought) and Pluto (elimination) in also in a conjunction, giving us a penetrating mind with focus and the ability to cut through the fog of confusion or haze of denial and get at the core of truth, no matter how harsh or unbelievable it may seem. Use the knowledge gained toward something productive.

This new moon, on December 5, occurs at 14 degrees of Sagittarius at 9:36 a.m. PST / 12:36 p.m. EST. Those born within 3 days of June 4 or December 5; or have planets/house angles around 14 degrees of mutable signs may feel the effects of this new moon stronger than others.

Also happening on the same day as the Sagittarius-New Moon, Uranus, who has been retrograde since July 5th, will station direct at 5:50 p.m. PST / 8:50 p.m. EST.

For me, this new moon forms a fire grand trine with my Aries-Moon/Chiron (heart/inner drives and healing/release, respectively) and Venus (relationships/finances). As a Virgo-rising, this New Moon falls in my natal 3rd house of thought, communication and siblings, even though Sagittarius governs my natal 4th house; and as a Cancer-Sun, in my solar 6th house of work, health and routines. A new or improved way of thinking and communicating is always a welcome change. After all, everything is seeded at the thought level so, I'm always up for brighter ways of thinking and talking. As far as 6th house issues are concerned, since my move back to San Francisco late July, I'm still trying to establish a new daily/weekly work and life 'routine' ... I seem to have more distraction here with family and long time friends. Fun distractions, but distractions nonetheless :)

Sun in Sagittarius ~ Nov. 22 to Dec. 21, 2010

    Orsay Archer by Kathryn Gordon

Bright. Expansive. Far-sighted. Idealistic. Opportunistic. Jolly. The Sun comes out from the deep waters of Scorpio to join Mercury (thought) and Mars (action) in transiting the sign of the archer, Sagittarius, from November 22 until December 21.

The Sun represents the self we present to the external world, our vital life force, potential, ambitions, intentions, and unrealized/untapped inherent talents/skills. While the Sun in Scorpio may have been intense, careful, methodical, and concerned with longevity, in Sagittarius, the Sun is in good spirits, adventurous, open-minded, and opportunistic with big, bold ideas!

At best, the Sun in Sagittarius is lucky, wise, curious, friendly, popular, and just. At worst, non-committal, careless, and gives empty promises. Life is in the living, experiencing and growing. It's the journey, not just the destination.

Until December 7th, the Sun has Mars' energy to aid him in Sagittarius. Mars in Sagittarius is driven to act fueled by our ideals, and decisions are motivated by the idea of growth/development. Bigger. Better. Faster. Newer. Ideal. Mercury is also in Sagittarius until November 30, will retrograde (be more introspective/reflective) on December 10 and return to Sagittarius from December 18 until January 14 of the new year. This extended stay is wonderful news for Sagittarius-Suns and Risings, especially for those Sagittarians born December 11 or later, especially with Mercury linking to Uranus and Neptune during the December 21st Lunar Eclipse (more on this later). Mercury in Sagittarius is a visionary, dreams big and is good-humored. Dreams. Aspirations. Experiences. Interactions.

While the Sun is in Sagittarius, dare to dream a little ... or a lot. Allow Sagittarian ideals to stir excitement within yourself. Let yourself be okay with being unsatisfied with simply existing and living in automatic mode. Have the courage to seek out living a passionate life, where your days are filled with people and activities that make you feel like your life is fulfilling instead of just full. Entertaining such thoughts won't mean you'll be dropping everything irresponsibly for the sake what could be. It simply helps widen your horizons and perhaps enlighten you to what you truly need or want out of life, at this juncture in your life. There's no harm in dreaming :)

The Sun enters Sagittarius on November 22 at 2:17 a.m. PST / 5:15 a.m. EST and will stay through December 21. While in Sagittarius, the Sun will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Pacific time zone; allow +/-2 days for life span of influence):

    • December 5 ~ New Moon in Sagittarius at 9:36 a.m. PST / 12:36 p.m. EST.
    • December 7 ~ Sun sextile Saturn. Time to get in gear and create structure or re-establish foundation or renew commitments. Keen awareness of the the strings attached within our relationships -- may it be intimate, family, friendships, bosses, colleagues, etc. How does this knowledge make you feel?
    • December 10 to 20 ~ Mercury Retrograde.
    • December 16 ~ Sun square Jupiter. Dream BIG. Good moods. Overall trust in universe. Opportunities that seem too good to be true maybe are. Be mindful of not overdoing, overextending yourself, or overestimating situations.
    • December 18 to 19 ~ Sun square Uranus; sextile Neptune & Chiron; and conjunct Mercury-rx. Promising. Hopefulness. Radical changes for the better. Sagittarians celebrating a birthday during this period are likely blessed to carry this hopeful energy with them until their birthday next year. Also today, retrograde-Mercury returns to Sagittarius to stay until mid-January.
    • December 21 ~ Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Gemini at 12:13 a.m. PST / 3:13 a.m. EST, which occurs within the same day as the Sun's entrance into Capricorn at 3:38 p.m. PST / 6:38 p.m. EST. This eclipse starts off the Gemini/Sagittarius set of eclipses occurring through 2013.

What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. Mercury in Sagittarius ~ November 8 to 30, 2010

    Photobucket

Mercury changes signs as he leaves the investigative, stubborn sign of Scorpio and joins Mars in the expansive, optimistic sign of Sagittarius. Mercury's move continues a busy few days of celestial energies shifting, which began with Chiron becoming direct (Nov. 5), followed by the New Moon in Scorpio (Nov. 5/6), then Neptune also stationing direct (Nov. 6/7), and Venus, still retrograde, returning to Libra (Nov. 7).

Mercury transits Sagittarius from November 8 at 3:43 p.m. PST / 6:43 p.m. EST until the end of the month, November 30. Mercury represents the mind, communication, interaction, commerce and trade.

There's a bit of trepidation on Mercury's part when transiting Sagittarius. Mercury is accustomed to details; Sagittarius doesn't much care for it. This can leave Mercury somewhat lost in the vastness of Sagittarian intellect and formless thought process that is sometimes aimless.

In Sagittarius, our minds are built for visionary planning; our thoughts filled with philosophical ideas; our ideas less realistic and more idealistic; and our interaction good-humored, but may lack tact. It's easy to visualize the big picture ... the end game, but drawing up the detailed steps (i.e. from creating an idea into something tangible to its development then its launch, and finally its continued maintenance) can be indeterminate to a Mercury in Sagittarius.

At best, Mercury in Sagittarius is forward-thinking, optimistic, visionary, jovial, opportunistic, intelligent, and curious. At worst, unrealistic, disorganized, overly optimistic, blunt to the point of tactless, and offers up empty promises.

Think BIG while Mercury is in Sagittarius. Entertain your dreams and aspirations. Probe into your what-if scenarios. Who knows? The ideas in your head while Mercury is in Sagittarius might set Mercury transit in Capricorn, which begins on December 7, in motion to plan. This could very well make your ideas more feasible and help get your 2011 off to a more purposeful start.

Celebrating a birthday (solar return) mid or late November? You could benefit from Mercury's alignments with Saturn (mid-November) or Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and Chiron (late November). The energy of Mercury's alignments to these heavenly bodies could carry out through your solar return year -- a helping hand extended to you by the universe :)

While in Sagittarius, Mercury will make connections with the following celestial bodies on (dates reflect North America Pacific time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence)
    • November 17 ~ Mercury sextile Saturn. Saturn's influence help give the Sagittarian-mind a metaphorical ceiling. Saturn's shows the limitations and realities involving situations. Allow Saturn to also give the plans and ideas "legs" to stand on.
    • November 20 ~ Mercury conjunct Mars. Thinking and doing happens almost simultaneously. We act as soon as the words are spoken. No hesitation. Careful that actions are actually well-planned otherwise, results may not yield what's intended. In conversation, especially if we're angered, it's easy to blurt out words without really thinking them through.
    • November 25 ~ Mercury square Jupiter-rx. Think big. Hopefulness. Careful of overoptimism or overestimating situations, though. Think carefully and methodically before committing to anything.
    • November 27 ~ Mercury square Uranus-rx and sextile Neptune & Chiron. May continue the hopefulness from Mercury's square with Jupiter. Opportunities for awareness, healing and enlightenment. A good time to learn seeing the same situation from different perspective or shifting point of view to gain a more complete outlook.

Mars in Sagittarius ~ Oct. 28/29 to Dec. 7, 2010

    Mars via Wallpapers

The sky's the limit! When the planet of action is in the sign of expansion, we're only limited by our mind, our own imagination. Mars is the planet of action, energy, and movement. He represents our physical drives, aggression, passions, anger, self-assertion, confidence, and the motivation behind our efforts.

He's been cruising through the passionate sign of Scorpio, where he is intense and devoted to long term results but can be obsessive and fearful. In Sagittarius, Mars is independent, intelligent, philosophical, good-humored and loves his freedom. Sagittarius is the sign of the sage. In his highest form, his wisdom is molded from his rich life experiences and a strong spiritual sense, in addition to academic intelligence. They are what feeds a Sagittarian's beliefs, philosophies and way of life.

At best, Mars in Sagittarius is open-minded, optimistic, driven and lucky. At worst, careless, tactless, unrealistic and irresponsible. Mars enters Sagittarius on October 28 at 11:48 p.m. PST (October 29 at 2:48 p.m. EST) and will stay through to December 7.

During Mars' transit in Sagittarius, we're reminded to have a bit of faith, be a little braver, take a bit of chance ... after all, life is in the doing, right? What's important to remember is that whatever actions we take must also have our complete and utter commitment to see through to the end. This way, we aren't just acting on impulse or making decisions without forethought. This is also a great way to put ourselves and our goals in an ideal position for when Mars leaves Sagittarius in December to transit Capricorn, where our work can reap rewards or be more solidified.

Those with children or are around children can also make best use of Mars' transit in Sagittarius by taking on the role of a teacher, a big brother or big sister. Spend some quality time interacting with them. If weather permits, sports outdoors is a great way to use up Mars' Sagittarian energy.

While in Sagittarius, Mars will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect North America Pacific time zone; allow +/-2 days for life span of influence):

    • November 14 & 15 ~ Mars sextile Saturn. Establishing foundation with determined steps. Decisions based on logic and reason, carried out with intent. Solid actions, creating solid structures.
    • November 20 ~ Mercury conjunct Mars. Consider it done. What fills the mind may also be what we act upon. Careful not to overshoot or overestimate results. Ensure decisions and actions are well thought out.
    • November 29 ~ Mars square Jupiter-rx. Overoptimism. Overshooting the mark. Luck. Excessiveness. Overdoing things.
    • December 2 & 3 ~ Mars sextile Neptune-rx & Chiron-rx; square Uranus-rx. Chance for healing, whether it's the self or helping others. Release. Let go. Have faith. Surprises. Expect the unexpected. Being a teacher.

Full Moon in Sagittarius ~ May 27, 2010

The Moon grows full in Sagittarius on the same day a major shift in the heavens occur with Uranus' entrance in Aries, a sign he has not occupied since the mid-1930s. Those celebrating their birthday on May 27 or 28 are sure to have an exciting year ahead.

Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what may have been initiated during the previous New Moon in Taurus, which urged us take a look at what we value in life, understand how we define material "security" and improve how we manage our finances, if necessary. This Full Moon in Sagittarius encourages us to expand -- our minds, our vision, our faith, our perception.

The Sagittarius-Moon (heart) opposes the Gemini-Sun (soul) and makes no other alignments with any other celestial bodies. Elsewhere in the sky, however, we remain under the umbrella of the Saturn-Uranus opposition, just as Jupiter and Uranus grow closer to their blending of energies. The heart wants what the heart wants; the soul must accomplish what it must; neither has to explain the "why" to the other. But when what the heart wants opposes what the soul wills, it's a tug of war that gets us nowhere. Hence, the full moon seeks harmony between what the heart and soul wishes. There is a compromise, a common ground, a balance. Once there is balance, we are able to dream big and be optimistic (Jupiter and Uranus) while also grounded by acknowledging the realities of our situation and being open to seeking unconventional ways to resolve issues (Saturn and Uranus).

The full moon occurs on May 27 at 7 degrees of Sagittarius at 7:07 p.m. EDT (North America) and ushers in a succession of big celestial energy shifts. A few hours after the Full Moon, Uranus enters Aries at 9:44 p.m. Then, a few days later on the 30th, Saturn stations for direct movement. The next day, on the 31st, Neptune begins her retrograde cycle. What a fitting Full Moon in the expansive sign of Sagittarius symbolizing endings one phase to welcome in another.

For me, as a Virgo-rising, this Full Moon falls in my natal 3rd house of thought & communication with Sagittarius governing my natal 4th house of family & the past and irritates my Sun (self), aggravates my North Node (life path) and harmonizes with my Uranus (unconventionality). All that really means is that I need to get out of my own way (my Sun) -- shift my perspective (my 3rd house); think outside the box (Uranus); accept that what I must do may not necessarily be what I want to do (my North Node) but in letting go of preconceived notions tied to the past (my 4th house), I open myself to more possibilities that are beyond what my mind could imagine now (Sagittarius-full moon). If I've done the work during the New Moon phase and determined that which I truly value in life, I should be able to purge what's in excess of that and gain balance between the Moon and the Sun.

How will this full moon influence your birth chart? Match the sign and degree to determine what house this full moon falls in. New Moon in Sagittarius ~ December 16, 2009

    Bookmark and Share

Illustration credit and copyright to Steel EyesNew Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Sagittarian qualities (idealistic, optimistic, good-humored, opportunistic, intelligent) and 9th house themes (personal growth, spirituality, travel, higher education).

Sagittarius is natively ruled by Jupiter, who is currently a participant in a rare and promising Triple Conjunction. In Sagittarius, the Moon is expansive as she seeks to satisfy her thirst for knowledge and truth. The Moon is visionary and optimistic in Sagittarius.

The Sagittarius-New Moon (heart & soul)sextiles the Triple Conjunction (awareness, healing, moving forward, opportunities) and squares Uranus (radical change). We are urged to expand our horizons by seeing beyond the tangible or what's proven and having faith in the process of personal growth as we search for our own truths.

Elsewhere in the sky, Saturn and Pluto remain tightly linked in a challenging square, enabling us to get to the source of issues, have the power to purge what must be eliminated, and the resolve to re-establish a new foundation or adopt a new belief system.

This new moon occurs on December 16 at 7:02 a.m. (EST) at 25 degrees of Sagittarius. Those born within 3 days of December 16 or June 15; or have natal planets/house angles on or around 25 degrees of mutable signs may feel the effects of this new moon stronger than most.

For me, this New Moon squares my Pluto, Ascendant, and Descendant; opposes my Mercury and Midheaven; conjuncts IC; and falls in my natal 3rd house of thinking, communicating, and as well as relationship with siblings. This New Moon phase should be interesting since I will be home with family for the holidays and this Sag-New Moon touches all my house angles (who I am ~ Ascendant; who I am with another/my shared self ~ Descendant; where I've been ~ IC; and where I'm going ~ Midheaven).

How will this new moon influence your life? Look to the natal house/s this new moon will occupy in your birth chart. Match the sign and degree to the sign on the house cusp/s. Use the list below to identify the Sagittarius zodiac sign then click here to read about the New Moon in Houses.

    Venus in Sagittarius ~ December 1 to 25, 2009

    Bookmark and Share
Image Copyright and Credit to PrelandraThe planet of love in the idealistic, optimistic sign of Sagittarius conjures up glamorized illusions of romantic connections, where the chase is just as exciting (perhaps more) than the actual relationship. *sigh* Or is that just me? :-) On December 1st, Venus enters Sagittarius at 5:06 p.m. (EST), where she will remain until December 25.

Venus represents more than love, however; she also governs our material, personal, and aesthetic values. In the sign of the archer, Venus is grand. Her gestures are generous and optimism boundless. Our spirituality and capacity for personal growth are highlighted. Meeting and learning from others of a different culture from our own is also a theme of Venus in Sagittarius.

Also on the day Venus enters Sagittarius, Uranus changes directions and begins moving forward again, lifting whatever obstacles have been delaying us from making the changes we sorely need. Together with Uranus and the Triple Conjunction all moving forward now, allow this Venus in Sagittarius period to open our eyes to what they may have been closed to before. Embrace personal growth even at the knowledge or understanding that our beliefs have been misguided or are lacking wholeness. Let us be "bigger" than we are so, we can envision beyond what we have been seeing or able to comprehend.

For me, Venus in Sagittarius will transit my natal 4th house of home and family which I find appropriate since I will be visiting my family for an extended stay in December. This will be the first holiday season without my father, who passed in January this year. Since his passing, roles within the family unit have shifted, and I also see my mother and siblings in a different light. It's neither good nor bad, just different, perhaps an alternate view to the same image.

While Venus is in Sagittarius, she will make connections with the following celestial bodies on (all dates reflect Eastern time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):
    • December 4 ~ Venus sextile Saturn. In Libra, Saturn highlights our committed partnerships. Venus gets a dose of reality. We see our relationships for the entanglements that they represent, but we don't seem to care. As much as the idealize definition of love or what being in love means, this true and real understanding of what love entails is refreshing and welcome.
    • December 17 ~ Venus trine Mars. The planet of love harmonizing with the planet of sex. Acting upon what our heart's desires are easier now.
    • December 19 to 21 ~ Venus square Uranus and sextile the Triple Conjunction. A few days promising unexpected changes but hopefulness within our relationships, our financial outlook, and our personal values. Elsewhere in the sky, Jupiter also blends energies with Neptune for a third time this year, bestowing hope and favor even in the darkest of times.
How will this Venus transit influence your birth chart? Look to the natal house/s ruled by Sagittarius. Match the signs with the house cusps on your birth chart. Just in time. The Sun comes out from the deep waters of Scorpio and gives us LIGHT -- Sagittarian light to support what the New Moon in Scorpio on November 16 may have begun within each of us.
