Sun in Cancer ~ June 21 to July 22, 2010

Orange Sun Simmering

woo hoo! The Sun leaves Gemini and enters my Sun sign, Cancer. Joy! The Sun represents our ego, our potential, our conscious will. In Gemini, the Sun is outgoing, chatty, animated and cerebral. In Cancer, the Sun is more reserved, sensitive, somewhat shy and intuitive. The Sun's life-giving warm rays are more focused on the inner workings of the self -- who we are, what we desire, who/what motivates us -- rooted at our hearts and the emotional side of the self.

Most Cancer-Suns initially react from the heart and are not necessarily moved by reason or practicality, especially if their gut feelings urge them otherwise. The cardinal sign of Cancer represents our roots, our family, the past, the home and our emotions. Cancer is sensitive, intuitive and maternal. She is governed by the Moon, who moves approximately one degree every 2.5 hours and changes signs (personalities) every 2.5 days. The Moon's movements may possibly be at the source of why Cancer-Suns are sometimes described as 'moody'.

While the Sun is in Cancer, we're reminded of our roots and to connect/re-connect with family, biological or otherwise. This is also a period ideal for getting in touch with and exploring our intuitive abilities, especially since the first week of the Sun's transit in Cancer, he'll be stimulating the cardinal energies that have recently been activated by Jupiter and Uranus entering Aries and being in a conjunction. This is all contributing to the upcoming Eclipsed Capricorn-Full Moon Grand Cross on June 26, followed by the Eclipsed Cancer-New Moon on July 11, then a challenging square between Jupiter and Pluto on July 25, just a few days before the Cardinal T-square between Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto on July 30 and finally, a Cardinal Grand Cross around August 6. Make sure to keep informed. I'll be posting on the rest of these upcoming celestial events as we get closer to them.

For now, however, the Sun enters Cancer on June 21 at 7:28 a.m. EST and will stay through July 22. On this day, he'll square Uranus (radical change) and Jupiter (opportunities) while trine Chiron-rx (fixing what's broken). Despite whatever obstacles or however improbable our situation may be, there is room for excitement and optimism. I cannot stress enough how important it is to think and speak that which we want to manifest, instead of what we fear or worry over. Wherever our attention is focused on is also where the energy will flow. I am a firm believer that we are co-creators of our own reality. Let's create consciously.

While in Cancer, the Sun will align with the following celestial bodies (all dates reflect EST [NYC] time zone; give +/-2 days for life span of influence):

  • June 21 to 23 ~ Sun square Uranus (21st) & Jupiter (23rd) and trine Chiron-rx (22nd). covered above
  • June 25 ~ Sun oppose Pluto-rx. Oh, I'm quite familiar with this one. Transiting Pluto has been opposed my natal Sun for months and will continue for some time. Uncovering what's hidden. Confronting one's own shadow. Transformative process of facing up to harsh truths/difficult realities followed by a major breakthrough. The key is not to resist change.
  • June 26 ~ Eclipsed Full Moon in Capricorn at 7:30 a.m. EST
  • June 28 ~ Sun conjunct Mercury. The mind agrees with the conscious will. Smooth communication. Easier to find words to thoughts and ideas. Understanding.
  • July 11 ~ Sun sextile Mars and Eclipsed New Moon in Cancer at 3:40 p.m. EST

What significance do planets, signs, and houses have in astrology? Planets have the function, the job to do. The style/manner they will use get that job done is defined by the zodiac sign they occupy. Where in our life the job gets done is determined by the house the planet occupies/transits. So, when Mars (aggression) is in Aries (bold), he is more assertive than when he is in Cancer (sensitive). When traveling through the 10th house (professional life), he may bring his confidence and motivation in matters relating to our career. While in the 11th house (friendships), we may be more inclined to having our social calendar packed with activities. Having the foresight for what may be coming up or receiving confirmation on what may be happening now are ways astrology can be beneficial ... as above, so below.
