Jupiter Square Pluto ~ February 25, 2011

Animal fight via flixya.com

Jupiter (expansion) square (in conflict) Pluto (elimination), the final bout. This week, Jupiter, who has returned to Aries after revisiting Pisces, and Pluto reconnect once more in the form of a square -- a challenging, dynamic energy of conflict in order to find a resolution.

The first time their square perfected was July 24, 2010, then following Jupiter beginning his retrograde cycle, they squared off again on August 2, 2010. During that time, 2010's Cardinal T-Square was in full force. The t-square players were Saturn in Libra, Jupiter/Uranus in Aries, and Pluto in Capricorn as the focal point of this powerful planetary alignment.

It's been some months since their last meet up. And this time around, there is no cardinal t-square in the background, it's just Jupiter and Pluto fighting it out on February 25th. Perhaps issues now are reminiscent to events of that July to August period in 2010. Maybe it's a chance to complete what was begun/introduced back then or takes things to the next level. But it's also just as possible that there's no connection between what's happening in your world now that links to that time.

As written on previous posts,

Jupiter represents good luck, joy, expansion, opportunities, higher education, and personal growth through our interests, experience and spirituality. He also governs publishing, travel, foreigners and exposure to other cultures. At best, Jupiter brings a wealth of knowledge, understanding, growth, opportunities, as well as financial gains. At worst, overindulgent, excessive, wasteful and unable to get past "dreaming" of the possibilities.

Jupiter in Aries is the spark of optimism needed to push through despite mountains to climb. He blesses us with opportunities that will help support our endeavors. It is our job to be aware of doors or windows opening. With Uranus also in Aries for most of Jupiter's transit in Aries, opportunities may not come in the package we expect them to or hope for them to. They may not even come from the sources or people we think they might. We can all benefit from Jupiter by expanding our minds, our expectations, our perceptions to break past whatever metaphorical boundaries limit us from what's truly possible.

Pluto represents rebirth, regeneration, and transformation. He is our compulsions, obsessions, ability for control, and empowerment. Pluto gives us the power to tackle obstacles in life through deeply understanding our situations, which results in our letting go and being transformed in the process. Pluto's process usually brings endings, purging, destruction, complete annihilation of what no longer works before a renewal can occur.

As Pluto transits signs, he moves through our natal and solar houses affecting our lives slowly, subtly but with glaring, remarkable life-altering results. Pluto currently moves through Capricorn, where he is ambitious, pragmatic, and determined. Pluto in Capricorn represents social status, public life, reputation, hierarchies, and established government. Globally, Pluto's transit in Capricorn until 2024 may bring changes in government systems, restructuring of proven but antiquated methods, issues with security, and the like. Expect these issues to be extended to our personal lives -- how we feel about security and what makes us secure; a look at what we do, hold on to, practice, believe in that no longer reflects our current life, our present self, our present drives; establishing or reevaluating of our goals/aspirations and taking steps toward achieving them.

Jupiter square Pluto is an opportunity to challenge what has been the norm/the familiar and improve upon what no longer serves through elimination of the old and adoption of the new. Although their square peaks on the February 25th, the weeks approaching and following this day are also influenced by the energy of their alignment.

Jupiter gives the optimism to fight for ideals/aspirations; Aries gives the courage and strength to push fast and hard; Pluto purges and focuses on putting an end to what no longer serves; Capricorn represents the status quo.

To satisfy objectives, issues surrounding overexertion of power or excessive force may be encountered. There are also deep desires to bring benefits to many and strong motivations to overcome whatever restrictions or limitations are being imposed, as we have witnessed in recent and current world events.

For those of us who find that the impact of this square is a more personal and internal process, going through a complete break down and a breakthrough arising from that struggle/pain could be how this Jupiter-Pluto square is experienced. This could be exhausting, frustrating, and depressing, as Jupiter tends to expand what it comes in contact with. Sometimes, what's blown up bigger is not what's desired but what must first be acknowledged and dealt with. Trust your own personal process, however. Keep the faith. Be mindful of your intentions.

On the day Jupiter and Pluto perfect their square, Pluto also sextiles (opportunistic link) the Sun and Mercury who are blending energies in Pisces. Throwing in a little Piscean energy in the mix could be helpful in giving us a little more hopefulness or faith in our own process. For those attuned to the spiritual world or their intuitive self, this could also be an inspired time where insight can be gained or, perhaps, even an inner calm/peace despite what chaos/problems the tangible world holds.

Although we are all influenced by this Jupiter-Pluto square, in what manner, how much impact and where in each of our lives this energy may manifest depend a lot on how these transiting planets and their alignments are touching our birth charts. In general, however, those with cardinal sun signs or rising signs (especially with Sun or Ascendant between 4 and 10 degrees of cardinal signs) and those with natal planets/house angles within those same degrees in cardinal signs may experience this energy more forceful/powerful/undeniable than most.

Those celebrating a birthday in February, especially the second half of the month, may have this Jupiter-Pluto square energy remain influential for their Solar Return (astrological birthday) year. Make use of it in a way that is productive and fosters growth for your personal year.

For me, my natal Sun, at 5 degrees of Cancer, remains in the umbrella of an opposition from transiting Pluto. Pluto transits my solar 7th house of relationships. Jupiter transits my 10th house of future goals. Both are challenging my Sun, which represents my conscious will, my potential, the ego. As Pluto make transformational changes within my solar 7th house (relationships), how those changes balance out or need to balance with the needs/desires of my Sun (self/potential) will greatly impact my life's direction through how my goals are formed or how I decide to act upon/what to do with whatever aspirations I may have.

How might this Jupiter square Pluto manifest in your world? Look to the natal planets/house planets on or around 7 degrees of cardinal signs? If you don't have your birth chart handy, cast one at alabe.com for use as reference -- birth date, time, and place required.
