Mars breaks away from Taurean energy. In Taurus, Mars is steady, prudent, and reliable which can sometimes be restrictive. Mars is the planet of action, energy, and movement, after all. He represents our physical drives, aggression, passions, anger, self-assertion, confidence, and the motivation behind our efforts.

Mars' move to the sign of Gemini offers him a chance roam more freely. In Gemini, Mars' energies are driven by mental activities and intellectual pursuits. In his rage, he might take up words as his weapon while he fights in a heated debate. His passions rise with mental stimulation. Mars in Gemini is ready to act and take up multiple tasks.

This period is great for getting a lot of things done quickly. All that was decided upon and planned while Mars was in Taurus can now be started or continued and concluded during this period. So, just move down the checklist of your "to do" items and let's get some things accomplished!

One thing to watch out for -- in Gemini, Mars may lack focus. Energies and efforts may be scattered. Projects get started but don't get finished. So, make sure to give Mars in Gemini explicit instructions and specific tasks in order to give the Gemini energy concentration.

For those with their natal Mars in Gemini, you'll have your Mars Return which occurs approximately every two years. This a great time to make movements on future plans or take action on shorter-term goals. Look to the house placement and natal aspects to your natal Mars to get an idea of what may be highlighted/triggered during your Mars Return. Some people find this period ideal for making career-related plans.

This year, Mars transits Gemini beginning on June 20th at 7:50 p.m. PDT / 10:50 p.m. EDT until August 3rd. Upon entering Gemini, Mars will quickly squares Neptune while the Cancer-Sun trines Neptune. These first few days (June 20-23) when both Mercury (thought/communication) and the Sun (conscious will/potential) aligning with Neptune (compassion/spirituality) can be a time when our actions can be inspired and motivated by selfless drives. At worst, this can be a few days of 'escaping' and being out of sync from reality or responsibilities.

Here comes the second of three consecutive eclipses this summer (or whatever season it may be in your part of the globe :) This is also the first Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius in the Gemini-Sagittarius series of eclipses that began December 21, 2010. The most recent eclipse occurred just two weeks before on June 1st with a Solar Eclipse in Gemini.

Here's a little recap of what eclipses represent in astrology.The days, sometimes weeks, approaching to an eclipse create intense and impatient energy. There's a bit of chaos and the feeling/fear of being out of control with what's happening all around, especially in each of our immediate environment and personal lives. This might be because eclipses, in astrology, are accelerators. They speed up events, issues, situations in our personal lives and demand for them to be dealt with. Eclipses are supercharged full and new moons with influence extending up to six months.

The degree of difficulty depends on the readiness of the individual to tackle these challenges, his/her willingness to do the work required, and his/her commitment to the cause/s which is really the self and its growth. The level of influence an eclipse or set of eclipses have also depends on individual birth charts.

That said, let's move on to this month's Full Moon in Sagittarius (at 1:14 p.m. PDT / 4:14 p.m. EDT), which also happens to be a Lunar Eclipse (at 1:12 p.m PDT / 4:12 p.m. EDT). Full Moons signify endings, the culmination of what may been initiated during the previous New Moon in Gemini, which challenged us to 'see' things/situations/events for what they really are and no more turning a blind eye or escaping in wishful thinking, but instead, time to break away from what's been holding us back.

This Eclipsed Sagittarius-Full Moon (heart/inner core), while seeking balance/harmony with the Gemini-Sun (soul/conscious will) and Mercury (mind/communication), comes ever so close to blending energies with the Sagittarius-North Node (life direction). Many of us may find ourselves questioning where we're going or how we may be planning to get to our desired destination and whether this is the best course of action. Others may be realizing what they've been working towards are no longer what they're passionate about or what gives them joy/contentment. There are those who might also find that the choices they've made have brought changes that may be challenging, but also exciting and fulfilling. However this Lunar Eclipse may play out in your world, listen to your heart if it is tugging at you. Also, let's be mindful of improving our internal dialog and external interactions, then shift our perspective to 'see' the bigger picture, so that your choices/actions may reflect your ultimate goal/s.

This Full Moon Eclipse occurs at 25 degrees in Sagittarius. Sagittarians born around December 16 and Geminis born around June 15, along with those who have planets/house angles around 25 degrees of mutable signs may experience this lunar eclipse more powerfully than others.

For me as a Virgo rising (click here for my chart), this eclipsed full moon falls in my natal 3rd house (thought/communication) but is also conjunct my natal 4th house (family/home; where I've been) and seeking balance with issues in my 9th (personal growth/experiences) and 10th (career/future goals; where I'm going) houses. This Sagittarius-Moon, Gemini-Sun, Mercury and North Node stimulate my natal Pluto (endings/transformation) and natal 1st (self/potential)/7th (relationships) houses, too; and forms a cardinal t-square with my natal Pluto and ascendant (1st house) as focal points. Couple this with the existing long term transits in full force with my birth chart; and this summer/rest of year may just be as 'challenging' and full of 'opportunities' for growth as the second half of last year was when my solar return happened alongside the 2010 cardinal t-square/cross & Cancer-Eclipsed New Moon intensity. Whew! I'm tired already :)

Venus leaves her home sign of Taurus to transit Gemini. Venus governs how we relate (to others, to ourselves), what we value in life (people, things, precepts), and how we determine worth (self-worth, material worth, aesthetics).

In Taurus, Venus is stable, comfort-seeking, and driven by material security. In Gemini, Venus is less complicated, requires mental stimulation, has varied interests, and can be spontaneous. Gemini governs thought, ideas, communication, interactions, education and siblings. At best, Venus in Gemini is friendly, social, curious, intelligent, open-minded and lively. At worst, facetious, superficial, duplicitous, indecisive and flighty.

While Venus is in Gemini, there's even more emphasis on communication in our relationships -- personal, intimate, and business; significant, long-term, and casual. Relationships and friendships flourish through conversations -- meaningful, light, or a simple exchange of ideas.

Venus in Gemini is friendly, popular, easy going, uncomplicated, and requires mental stimulation in our social interactions. Mercury zips through the zodiac about every 3 weeks. He has been transiting Taurus, where he is thoughtful, careful, practical, thorough, and persistent. In Gemini, he is social, good-humored, witty, quick-thinking, and curious. At best, intelligent, charming, a great conversationalist, friendly, relaxed, secure and expansive. At worst, unfocused, not serious enough, quick to become disinterested, and can be non-committal.

Mercury governs all manners of mental activity, communication, writing/publishing and short travels. He rules the zodiac signs Gemini and Virgo. The planet Mercury is the fastest moving planet in the zodiac. He represents how we think, how we process information, and how we communicate the information we've processed. He also rules commerce and trade.

Mercury is at home in Gemini -- quick thinking, quick-witted, curious, friendly, and versatile with varied intellectual interests. With my natal Mercury in Gemini, I'm a bit partial to this sign placement for Mercury. Gemini is the first Air sign -- cool, detached, logical, objective. Conversations fluid; ideas flowing; interactions friendly. However, despite Gemini-Mercury's vast curiosity, hunger for learning, and active intellectual pursuits, his knowledge can be superficial and at times fleeting; so make sure to write down any brilliant ideas conceptualized during this period.

Mercury in Gemini encourages us to entertain our curiosities; run with small ideas and see where they take us or what they evolve into; collaborate and brainstorm with others because more minds working together is better than one; meet and greet with new people so we can learn from them; get captivated in engaging conversations; and generally, become a sponge for information gathering. As human beings, we are wired to make connections with others. Even an introvert can find comfort and joy in meaningful contact.

This year, Mercury transits Gemini from June 2 at 1:02 p.m. PDT / 4:02 p.m. EDT to June 16 and quickly squares Neptune as she prepares to retrograde on June 3rd, then he moves to sextile Uranus and Jupiter by June 4th -- making his first few days in Gemini exciting and possibly action-packed! While Mercury visits Gemini, the Sun also transits Gemini until June 20th, and Venus joins them both on June 9th.

New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Gemini ~ June 1, 2011

Has it been a crrraaazzzyyy week (or couple of weeks) for anyone else other than me?! Tense, busy, icky energy. Even my usual mild temperament has been easily riled up these days. Maybe it's transiting Pluto oppose my Sun and square my Uranus, while transiting Uranus also opposes my Uranus -- yes, a great, big bundle of cardinal energy nicely packaged in a grand cross. Nuts!

But enough about me... If any of you have also been experiencing funky energy in your immediate environment, we can probably put some of the blame on the upcoming eclipse. Eclipses intensify new and full moons, giving them an extra kick, a bigger dose of potency, and greater reach/influence. A typical new and full moon have about two weeks of influence, while eclipses can have an impact for as long as six months.

In astrology, eclipses trigger necessary changes to one's journey in life. Because these changes are triggered outside of one's own volition, they are often harsh, sudden, and undeniable. The initial shock evoke sadness, confusion, frustration, anger, worry, and possibly depression. However, it is our reaction past the initial shock that defines how we will allow these eclipses to influence us. Click here for a more detailed explanation of Eclipses in Astrology.

June kicks off the month with a New Moon in Gemini (at 2:03 p.m. PDT / 5:03 p.m. EDT), which also happens to also be a Solar Eclipse (at 2:16 p.m. PDT / 5:16 p.m. EDT). This is the second eclipse in Gemini; the previous one occurred on December 21, 2010 and was a Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse, kicking off the Gemini-Sagittarius series of eclipses that are happening from 2010 to 2013.

New Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Gemini qualities (cerebral, social, connections) and 3rd house themes (information, thought, ideas, communication). Gemini is governed by the planet Mercury, who is currently transiting Taurus and will soon be home in Gemini the following day, on June 2nd.

In Gemini, the Moon is energetic, excitable, gregarious, an extrovert opting for logic over emotions. This Gemini-Eclipsed New Moon (blending of heart & soul) allies with Saturn (old/structure) and Uranus (new/radical change) while challenged by Neptune (imagination/enlightenment), Chiron (wounds/healing) and Pluto (purging/transformation). It's mid-year. How has 2011 been for you so far? How much of it is what might have planned or expected? What of it are complete surprises or interesting turn of events?

With the heart (Moon) and soul (Sun) in agreement, it's time to 'see' things/situations/events for what they really are (Saturn). No more turning a blind eye or escaping behind wishful thinking (Neptune). Enough with just living with the hurt or avoiding what must be done to get through painful experiences (Chiron). It's time to break away (Uranus) from what's been keeping you from the life you envision for yourself. So, get to the root of the problem/issue and purge/eliminate what you must (Pluto) in order to have your much needed renewal (New Moon). The path to a new life or a new version of you may not be an easy one, but I have no doubt it's a rewarding one :)

This new moon occurs at 11 degrees of Gemini. Those born within 3 days of June 1st or December 3rd; or have planets/house angles around 11 degrees of mutable signs may experience the effects of this new moon eclipse stronger than most.

For me, as a Virgo-rising, this Solar Eclipse/New Moon falls in my natal 9th house (personal growth/experiences) and also affects my natal 10th house (career/future goals) since Gemini is the sign that governs that house; and as a Cancer-Sun, in my solar 12th house (subconscious/dreams). At 11 degrees, this eclipsed new moon is sextile both my Venus (relationships/finances) and my Chiron, which add intensity to the cardinal grand cross already happening in my transit chart. Hmm...if only I could hide under a rock until things subside a bit. But, alas, no :)

Sun in Gemini ~ May 21 to June 20, 2011

The Sun represents our external drive, our potential, our conscious will. In Taurus, where the Sun has been for past 4 weeks, he is somewhat cautious, practical, grounded, determined, dependable, and driven by material security. In Gemini, the Sun is social, gregarious, cerebral, intelligent, witty, and driven by intellectual and experiential pursuits. At best, the Sun in Gemini is easygoing, understanding, curious, funny, solutions-oriented. At worst, indecisive, non-committal, shallow, unfocused, duplicitous.

Gemini is the original multi-tasker of the zodiac. They can get at least twice the amount of action items done in less time than most people; and they can't quite sit still. Their minds are just as busy and are often thinking of something completely different from whatever actual conversations they are seemingly engrossed in. Geminis are without a doubt intelligent people, but to keep them interested in friendships and other interpersonal relations, mental stimulation is a MUST. Animated and engaged interactions required. Otherwise, it's easy to 'check out' and move on to the next interesting thing, person, topic, object, whatever :)

The Sun in Gemini reminds us that there is more than one way to do things or get to a destination. There are always other points of view to consider and some may be just as credible or feasible as the existing norm, other ideas in development, our personal opinions, etc. Knowledge can be gained from anywhere -- books, people, ideas; it's all around. Even the simplest of concepts can make an impact. A whisper can evoke a loud response. A chance meeting can evolve into a beautiful friendship. A heated debate can produce enough passion to effect a course of action that ultimately results in a change -- hopefully, for the better. Thoughts are valuable. Exchange of ideas are essential for growth, improvement and change, as well as pleasure.

This year, the Sun begins his transit in Gemini on May 21 at 2:21 a.m. PDT / 5:21 a.m. EDT, where he remains until June 20th. Mercury joins the Sun in Gemini on June 2, and Venus follows suit on June 9.

Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Gemini ~ Dec. 21, 2010

This year, the Sun makes a grand gesture before leaving Sagittarius and entering Capricorn. On December 21st, at 12:13 a.m. PST / 3:13 a.m. EST and while at 29 degrees, the Gemini-Moon waxes to an Eclipsed-Full Moon. This is the first of the Gemini/Sagittarius set of eclipses that will last until 2013. The Sun enters Capricorn on the same day at 3:38 p.m. PST / 6:38 p.m. EST.

Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what may have been initiated during the previous New Moon in Sagittarius which encouraged us to get past seeing where we might have failed or have been disappointed, but instead use what we now know and understand to make plans for the upcoming year. This is the last full moon of 2010, and it is also a lunar eclipse! Per my original post on understanding eclipses:

Gemini governs thought, ideas, communication, interaction, education, and short travel. Sagittarius is Gemini's opposite sign and governs philosophy, religion, spirituality, personal growth through experiences, higher education, and long distance travel. The Gemini-Sagittarius set of eclipses highlights the polarity between Gemini and Sagittarius and finding the balance between the two. At the core, Gemini and Sagittarius focus on the mental process. While Gemini represents logical thinking and knowledge, Sagittarius expands upon what Gemini knows and understands by searching for meaning and a higher purpose. Knowledge alone isn't enough. Wisdom must also be applied.

With the Gemini-Moon opposing the Sagittarius-Sun, the Sun's need to inspire and aspire seeks harmony and balance with the Gemini-Moon's need to apply logic and reason. Just a few hours before the Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse, the Gemini-Moon connects with Neptune (the enlightened one), Chiron (the wounded healer), and Uranus (the awakener). The influence of the Moon's link to these celestial bodies continue to linger and mixes with the energy of the Eclipsed-Full Moon. Elsewhere in the sky, Neptune and Chiron make their own connection, reminiscent of their alliance earlier this year and offer up hope and healing where needed; while retrograde-Mercury (ruler of Gemini) squares (in conflict) Jupiter (ruler of Sagittarius), even their rulers are not playing too nicely with each other. But they are challenging one another to consider that there's more to whatever's going on than meets the eye; perhaps, there are alternatives that haven't been thought of yet; or maybe, opportunities/solutions can be found when least expected.

As previously mentioned on prior posts, including the New Moon in Sagittarius article, Jupiter and Uranus remain very close to each other (within a two-degree orb):their conjunction grows stronger and perfects on January 4, 2011, the same day as the New Moon Eclipse in Capricorn. This conjunction between Jupiter and Uranus encourages us to delve deep within the part of us that we don't normally take enough time to tap into. By seeking deep within, we enable ourselves to access and become aware of hidden motivations/drives/desires, which help in giving us a more complete picture of what we may want or hope for in this life...right now. Why am I talking about this conjunction? Because this energy between Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces surrounds this Eclipsed-Full Moon in Gemini, just as it had the Sagittarius-New Moon, and we're able to make use of it if so choose it.
So, as we close out 2010, let's also close out any thought processes that keeps us blind to truth or to whatever else is out there that can be of use to us/can be of help to us. With the Sun and Moon in zodiac signs that represent the mind; the Moon still affected by her links to Neptune, Chiron and Uranus; Mercury squaring Jupiter; and Jupiter-Uranus collaborating, let's challenge ourselves to quit limiting ourselves by sticking to what we know. Let's be mindful that there are still experiences we've yet to have and these experiences expand our knowledge, foster personal growth and give us greater wisdom. But we can't have these experiences if we are unwilling to step out beyond what we already know and are comfortable with.

This month's New Moon in Gemini occurs on June 12 at 7:15 a.m. EST. New Moons signify rebirth, beginnings, a clean slate, the start of a new cycle. This new moon highlights Gemini qualities (cerebral, social, connections) and 3rd house themes (information, thought, ideas, communication). Gemini is governed by the planet Mercury, who just recently began his transit in Gemini.

In Gemini, the Moon is energetic, excitable, gregarious, an extrovert who opts for logic over emotions. The Gemini-New Moon beautifully linked to imaginative, insightful Neptune-rx to help expand our mind (Gemini), heart (Moon) and soul (Sun). Holy moly! For me, this new moon phase is clearly about rising closer to my potential with regards to professional pursuits and aspirations by exposing what lies within the subconscious to make me more mindful of them. By pushing past my metaphorical 'boundaries', I am able to expand my mind and 'see' the bigger picture so, I can plan accordingly as I work toward achieving my goals. I'm excited!

After an extended stay in steady Taurus, Mercury darts home to Gemini on June 10 at 1:41 a.m. EST (June 9 at 11:41 p.m. PST) and will stay through the 25th. Mercury governs all manners of mental activity, communication, writing/publishing and short travels. He rules the zodiac signs Gemini and Virgo. In Taurus, Mercury is thoughtful, careful, practical, thorough and persistent. In Gemini, he is social, good-humored, witty, quick-thinking and curious. At best, intelligent, charming, a great conversationalist, friendly, relaxed, secure and expansive. At worst, unfocused, not serious enough, quick to become disinterested and can be non-committal.

The Sun breaks away from Taurus' need for security and comfort as he enters Gemini on May 20 at 11:34 p.m. EDT, where he remains until June 21. The Sun represents our external drive, our potential, our conscious will. In Taurus, the Sun is somewhat cautious, practical, grounded, determined, dependable, and driven by material security. In Gemini, the Sun is social, gregarious, cerebral, intelligent, witty, and driven by intellectual and experiential pursuits. At best, the Sun in Gemini is easygoing, understanding, curious, funny, solutions-oriented. At worst, indecisive, non-committal, shallow, unfocused, duplicitous.

Gemini is the original multi-tasker of the zodiac. They can get at least twice the amount of action items done in less time than most people; and they can't quite sit still. Venus governs how we relate (to others, to our selves), what we value in life (people, things, precepts), how we determine our worth (personal and material).

In Taurus, Venus is stable, comfort-seeking and driven by material security. In Gemini, Venus is less complicated, requires mental stimulation, has varied interests and can be spontaneous. Gemini governs thought, ideas, communication, interactions, education and siblings. At best, Venus in Gemini is friendly, social, curious, intelligent, open-minded and lively. At worst, facetious, superficial, duplicitous, indecisive and flighty.

While Venus is in Gemini, there's even more emphasis on communication in our relationships -- personal, intimate or business. True communication is listening (not just hearing) and speaking openly, honestly, sincerely. Full Moon in Gemini ~ December 2, 2009

Full Moon. Image source unknown.Celestial excitement continues as December enters its second day. The Moon waxes and becomes full in Gemini (11 degrees) at 2:30 a.m. (EST) on December 2. Just the day before, Venus entered Sagittarius and Uranus changed directions.

The Gemini-Moon, opposite the Sagittarius-Sun, now urges us to expand our mind and think big, truly communicate by listening as well as talking, and rid our interactions of metaphorical "ceilings" with discussions without preconceived notions or imposed limitations by having expectations, especially with our siblings.

On the day the Full Moon in Gemini occurs, Saturn and Pluto remain tightly connected in a square, while Mercury (the planet governing the sign Gemini) links himself harmoniously with the auspicious Triple Conjunction. As the reality of our situations (Saturn) are forced upon us (square), we unavoidably delve into our own (Pluto) in hopes to find a way out, a solution, an answer, or to muster up the courage to ask for help. With the expansiveness of our mind and thinking outside the box (Full Moon in Gemini and Mercury's alignment to Triple Conjunction), we might just receive the answer we are seeking. But the answer may not come in the package expected. What happens then?

With Saturn and Pluto in the background, what we must do or have to choose may not be what we want to do or choose. Do we then become our own obstacle because we've limited ourselves to solutions that are acceptable to what we desire or what we can logically understand? I challenge each of us, including myself, to bravely act upon what must be done regardless of how difficult it might be. With the Mercury and the Triple Conjunction extending their assistance, we're able to devise a plan on how to make what must be done, happen. Perhaps, the Tarot Affirmation* on the Four of Pentacles - Attachments and Restrictions might help open the mind and welcome new ways of thinking/communicating.

For me, this Full Moon is harmoniously aligned with my Venus (relationships), Chiron (healing), and Moon (heart); and as a Virgo-rising, falls in my natal 9th house while as a Cancer-Sun, in my solar 12th house. It's fitting since I'll be traveling (9th house) to get some much needed chill time (12th house) with my family and life-long friends for three weeks in December! This holiday season marks the first occasion we'll have it without my father, who passed in January. However, we do have a new addition to the family and will celebrate the season with my newly born Libra-niece. Sadness mixed in with joy. Grief blended with healing. As a family and as individuals, we must grieve our own way and heal our own way. Together, however, we have each other's strength and support in sadness and in joy.

This Gemini-Full Moon is the first of two full moons this month. On December 31st, the Blue Moon is a Lunar Eclipse in her home sign, Cancer, and is linked to the Cancer-Capricorn eclipses in July. What an exciting way to ring in the new year! Stay tuned for a post on this eclipsed moon.

Venus Trine Triple Conjunction ~ July 27 to 29, 2009

Venus gives us a treat before leaving Gemini! She fortuitously links herself to the promises of the triple conjunction between Jupiter (ideals/opportunities), Chiron (wounds/healing), and Neptune (dreams/insight), giving our relationships and finances a chance for healing and renewal. Now, isn't that nice of her? and who of us doesn't have a need for that?

Venus represents our relationships (of all types, including that we have with the self), our material worth (as well as our self-worth), and our aesthetics. With the help of Saturn in Virgo, the Sun in Leo, the Moon in Libra [July 27] / Moon in Scorpio [July 28 & 29], Mars in Gemini, and Uranus in Pisces, we are able to stop avoidance and face up to some harsh realities (Saturn in Virgo). Our willfulness (Sun in Leo), objectivity (Moon in Libra), and determination (Moon in Scorpio) give way to our eagerness in finally making movements (Mars in Gemini) that settle these relationship and/or financial issues which may have been lingering for some time. Our way to solving money matters and relationship issues may be through unconventional means (Uranus in Pisces).

While Venus is linked with the triple conjunction, she also forms a challenging alignment with Uranus (radical change), so expect the unexpected ... be open and think outside the box when searching for solutions to common issues. Each situation is original and so might be their answer to repairing them.

We have the blessing and protection of the triple conjunction's long term influence on our side to help us get through the rough patches. So let's get things moving these next few days, while we are still within the new moon phase with the super charged Solar Eclipse in Cancer at our heels; and as the energy is building to a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius [August 5] which encourages improvement at any cost, including those of radical changes. Mars in Gemini will also make his own alignments next month [August 13-18] and hopefully, he will pick up to continue what will have been started during this period.

Although we are all beneficiaries of this celestial alignment between Venus and Jupiter/Chiron/Neptune, those with natal planets/house angles at 24-26 degrees of fixed signs (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio) or air signs (Aquarius, Libra, Gemini) may be influenced more strongly than others.
